Yeah DPS ques. I typically try to do a combination of Queuing, asking in Shout and asking my LS. Sometimes I'm lucky. Sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I'm even asleep waiting for the que . Heck I'm still searching Brayflox for my infantry chest piece I might as well try grinding there till 40 . That being said it does kind of make feel guilty the fact that I've chosen Monk out of all my other war classes to cap to 50 first when I intend to cap them all anyhow. But considering the amount of work that the tank has to deal with, maybe its for the best at this moment. DPS through all of the future dungeons then go back and learn how to tank them when I pick up PLD or WAR again. Being a fresh new tank in an unfamiliar area seems to be a stigma in game with a lot of PuGs. Off-topic: Can I get in on that Titan smack down(assuming its Trial Titan) as the second DPS?

What I'd like to know, is why do servers have more characters linked to realms that do not have the space to support such a population? Seriously, I've considered character creation slots and server slots to be one in the same for the longest time. When the server was full it generally meant no more characters would be accepted and its business as usual. I would still be able to log in and play, just that people couldn't join the servers we play on. None of that world is full business. And that is really the heart of this problem.

Welp, error 90000 and severs can't update. Guess that's all the playtime I'm getting today. My deepest sympathies to my party back there as I was the tank for the group.

What are all of your opinions on the roles of each of the disciples of war classes? Would one have a "speciality" over the other? For example, between the two war tanks of the game, GLD/PLD seems to excel in single target tanking whilst MRD/WAR focuses on holding multiple mobs. Granted I'm just speaking from a 20-30 experience. I'm just trying to picture situations when one of the three war DPSer would be appropriate for X situation. For the most point I just queue as whichever dps class needs levelin.

Well to start where did you pre-order? Chances are what you may need could be in your email's spam folder under DIGITAL RIGHTS. I take it you'll need the product code for the actual game instead of the pre-order as they are not the same code. Seeing today is the 30th, Early Access is over and you'll need an official product code to keep playing.

One character to lvl all classes and jobs vs alts?
DriftingFable replied to Yskonyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It is my intent to master all the disciples of war classes. I figured that being an all around combat guy, why not try them all? Due to backstory reasons magic seems improbable at this point (I also don't believe I could ever get into healing) and I'm unsure whether or not I actually want to do my own crafting or not. So that limits me to 5 classes to level up which doesn't sound too bad to me. -
Mine would certainly be the Foestriker's Tabbard. Part Hoodie, Part halfcoat, and part chainmail all united under one banner creating an "Grand" apparel. I also like the Heavy Iron armor pieces; cept well the chest plate is quite hilarious though and unfortunately blocks out my face. My only fault with foestriker though is its inability to be dyed. Oh well, I ended up working around it and accepting its red color. So I'm gonna try to see how long I can trudge along with this set till something like the Darklight comes about.

Balmung's Finest: Community Dungeon Crawling Initiative
DriftingFable replied to Rhylund's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Man how'd I miss this, I'm certainly interested in being a part of it as I'll be running lots of dungeons for the foestriker sets and hopefully in the future Darklight sets. I usually play Tanking or DPS which ever is needed. To add to the discussion. I like DRU, its to the point and describes exactly the what the FC is about. -
Well I certainly took my time on this post, but really thanks everyone. I'm loving all of these various view points you've all got here. It really gives me a good idea on the state of affairs here. Though I should say bout the Scythe bit . . . that was more of a pure example of the potential kinds of unorthodox weaponry rather than a hint of what I'd like to use. Its tool I'd think that's very feasible to exists in this timeline despite we've yet to see one in game(or least I've yet to see anyone tending the fields, period). Its simply not often weaponized by traveling adventurers, though not too much is stopping a capable adventure from trying to do so. But to get a little more personal: I designed my character from the beginning to be a specialist in greatswords, even though said class isn't available as of yet. Greatswords have always been my weapon of choice in RPGs when it has been available as they tend bear the Mighty Glacier playstyle I prefer. And while I may be largely unfamiliar with Final Fantasy as a whole, I do believe it's only a matter of time before a my sought after class arrives that efficiently wields such a massive blade. Probably months and months away, but it will surely come if what I've researched on XI is any foretelling of what Square is willing to do on the MMO side of things. Till then, my character isn't above utilizing other tools outside his accustomed proficiency to get the job done(dabbling into the other classes like the pugilist). So that way I can still play the current classes and it won't suddenly be awkward or OOC. But now I look back and realize a slight issue. Assume the day does that a greatsword guild is founded and begins to accept members. Why after months of mastering/experiencing numerous forms of combat would said character suddenly decide to not only join up but hold its craftsmanship above all of his previously honed and mastered skills? Especially when he usually refers to his other weaponry as mere tools for his work. Sure he'd pick it up to advance his combat knowledge, but I can't find motivation here as to why the greatsword would become his main focus of all of his combat skills instead of simply another tool for the job. I mean to me, when you call a certain weapon type your specialty above all others, there's usually some form of personal attachment or bonding to said weapon. Dubs little snippet is evident of that, surely he and his Grymgohta have been through a lot together to share that kind of relationship. At least I'd think so. I want my character to have a much deeper appreciation for the blade over the rest of his gear, and the best way I believe said goal can be accomplished is for said sword to appear in his early life. Which would have to be before greatswords would ever see widespread usage among the adventurers of Eorzea and before my character would have easy access to the various weapon guilds. While I'm still narrowing down exact descriptive feelings beyond "the one true companion that has stuck with him through and through", the placement should at least lead to some reasoning as to why he would hold such a weapon in greater standing than his others. As I am nailing down the possibilities of how said blade is acquired, a Garlean origin for my greatsword seems likely as it would allow my character the earliest opportunity to acquire it. Which may or may not imply a gunblade modification to the weapon that I mentioned earlier. And I'm not at all too crazy about that, as honest as I can be. So you slapped a longsword onto a gun and called it technological superiority, goodie for you Garleans, I hardly see the marvel in it at this moment. Regardless, taking to account with how much the Garlean Empire likes to marry firearms and blades, I'd find it somewhat difficult to justify why said greatsword would lack such a thing. I would probably limit the gun bit to being something with shorter range and slow/not-spammable like a shotgun or a musket just to emphasize its melee proficiency over ranged fire power. But if its possible to lack said attachment and make sense to be of Garlean craft, I certainly wont mind taking that route for further balancing. And as I stated in the OP, such a weapon would probably have no action trait support and many other shortcomings due to its experimental nature. More or less, I'm pretty much just poking around trying to determine whats acceptable in the community and what constitutes as overboard. I do think understand the difficulties as addressed as such, some I was aware of but there was some information that got me to think a little more. I have little issue of mentioning the blade from time to time as I am usually descriptive with actions, that large slab of steel is bound so clank around as he moves. I will probably attempt to design said weapon a simply shaped as possible so it so it wouldn't be so difficult to describe. I also have little intent to attempt wield a different weapon type and pass it off as said greatsword as I would usually simply imagine in on his back along with his usual existing in-game weaponry. If it would however be better for the community leaving the blade in the care of a retainer or restricting usage of it till the widespread release of greatswords; so be it. But I feel that the weapon needs at the very least to have an existence in the backstory. Alternatively, my character does very well wield the existing weapons(swords, axes, baghnakhs, lances) along side with the custom greatsword, so it would certainly wouldn't bring about RP awkwardness if random bystander decided to comment on one of my other weaponry instead. In the end, I do understand if it really pushes someones buttons a little too far and ends up alienating me from a number individuals. I can at least take pride that there are some individuals here that are willing to RP with me in light of my abnormal character decisions; and that's something I can live with. Well that was a lot . . . soo obligatory TL;DR : I like greatswords, its what my character was designed around. I'd like for said greatsword to appear in his early history for bonding purposes. Its origin may be garlean and may have the gun- attachment that I'm not too crazy about. I will take great care into ensuring it has the proper drawbacks to its already perceived advantages such as no action traits or class support. And I believe I can combat the negatives presented in this thread of custom weaponry and calmly adapt to the situation if it proves hazardous in RP. Really, thanks again for all of these replies.

Regardless, taking to account with how much the Garlean Empire likes to marry firearms and blades, I'd find it somewhat difficult to justify why said greatsword would lack such a thing. I would probably limit the gun bit to being something with shorter range and slow like double barreled shotgun just to emphasize its melee proficiency over fire power. Maybe I didn't search hard enough; thought I would have found a topic on this. So I apologize in advance if I'm digging up a topic that's already been debated on. What's the current verdict on custom weaponry that cannot be currently obtainable through normal gameplay means? As long as its feasible within the universe, makes sense for the character background supplied, and not insanely overpowered; would it be acceptable? I'm talking about stuff like unobtainable swords like Aldis' Frenzy with their own unique backgrounds, rarer forms of weaponry like gunblades, tools or crafts that are not usually brought to battle as weaponry like scythes, and even some sort of fusion between the two weapons creating something truly unique within the realm. While players at the moment cannot utilize them in gameplay, they do exist in the universe in some form or are at the very least somewhat plausible given the proper explanation much like the male miqote situation(well the odds of a "gunscythe" is probably the least likely but it can be built if someone in the empire's got the skill and resources to do so). I would however imagine based on how unique the weapon is, it could be lacking in action trait support compared to the established classes. To me, there's nothing physically prevented someone from holding a baghnakhs('side from gameplay mechanics), but only a trained Pugilist can pull off Bootshine combos. And with the most likely lack of a guild support for said weapon, you'd either have to be one rare individual to be taken under the wing of a teacher who has not yet founded a guild or you'd be struggling to try and develop your own style. Both paths probably won't produce the quantity of skills housed by the established classes. The wielder for the most part would be very much reliant on their pure physical ability and shock factor of wielding their unorthodox weapon choice versus utilizing tried and true techniques that have been passed down for generations. Mechanics aside, how would one go about using a custom weapon in RP? Yeah they wouldn't show up in-game and wouldn't be able to be utilized in pvp type RP scenarios, but chances are if someone noticed it on their person it would really be the most distinctive thing on the character. Aldis being the example yet again, as one look at his unique blade was enough to talk a rowdy Roegadyn out of a fight. Although Aldis has the advantage of having his custom blade actually being modeled in game, so would an RPC simply have to reference their sheathed weapon from time to time so it doesn't suddenly pop out of thin air when the time comes? Ultimately, is it a direction that can welcomed or should it be avoided like the plague in favor for sticking with whats in game?

While I'm eagerly awaiting my greatsword class, I want some sort of cross class ability to wear heavy armor on my pugilist, tired of these rags. An Iaido katana class would be nice but I can live without in this game.

I can say the description has certainly updated to reflect that change. There is no longer such a clause as gladiators being empty off handed on the official site anymore. So I can only assume the role is gone. Oh well, Two handed swordsmen will come eventually. And I have taken a liking to the immortal flame shields. They're short, they glow, and they've got blades attached to them. I can drink to that(If I drank that is). Alas that'll mean I'm forever locked away from possessing the Twin Addler's axes huh? That's the only axe with a large enough blade for my liking.
-
I've actually little reasoning RPwise for my decision, it was more along the lines that the option simply existed. As stated before, there were gladiators who used the shield and those that didn't. While shield seems like the obvious choice for the tank, I wanted give the less popular route a try and see if it could work out adequately. I love taking the least popular routes in a game and playing around with it. I figured if the class description went to such lengths to state such a thing, there'd be some form of support for it. The shield skills I've got didn't link with a combo nor did they aid MP generation for my flash skill. So I figured why not? Alas now I can't seem to find that depiction anymore on the official site, so looks like that route is gone forever. Regardless of my previous views, sounds like the shield does gain more importance in the later game so I'll start bringing bucklers into battle and try re-experimenting with the shield skills, perhaps I just didn't give my lower level shields enough credit for the job it did. Maybe I'll try a marauder some time and get used to the axe design, but my beta experience gives me the impression that gladiator is in the minority of the two tanking classes based on the player's I've encountered. Should I ever decide to leave the shield at home for field work, I could ICly probably just say its an off hand dagger rather than calling myself a gladiator(considering I normally in the field main Pugilist). But heck I could be fully converted to shields by then. But really, thanks for your thoughts everyone.

Alright so I'm rolling pugilist at the moment whilst I await my true calling in the form of a two handed swordsman class. And I'm really liking pugilist, so I took up gladiator to prepare for monk and to remedy the tank shortage. However, I do not like shields, the designs just look like an overall meh. I prefer to focus on my pure sword arm and laugh at the enemies damage to my healthbar. Much like Thancred(who's supposed to be a bard, but hey he sure fought like a gladiator). Hell, I barely even noticed Aldis carried a shield with that sword of his, it makes the board look like a pure afterthought. While sure Marauder is probably more suited for what I want to do, I really like swordsmanship and the swordsman of the game just so happens to be gladiator. I'm fully willing to accept that shielded gladiators will outperform me, but I'd like to know just by how much. I mean so far in the 1-20 portion of the beta I've had little trouble with death. At worst I'd loose aggro to a carbunkle or two and sometimes get brought down to half my HP on raid bosses before the healer gets in gear. I'd just like to know if I'm a complete liability to my party or not because of my decision. Worse comes to worse I suppose I could at least get a shield for the raids and quest without one if need be.

I dc'ed while changing areas with a 10000 code. But when I tried to log in my character was missing and that message in the title. My skype buddies are still logged in and the servers don't go down for another 4 hours. Any course of action I can take here? Edit: it states character list rather than realm. my mistake. Edit 2.0: Well I found out why . . . http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/106070-NA-Emergency-Maintenance-on-North-American-and-European-Worlds-%28Aug.-18%29 Those already in game seem unaffected but those who aren't can't log back in . . . Sure hope this means extension but we'll see.

Hello there, just your friendly neighborhood aspiring Indie Game designer/Forum roleplayer taking a look around. I'd say the longest running MMO's I've stuck around in Star Wars Galaxy and ToR, Mabinogi/Vindicutus, And Phantasy star online games. I typically prefer Sci Fi and primarily more action-oriented stuff but sometimes I make an exception for the traditional Fantasy scheme of things. As I said, most of my RPing experience comes from years of fourm based post-by-post roleplays. I don't have much in-game RP experience, I was somewhat aware of it in in my time on Galaxies but never got involved in it. But currently I'm involved in a small little in-game community on PSO2. Soo I'm gettin there . . . Alas, I know next to nothing bout the game; I haven't even played a final fantasy game at all before. That said small PSO2 community had been talking alot about FFXIV lately, so I decided to pop in and see whats the fuss all about. Hope be imtriguged with today's beta. I'm not even sure what questions I want to ask this point, so I'll cut it off here before I start to get too wordy.:dazed: Hope I'll have a clear idea on what kind of questions to ask soon.
