  1. Since the website changed and its been led off I would like to remind people that this is still possible in the game. Since It got brought up in the game and i've been seeing some stuff happen to others I decided to bump the thread again. Although it is just more of a 'be careful'.
  2. ______ Well the issue with that is (not that I agree with this response) that not every RP session that happens is considered 'open' and that some people are happy to use locations in the game as private spaces just as a type of 'setting placeholder'. For example, the Pearl Lane is really the only area in the game (among one or two others) that fit the 'shady alley' setting. I personally know people who have used it as such without it actually being the Pearl Lane. I mean, I think that's pretty fair? Some people really like to have a visual setting to stoke their RP creativity. If they didn't, we wouldn't need to RP in the game at all, really. The point is, you never know the circumstances of an RP session unless you ask and talk to the RPers. That's the challenge with playing any sort of subterfugal character. You're always going to need OOC permission, but you also have to keep it interesting. Outside of that, you'll have to rely on OOC trust that the other person wants the same things out of the experience so you can do what you trying to do, and that's in very short supply when it comes to walkups or RPing with strangers. _______ I don't see the fun of being a shady or mysterious character if your neither shady nore mysterious. If its not open. Why are they open? They could always RP in group, but that doesn't really draw attention. So your saying a character should publicly role-play in a shady alley but not expect any shady individuals to listen to them or catch wind of what they are saying? That does not sound really like role-playing to me, that just sounds odd. You are playing in a shady alley for a reason right? There are also a few alleys in the Goblet and even all of the districts which seem out of place where a shady individual could hang out. Honestly though, I think one of the biggest disappointments to FFXIV is the cities not being connected to the districts. I would of loved to have inn rooms around the city and it actually feeling more like a player-city. However, these are all opinions. It is also no different from being in a bar and overhearing people. Even if your not actively spying on them you can still overhear them IC. Should they not expect to be heard? What if you were just listening to them at a bar and came to sit by them? I mean, you might think its different.. but not really. In the end, the consent thing for open role-play is silly at best. I think its mostly due to inexperience that it bother's people. However, I notice a great many people doing less and less open role-play and hiding in districts and houses now or doing only linkshell things. Which is an alright alternative, but it does get rid of a lot of the chaos and randomness that really can make role-playing fun. Although.. yeah again! OPINION =) It just reminds me of people role-playing darker characters, and bragging about how dark they are and how much void powers they have. Then when they learn someone found out about it they scream: "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT INFORMATION!!!!!!111 You must have read it off my bio!" Well.. word passes i'm afraid. Maybe you should not have been so obvious? Also the fact that some times people can simply assume and make up things. For example I remember telling a lie about a character IC to get them ICly in-trouble in another game's RP. It caused a sh*tstorm, because my 'lie' ended up being a truthful thing.. weird enough.
  3. Probably an unpopular opinion... In my opinion. If your public, outside of a house and saying something in the public.. assume everything you have said CAN and WILL be used against you in the future. No need to consent to it, you consented to it already by speaking publicly. However that is my personal opinion of it. If you need to ask consent for everything in role-play its no longer role-play. I notice, that some people have issues with this. However, the problem with that is as soon as you ask they 'go quiet' and stop talking about such sensitive things that could affect their character. I've even had it where "Hey, can I listen to you?" "Sure." IC: "I think we should go someplace a bit more quiet." lol.. its like: "Why even roleplay?" Although Open Roleplay seems rather .. quiet lately i'm afraid. =/
  4. Yo, I have not, nor ever, been a major part of any "established groups." I'm a floater. While I will occasionally help friends with their FC stuff, for the most part I will bounce in and out of groups, going with the rp wherever it goes. As someone who's been around for awhile, it's not like I have some intense connections. I've talked with a lot of people who are in groups, but due to our differences in characters, usually we just never connect. Even back in 2014, on Balmung, I'd do a lot (almost every day) of open rp in Limsa and would rarely see other ic rpers there (though I would get tells from ooc rpers commenting on the rp -- and sometimes even still today on Zhi I get tells from people every few months who saw me when I was active way back when and wanted to say hi!) Which means (when I'm more active) I usually go looking for other rpers, who aren't in rp plots that take up a lot of their time, who jive with whatever rp I'm trying to do. These people don't need to be new. Look at you, wanting to see more rp in the open, wanting a breath of fresh air. Well, there are a lot of people like you. The only difference is they aren't fresh to the game. Why don't they count to you? What makes them so undesirable? They're still creative people with a point of view who are eager and willing to rp. They just haven't found their groove yet. There will come a time on Mateus where people will say "things have changed" "it isn't as active as it used to be" "the rp used to be like this and now it's like this and I want it to be like the old way." It always happens. It isn't a bad thing to like the style of a different community -- servers each have their own feel. It could just be you're attracted to the bohemian feel of a fresh server. Maybe you just genuinely like that fresh car smell. I think maybe you need to have a good sit down and think about what makes you happy. Do players new to the game itself kick your creativity into overdrive? Then you're right, right now Balmung is gonna make you miserable. But to think that Balmung lacks talented, creative, inspired, fresh people who are interested in open rp, then I think you're not looking hard enough. Balmung and Mateus are going to be different. Those differences should be celebrated for what they have to offer -- and you know, it's okay if Mateus looks more attractive to you right now. Embrace it! Have fun! You do you. You can be on both servers, make a character on Mateus if it's calling to you! But I think you're way off base if you think Balmung's rp scene is dying or stagnating for lack of new faces. Just bolding to make this part easier to find for myself. (Don't see well.) Well, I wasn't really replying to you since I didn't think you were rude but let me rephrase. I don't really have an interest in looking into every house in every ward on the server to find that closed role-play I know exists. I mean, in character-ly that also just sounds rude. I apologize if I didn't get what you meant but that is what I mostly see lately. Old Faces are around yes, but they are and tend to be reclusive and stick to their groups. Which I have no issue with, that is what they like. One of my favorite groups is actually the Eldritch Collective because they are a big guild who actually sticks to the open and does a lot of things IC from what I see. I have no interest in going onto sites like Tumblr to find role-play. Having to go OOC to find IC has never interested me in any shape-or-form. That kind of role-play to me feels extremely forced, call me old fashioned I suppose. The wiki sounds like a good idea however. Although it would feel extremely weird to send people tells ooc asking for ic. That just makes me feel uncomfortable.
  5. Mmm. I think some people have misunderstood my thread but others have been spot on a bit. I have no intention of quitting or leaving just yet because I still have people I care about on the server. However, I am also not a fool either. I cannot say that I haven't been checking both servers and I have found that whilst one side has more role-players, the other has a lot more openly active role-players. To be completely honest, closed RP is almost as bad as no role-play. The problem is it takes new players to really get into the closed role-play. Why is that? It is really hard to get with established groups and the best way is to meet new players trying to get into them. Also, open role-play, actually seeing players out in the world role-playing is being hurt the most. That especially is most important. I have no intention of quitting though as some of you said. No idea where you got that from. However, if it does keep stagnating and going down within a few months. I may. I already see Open Roleplay on the other servers becoming even more then Balmung and its definately due to new players filling the spots their instead of here. New Players are a treat you know, do not underestimate that! To be honest though, now I know what Naboo feels like in Episode 1. SE promised to unlock the server though...
  6. I have been down for awhile now on Balmung. I love the server, I love the people and have so many plots and such I want to continue. However, with the server being shut down i've run into a few problems that I am sure other people feel the same. 1. There isn't really new role-players. 2. I see the same 10 people (obviously more!) its just it feels like it. I don't see any new role-play or anything going on. 3. Its been messing with my roleplay, because it involves around creating stuff with new and old players. Its sad. I don't really know if I want to move myself, but its been getting to the breaking point. The effects of the server being on permanent (seeming) lock-down is driving me mad. Anyone else feeling the Balmung Blues?

  8. Its been quite a few months, but I think I have been seeing a lot of stuff recently so I decided to bump this again. So new role-players and others can see this. I edited the main part as well. So I just added in the part of how to do it rather then the drama. Thank you for reading.
  9. Yeah, photoshopping is always possible, though it does add another layer of difficulty (and thus make it more unlikely to happen). Then again, after the past couple days, I don't doubt the lengths people will go to in order to falsify conversations with others. That took less then 5 minutes. As you can see, an emote, a whisper, and an error all in one thing.
  10. Sorry, fixed that. I edited it. I am partially blind and misread what you stated. Fixed it quick.
  11. You can indeed use both, in fact all three at once. I will prove it to you in a second. Let me do it quick in game. I will update when I make it.
  12. This is a public warning about the /echo command! Here are the instructions for each. Tells or Whispers: /echo [Name of Character] >> [Whatever you want them to say.] Reply /echo >> [Name of Character]: [Whatever you want to say back.] Emotes: /echo [Name of Character] [What you want them to do.] Error Messages: /echo Message to [Name of Character] could not be sent. Examples in the game... There is no way to tell the difference between this and a real screenshot currently to my knowledge. You can put it between real conversations to make people say pretty much anything. Please pass this message around. This is not meant to teach players how to grief others, but to protect them if something similar happens to them.
