  1. Thank you so much! I did write a response for being invited into the linkshell, and hopefully be able to get in contact with them to also be added to their Discord. This was super helpful and I had no idea that there was any RP on Cactuar (a friend and I have been asking around, but no one would either respond or knew of any off the top of their noggins). You are most welcome. Glad to see it was at least potentially helpful. Hopefully you'll find some good contacts.
  2. Hi there Mad Scarlet. It's possible I'm just sending you to the linkshell your friends made, but I did notice this exists. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=19698 http://ratedrp.shivtr.com/ I'm guessing you're aware of it, but thought I'd post it just in case you missed it since Cactuar wasn't mentioned on the linkshell page for Other realms. Hope you have a great weekend and find some new RP connections.
  3. Yes, I noticed some long-time Mateus players talking about this yesterday in the mentor network. I didn't realize the migration was going to be as large as it apparently has been. Wish I'd scraped together some gil and bought a plot before they were all snapped up. It's such a shame they can't figure out a way to give everyone the possibility to own a house who wants one and is willing to spend the gil for it.
  4. Hi there. Glad to see you are enjoying the FFXIV world. I'm just starting to get into it myself. I'm not trying to take your hello thread on a tangent, but as far as getting up to speed on lore, it can definitely be daunting. While this is a spendy way to get some context and certainly not for everyone, I have to say that I'm really appreciating having the Encyclopaedia Eorzea from Square Enix. It's a lovingly crafted book with a ton of information in it. Some of it is no doubt a bit spoilery, but I "benefit" from not having the greatest memory for things like that unless they are really big reveals. I hope you find that you have a long-term love for the game. Enjoy!
  5. Hello I've wanted to get into FFXIV for some time now, but in spite of giving the trial a look my girlfriend hasn't wanted to take the plunge. We've been enjoying WoW's Legion since it launched, but she's ready now to give FF a real try, and I want to make sure it has the maximum chance to reel her in. I know the concept of jumping past story elements is controversial in such a story-driven game, but my gf just can't get into the low-level story and simplistic combat over the first 20+ levels. So with that as the setup, if we DO start out with Stormblood content, beyond the most important step of learning how to play a job competently what important things are there that we will not have done that we need to go back and catch up on from a gameplay standpoint? Any important unlocks? Reputation gains? Chocobo training? Etc.... Thank you SO much for any advice other than "Play through the full game." I know that would be ideal, but unfortunately I don't think it's a viable option if I want her to fall in love with FFXIV.
  6. Thanks very much for the feedback, I really appreciate it. The resources here are excellent and I'm really impressed by the community involvement. Have a great weekend Alli
  7. Hello, I'm new to Final Fantasy and just easing my way into the game. I've loved the RP experience in other worlds and am hoping to convince my gaming partner to join me in moving to Balmung soon. As the title of the thread implies, I'm curious to know how widely the free companies and linkshells on the Balmung server use voice chat. For heavy game content I understand the need for at least the leader of a party to be able to use voice prompts. Beyond that I've found that I don't really like voice communication for general socializing with other players. Hearing people's RL voices and conversations about their everyday lives removes the sense of immersion for me in the game world for some reason. I certainly understand why some people love communicating this way, but I've just found that it's not fun for me. I would very much appreciate any suggestions you have on how to experience what appears to be a wonderful community without the use of voice for socializing with people in the game so I can maintain the feeling of immersion that I enjoy. Thanks very much for any comments or suggestions! Alli
