  1. To be fair, opening with a trollish comment and then complaining about people getting riled up is *facepalm* material. Anyways, try out both servers and wander around the major cities - you could also try some looking for RP LS, they exist on both servers. RP isn't level specific, unless the RP is happening in a higher level or secluded location, in which case it's more than likely going to be more "cliquey". Tavern RP is usually the most common and most RP'ers I've met will always welcome one another. Just find an excuse to engage them! P.S. Not all RP'ers are quick typists and some like to think about the situation before responding, so don't be offended if it takes a moment or two for them to acknowledge you.
  2. For what it's worth, I originally rolled on Gilgamesh when the servers opened up, and then when Balmung opened up (I went there since from what I read it was had more RP'ers), and was disappointed that I didn't see a single RP from level 1 -10 and the RP LS I was in (#3 or #4) had a whole bunch of people who didn't talk when I tried to engage them, which was totally different from my experience in Gilgamesh. Of course, this was only a two-day sample, so I'm sure I might have just had bad timing. But I've been having a blast since I went back to Gilgamesh and haven't looked back! I'm a person who RP's as they level, so Gilgamesh has been working great for me. Try both servers and get a feel for it, the major cities are a good place to try it. I've been having lots of open world RP (because that's all I do). If you're willing to walk away from a game because you're not content with the RP, then I would say having an existing leveled character matters less in the end. Also leveling in this game is pretty easy, so you won't really be that disadvantaged either way.
  3. Looking forward to this! Do you still need any actors? Though I can only assist if you need a Wildwood and it doesn't conflict with her worship of Nymeia.
  4. Welcome Vashnu! We're an open community on Gilgamesh, please free to check out this thread: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3116 and reach out to some of the individuals listed in there to join our OOC channel. We're a friendly bunch and would be glad to help show you the ropes and answer any questions you have!
  5. Oh thanks, didn't know about the Intermission one. The name made me think of a Stage Company so I didn't look more into it as I thought it was a FC. Edit: Hm, the Balmung intermission channel seems quite dead however...
  6. I know Gilgamesh has the CoalitionOOC - does Balmung have anything similar? I've tried shouting in the cities but no reply. I haven't quite decided which server to go to, but after seeing a ton of Level 50s running around in their final job gear on Gilgamesh I figure there really isn't much difference now.
  7. Balmung was open so I created a character there. Never thought I would see the day where I would have a choice Now I need to choose which server to settle on, hm hm.
  8. -sigh- It's comments like these that upset me. It's not a fail launch. It's an unpredictably -amazing- launch, as far as SE is concerned. These problems are coming up now, because none of the betas were an accurate picture of the load they'd have. We didn't have log in issues in P2/P3. Well. Not issues related to server load, atleast. Open beta (P4) had some, but they were handled. EA had some, but they were handled. The game launched -ONE- week ago, and they have more than double, probably more than triple the people trying to log in now than they did in the betas and EA. EA had -no- sign that this was coming, and they're scrambling around trying to get their shit together. They're doing the best they can, given the circumstances... A game should never be considered a failed launch, untill atleast a month in. Deciding it within a week? You're not even giving it the chance it deserves. I would disagree, betas will never show the true numbers, as not everyone likes beta testing. They could easily get an idea of the pre-orders, which would represent the EA people. And from glancing through the internet you could tell the hype for FFXIV:ARR was pretty good. That should have gave them a better idea what was going to come. Heck, they struggled in EA. Pre-orders, regardless of what game, are usually only a small proportion of those who will actually buy the game. Sure, they're doing the best they can in the current circumstances, but that's no excuse - they should have been a lot better prepared. Bugs I can deal with, but locking people out of the game and not having a proper queue system to log in, especially considered they've launched more than one MMO? That's disappointing imho, considering they were re-releasing this as an "apology" for what 1.0 was. I'm not saying they should have had 100 servers at launch... but where were their contingency plans?
  9. I'm kind of with you, the login issues are really frustrating. I'm going to see if I can create a character on Balmung or log into Gilgamesh tonight, or I might just take a break from the game. For the Faerie people, which server did you migrate to?
  10. If you can grab a retail version you can still join the game, no? I thought it was only digital downloads that were temporarily suspended.
  11. I did get an in-game notification about emergency maintenance, so it might be related to that.
  12. Haha, I'm logged in right now and half-tempted too try. Maybe I'll wait for one of my crashes. I'm overdue for one any moment now. On a different note, what series is your avatar from Nimarhie? (I tried to PM you). Edit: Really? I like the series (even if it is kind of cheesy at times ^^). Don't recognize the character though, but I'm currently at the end of the Goddess arc.
  13. It's not too bad, I was able to log in during peak hours yesterday after maybe 5-10 tries to get into the queue (since my computer likes to crash, my cpu and video card are showing its age)..
  14. I check the forums every now and then, so you can also leave your name here and I'll invite if I see you around.
  15. Vincent Mercer is the LS creator, Me'nhalki Khen also has invite abilities. Me'nhalki and I are both new at it so we don't know how to add more people to have invite powers. ^^
  16. How do you add people as friends? I tried in the social list but it keeps telling me those names don't exist.
  17. I'm on Faerie for now, but I'm really low level as: 1) I've been "Oooh....Ahhh" 2) "What does this go? Hmmm..." 3) I'm a complete newbie and trying to learn as I go (there was no manual with the game and internet guides are sparse). At least I get the occasional answer from shout Hyur - Ava Lancelot
  18. And I have my characters all lined up... but I can't create them.
  19. A middle-height figure stepped through the doorway, in a thick dark cloak, with the hood pulled up, shrouding the face in darkness. Not much could be identified about the figure, besides they were burdened with several bags and appeared to be carrying some under the cloak as well. Well, perhaps not a Lalafel, unless there were several of them sitting on each others' shoulders (while likely a remote possibility, one should not discount such things). As the figure (or figures) appeared to be weary and nonthreatening, none of the tavern's inhabitants impeded the wanderer(s) as they slowly shuffled into one of the tables in the corner of the tavern. The Wanderer(s) signaled to the innkeeper for a drink and meal, and settled back on the bench to warily inspect those in the nearby tables. (OOC) Hello! I'm new to these forums (and FFXIV in general), as I've heard lots of negative press when the game was first released and never gave it a thought since. Then yesterday I was reading a blog and noticed that FFXIV:ARR was being released today, so my interest got piqued. A couple of hours later I'm now itching to give FFXIV:ARR a whirl and put it through its paces! Having said that, I have little knowledge about the game, hence my undecided character (and server, though I've heard good arguments for both Balmung and Gilgamesh!) My mmorpg experience is limited, as I've only played two. I've played only EQ and WoW. My RP style is probably between light to medium, if I had to pick one. I'm also allergic to skype/voice-chats. I hope to see some of you out there in Eorzea! No idea which server because after a couple of hours I'm still undecided (・_・ヾ - The_Wanderer
