I'm just confused because if the battle of carteneau happened in 1572 and the people who were fighting were teleported away and return 5 years later wouldn't that make it the year 1577? What am I missing? or was the whole 5 years thing misinformation that I've heard? The Battle of Carteneau happened in 1572, you are correct. It was 1572 of the 6th Astral Era. However, the Calamity that occurred during the battle is such that it caused a new era. It is now the 7th Umbral Era. When we start a new era in Eorzea due to such an event, the years start over at 1. So it is now, in ARR, year 5 of the 7th Umbral Era, not 1577. Oh okay so the 6th astral era lasted 1572 years? Sorry I'm a bit new to the lore but that cleared up a lot, thanks.

At the beginning of FFXIV ARR is it going to be year 1572? I'm trying to write a character bio from childhood through to present and need the present year, thanks

Just a quick question to whoever has played the beta (I haven't), can you put cross class abilities anywhere on your hotbar(s) or is there a special bar you have to put them on where only cross-class abilities go? Just asking because I'm kind of crazy when it comes to new games and I'm mapping all my keybinds to their abilities before I even play and need to know if these can go anywhere or only on a certain bar, thanks

Thanks a bunch for the help everyone, I will go with Michael as the first name and simply ask to be called Mike. I'll figure a good IC reason to want to be called Mike, maybe just for simplicity, I haven't decided yet. Thanks again :lol:

I have read the naming conventions and looked at a random name generator for Hyur male Midlanders but I am not a big fan of most of the first names. I will choose a different name if the name Mike is too different from lore to be useable but the main reason I made this thread was more-so for personal opinions of other Roleplayers. What would you think if you seen the name Mike in Final Fantasy? Would you accept it, not want me in the group, or tell me to change it to fit lore better? I just want some personal opinions.

I will be making a Hyur Midlander on Balmung and want to have his first name be Mike. Is this too far out of a name to be used? Will it offend people I RP with by not being a "usual" Final Fantasy name?
