Zason Posted September 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2010 So I get the basic themes of each one. However, what are the benefits of picking one over the other? If this is posted somewhere, I apologies. "Z" Link to comment
DAISHI Posted September 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2010 Certain guilds have certain facilities in certain cities. Link to comment
Freyar Posted September 27, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2010 The run to the others is almost nothing though, so I wouldn't worry too much. Link to comment
Emaraya Posted September 27, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2010 Isn't the epic questline the only difference... apart of the guilds there? Link to comment
Xzenivar Posted September 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2010 The beginning of the main questline is different for each city, but eventually they all converge into a single story according to SE. Other than that and where guilds are located, not much difference. Xzen started in Limsa and has spent several days in Gridania lately. Link to comment
Zason Posted September 28, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted September 28, 2010 Thanks. >:+) I was thinking LL personally. "Z" Link to comment
Asytra Posted September 28, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 28, 2010 I do say though that unless you have experienced the introductions for each city in beta, they are all extremely cool and you should check them out on Youtube or an alt if you haven't seen them. Other than the guilds and introductions the cities and the areas themselves vary quite a lot... -Limsa can be a pain to navigate, but once you learn the city it's quite easy to get around. The Armorer's and Blacksmith's guild are located here, which can be a huge bonus. Areas outside the city are pretty easy to navigate. Two of the guilds in the city are for classes not implemented yet (Arcanist and Musketeer) Mining and botany nodes are fairly common outside the city, there is a nice spawn of sheep for leather to the south. -Ul'dah is by far the easiest city to navigate. It is also located roughly in the middle of Gridania and Limsa which has several advantages. There is a good mix of guild here. The area outside the city is by far the easiest to navigate. Mobs such as copper coblyns provide great sources of ore if you don't want to mine, there are lots of mining nods too. -Gridania is easier than Limsa but less so to navigate than Ul'dah. There is also a good mix of guilds here. Areas outside of the city can be a pain to navigate, if feels like you are in a maze and not really "free" to move. I don't mine or do botany here because I find it troublesome to deal with the terrain, it is however a good source for fire crystals if you hunt marmots and fireflies. It can be a pain to get to since airships, caravans, and chocobos aren't in yet. Also, watch out for the anglers! Link to comment
Xzenivar Posted September 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 28, 2010 On the subject of navigating the cities, that'll be a personal matter I think. Limsa is pretty easy for me, whlie Gridania is the most straight forward. Ul'dah just confused me so I try not to hang out there long. I agree with the other assesments, though I'd like to add that Gridania seems to have the most mobs for grinding. Link to comment

Limsa is tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple. Link to comment
Kashemia Posted September 28, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 28, 2010 I always get lost everywhere <.< But yeah, it doesn't really make a huge difference, it's relatively easy to get from one city to the other, and when you've done it once, you can teleport between them. So I say, pick what you feel most like Which ever seem to be more interesting, or fit your character best. That's how I did it. I was originally going to start in Limsa, but Ul'dah was just perfect for Seraj. However, I still spend a good amount of time in Limsa, and I'm hoping to get to Gridania more as well. But yeah, really, it doesn't matter terribly much. Link to comment
Chveya Posted September 28, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 28, 2010 It is, in fact, SO easy to get from one city to another that I'm going to start in Ul'Dah, despite planning for Chveya to be a fisher, because I like that city so much more. For some unknown reason, I love in-game desert cities / places, but I absolutely hate hate hate real deserts. Link to comment
