In a more serious note, what about looking at stores outside your area? It'd take some interneting, but a lot of shops would be willing to ship physical copies if you have a card to pay over the phone with. I could even look in the area here (Twin Cities).

Make friends with someone in the area that owns FFXI, then beat them up and use THEIR copy? I guess that's the marauder solution at least...

The problem is that my work schedule precludes waking up early to log on. My free time is usually 4-midnight, which is pretty much the 8 hours of "peak".

When CC restrictions are lifted, my main's set to be a Highlander, so helpful to know, especially since I was looking at Ala Mhigo as well for a background! Still wish there was a little more lore out there, for a lot of things.

I work early mornings, so I can't stay up late, and waking up at 3 or 4 just to hope the late night people/west coast people are in bed and I can make a character isn't feasible. I'm glad for those of you that could and got in one of the two, but they're locked for me at the moment, and "peak" usually lasts until I need to sleep sadly. In fact, ALL the servers are locked to new character creation when I try other than the new two.

I don't think anyone believes everything will be magically solved Wednesday, but it's a scheduled fix, and a little optimism that things will at least be semi-functional after that isn't that bad a thing to look to.

Thus my last statement about holding out for Wednesday. It's still a "hopefully" though, and it still doesn't make tonight, or all the past week, feel any better sadly.

Still locked out of Gilgamesh and Balmung character creation. Have made characters on Faerie, Siren, Midgardsormr, Adamantoise, Coeurl, Behemoth, Goblin, Ultros, Cactuar, and Lamia over the past week, since THOSE would be full and I'd have to hope another server wasn't. Those are all saying full now as well. Not a single US/EU server is allowing creation as I look, not one. Even if I wanted to keep trying, I keep getting lobby errors and booted away. I withhold judgement until the promised Wednesday server updates, but I've had plenty of free time as is to read or watch a movie. I'm just a little despondent over things at the moment.

If we're showing some tributes to Miyazaki, I'm sure I have one of his works some of you have never seen. A music video he helped direct in 1995 with Studio Ghibli's help.

A lot of his newer works have been done in collaboration with other writers, producers, and studios. As great of a visionary as he is, I think it's best to not look at it as a loss of one of the greatest, but a chance for a new generation of talented anime movie producers to step up and fill the void Miyazaki will leave behind. It's not a guarantee of course, but I have hope.

I will say it looks like a real long road for those of us just coming into the FFXIV community comparatively. Both Gilgamesh and Balmung have been locked since launch for the most part from new character creation, and it's very likely that they won't be unlocked from new creation even after new servers are added. Added on top is a lack of wanting to split up the FF roleplaying community, thus not supporting other RP servers. I'm not at SE's throat on the matter, I know they're doing what they can at the moment, nor do I disagree about keeping the community cohesive. It might mean that some of us new people will be left out of the core RP communities for 2 weeks, perhaps longer, because of the overpopulations.

Getting onto an existing character seems a lot easier than making a new one. I've made characters on 7-8 different NA servers by now, and I'm able to get onto at least one of them most of the time (other than when the server list has been down).

I DO think the title could easily be changed to "Miqo'te Cultural & Biological Influences Explored" and get the same great discussion that it's turned into, since it seems the primary problem certain people are having is the title seeming to place total emphasis on mating... which the thread has clearly made into only one deeper aspect of Miqo'te culture. I also enjoy the idea of threads looking into the same for other cultures, even if they're less played than Miqo'te. I never played Mithra in 11, nor will I play Miqo'te in 14 (catgirls/catboys just have never held any interest for me), but regardless of more mature exploration in this, it's a great resource and well researched/thought out. :love:

Deeper introductions not withstanding, it's 5 am here, so a template was greatly accepted! MMORPG background Everquest for years, WoW for years, FFXI for years. Others for a lesser time, including City of Heroes, Anarchy Online, Rubies of Eventide, Earth & Beyond, Age of Conan, Everquest 2, and DOFUS (I've lost track of trials and betas). RP experience Speaking only in terms of online games, about 14-15 years or so in any game that has a community, including longer RP experiences in WoW, Everquest, and FFXI. Offline, I've had as many years involvement with pen and paper RPGs, primarily L5R and D&D. Character ideas/info Seeing as the "RP servers" are still locked, I've nothing finalized, but I almost always play the same concept; a strong noble woman of middling years, usually playing off the dichotomy of a proper, regal woman that is less than the norm of "a pale delicate flower". Count on a Hyur or Elezen. How did you learn about the coalition? Since I've always seen MMORPG's as vessels for roleplaying, I've always made it a goal to track down the best source of roleplaying I can through research. The HRC just happened to be prominently featured in research about 14's RP community. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Though I've always thought the distinctions nebulous, when I roleplay, I roleplay. I'm certainly not above idle OOC chatter in the least, but I've been known to do scene's for 8+ hours. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I've had enough experiences from my younger, headier days to not wish to just basely share more personal info, but I can give some. I'm well past school (32), work as a driver, and my hobbies include anime, roleplaying, CCGs, miniatures, and writing. Standard geekery really!

I just saw this, after I posted in the general area about this very issue too! Regardless, it's too late to do anything, but I've a Hyur named Daedela Snowveil that I've been using that might be interested in this.

I just thought I'd give a word here that I'm one of those coming on with ARR. I've had a chance to get a character onto Midgardsormr, Adamantoise, Behemoth, Ultros, Goblin, Cactuar, and Faerie since launch, meaning they've opened up long enough to get a new character onto them. I have yet to see Gilgamesh ever open for new characters, even in the wee hours, let alone Balmung. I've contented myself with base leveling, and I understand where people are coming from about dividing the community long term (especially all the 1.0 people that are well established). I've seen enough about SE opening new servers so that new people have places to go, just like I realize that people will leave after the free to play period is over. Still, I'm reluctant to progress too far on any of the servers I have a character on since I'd like my main to be RP focused, and there's a lot of time and investment in getting to 50. That said, are there settled "temporary" RP groups on other servers? There's been talk, but nothing for certain I could pick out. Again, I'd prefer it just to be a stop gap, for the sake of more roleplayers as well as to not give ill-will with a divide), but the F2P period was extended, and if things stay congested for a few weeks, that could be dull indeed.
