  1. House Marchand has only recently been conceptualized, and we are seeking people to become either family members or retainers of the house. Our goal is to build our elezen family from the ground up as people create their characters, while still offering a place for legacy characters on the Balmung server. If you have a character already established and you'd like to find a niche in our house, you are welcome! We'd also love to welcome anyone who might not have a firm backstory in place yet. The goal is to figure out some back stories and a family history together. What is House Marchand? Located in the verdant city of Gridania, the Marchand family are crafters and merchants above all else. When the calamity struck, the house took in a great many refugees. These wayward souls were given food, housing, and allowed to use the extensive crafting halls of the house to learn a new vocation. Several of those refugees have made the house a permanent home, crafting or serving the house in other ways. What We Seek: Elezen Race The heirs of the house are wildwood elezen, so most family members will need to choose the elezen race and wildwood clan. However, we are quite open and might consider adopted persons if the story works. Also - people who join our house do not need to be of the family. As a large manor, there are places for guards, servants, spies and most importantly - craftsmen. Surname "Marchand" Please know that we are hoping that people who are true family members will choose "Marchand" as their in game character surname. This is not required, there are some loopholes where a different name could work. However, as part of the goal of a shared narrative, this is one thing that will pull us together. Some potential roles, and unavailable ones We would LOVE more siblings! The matriarch has recently died, so that is an unavailable role. Patriarch (father) - if we find the right person interested in this role. Other extended family - aunts/uncles/grandparents Cousins - this is an easy way to not need to take the Marchand name, but still be involved! Note that this house will be a linkshell only - no Free Company is planned at this time. However, if there is enough interest then a Free Company would be considered. The goal of House Marchand is to be another place to socialize, another set of stories and another group of people to roleplay with. Further, we hope to have social events that the RP community will be invited to. Overall we are very open in potential members, so long as the storyline makes sense. Please visit our website or drop a line if you are interested in joining. We look forward to playing with you! ~Erisande
  2. Thanks for the feedback, Asyria. I think it's possible to still be a household with servants and such while still being just a linkshell. Again, my intention here was not to be a "main" guild or a free company, really. Just another point of contact, and I think that can be accomplished with just a linkshell to keep in touch. ~Aio
  3. Balmung is partially in my future, but not set in stone. If a lot of talking shows the interest mainly on Gilgamesh, then I'm all in. Anyone who is interested, send me a message in some way and we can put together an email chain or Skype chat room. Thanks! ~Aio
  4. Hello! I am actively seeking an elezen "household" linkshell, and so far have been unable to locate anything on either Balmung or Gilgamesh. I know some people might roll their eyes at this concept, but it's a storyline/setting where I've enjoyed some amazing roleplay in previous games and I'd like to put some feelers out. By household, I mean that there is a family element, people who possess the same surname, hopefully in their actual character name. In addition to the family itself, I expect that there will be some retainers and other people living in the house for various reasons as noted in my concept ideas below. If anyone knows of existing households, I'd be interested to hear about or contact them. If none exist, I have some ideas of my own and would love to chat with anyone who might be interested. No server selected yet, it will depend on where people who ARE interested would prefer to be. The household I have in mind are crafters and merchants. Sure, they might dabble or even excel in the arts of war or magic, but the main focus is crafting. I also don't plan for this to be a "main" linkshell, just another set of connections for players and another storyline to RP. The goal here is social interactions of a different sort. My few ideas for the concept of the family, as well as game play elements: 1. City or forest? I don't know. Although elezen are usually nomadic in caves and forests, perhaps this family came to the big city seeking excitement and settled in to become merchants. They may have only been in the city for a generation or two. Another option is that they are just settled nice and comfy in Gridania and have been for many years. 2. When the calamity struck, the house took several refugees into their home. The forge, the looms, and other crafting equipment were put to good use as these refugees learned to craft. These people might feel grateful or indebted to the house for this training, as well as the roof over their heads. Some of these people might have stayed and are permanent fixtures in the house. 3. Although the family themselves are elezen and some members might be more snooty, there's a potential for adopted persons/spouses, as well as those who were refugees after the calamity to take up residence. All races would be welcome. 4. Being dedicated to crafting, and general merchant business, this means there's money involved. Guards and spies would have a place here to protect the house's assets. 5. They're forced to buy materials for crafting, but are looking to perhaps find better gathering contacts, or delve into it a bit themselves. This could culminate in alliances with other guilds or being eager to welcome gatherers into their fold. 6. Speaking of alliances, they need protection and could ally with more militaristic or adventurer based guilds. 7. Parties! As a family who needs to maintain their connections with the merchant world as well as the consumers (i.e. everyone), soirees, balls and other get togethers could be commonplace. (Perhaps once a month to start?) 8. Not interested in crafting? You could absolutely still have a place here. Maybe we took you in at the calamity and you just live here now as you make your own way in the world - an adopted son or daughter who we encourage to succeed. 9. Just got back from your 5 year "nap" after the calamity? Need a place to rest your head? We would be sympathetic to such a plight. You could work as a guard or in the kitchens until you get back on your feet. So, these are just some ideas I had. I think this sort of concept could be a lot of fun. If you or someone you know has a house already, perhaps some of this could be incorporated? Or if I have enough interest I might just go for it and see what happens! I'd love to hear from anyone with ideas or feedback. ~Aiora Skype: sereneaurora AIM: oosereneauroraoo Or PM me on these boards!
  5. I. Basic Info Characters: Erisande Marchand, Aiora Whitewind Primary character: Erisande Marchand Linkshells: House Marchand, Traveling Templar Primary RP linkshell: House Marchand II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Back and forth between heavy and medium. RP is one of the primary reasons I play, but I also like just talking to people about the real world, plus when I'm leveling heavily I'm mostly OOC. Views on RP combat and injuries: My characters don't usually get into fights of any kind, but occasionally are called on to heal the injuries. If someone needs help advancing a storyline with a fight or injury, I'm usually ready to roll with it. In both cases, the players need to communicate OOC to decide upon the outcome. Views on IC romance: Greatly enjoy it because it's like a romance novel you get to write yourself! Like everyone else states on this topic - IC and OOC need to be separate. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Also greatly enjoyed, and hoping to find some this go around. I don't worry so much about people disappearing and being offline for a time if real life calls. With the in game world as chaotic as it is, it's not unheard of for people to be sent away on dangerous missions or to simply go missing on an adventure. OOC absenses can usually be explained in some IC way. Views on lore: I try to be as true to it as I can, but I also think it's worth recognizing that bending it sometimes makes for unique experiences. I do like to be as true to it as possible and will research on wikis and such to make sure I have my details correct. But when I don't, I hope people will be gentle in their corrections! Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I think linkshells should be used ICLy as they are designed - as a communications device. I don't think linkshells should be used for extensive scenes or interactions. /say is the primary RP channel in my world, it helps draw others in and encourage others to RP. I usually OOC in linkshell, party, and tells. Tells can be briefly IC as well, but I typically won't RP long scenes here. III. 6. The amusing thing is that a short roegadyn female is still a wee bit shorter than hyur highlander males. Pretty sure a tall midlander is about head to head with a short roe woman. Many elezen males are also taller. So we don't have to be GIANTS. Unless you're a lalafell or miqo'te. Then I crush you. ~Aio
  7. Both yes and no, actually. The name I want for my roegadyn (White Wind) is unavailable, plus I wanted something a little more flowing and prettier. So I came up with an IC reason why my roegadyn female (Hellsguard) has both her roegadyn name, and one that is...not. ~Aiora Whitewind
  8. My only planned character will be roegadyn female! When I start new MMOs, I typically like to play whichever race is the most rare while still being tall and semi-pretty, meaning I don't play dwarves and gnome types. In 1.0 I played female elezen, but with the female roegadyn now offered that's where I'll be! It is a shame that they went through all the work to code and design these lovely ladies and they'll barely be used. Aiora WhiteWind, Hellsguard: Now I just have to hope there will be plenty of roegadyn men around, too! ~Aiora
