Bard Prerequisites Met, but No Soul of the Bard Quest Awaits
Mongoose replied to Mongoose's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Hi Racoon, Wow, I didn't. So I took your advice and did "The One that Got away," (and I got beat up doing it), and now I'm a new "junior" bard. Thanks much!!!!! Cheers, Mongoose:D -
Hi, I just achieved Archer lvl 33, and Pugilist Lvl 15 as rqd for Bard. I arrived at the Archer Guild Guildmaster and there is no "!" symbol, hence, no indication of the "Soul of the Bard Quest" awaiting. I have no crystals in inventory. I was advised, in the game chat, to first get the green crystal from Jehantel, located somewhere west of Quarry Mill, and then approach the guildmaster, but I can't find Jehantel. Any advice will be most highly appreciated. Thanks much Mongoose

Hi Haven's Fox, and thanks for replying, I re-looked under the account services, then subscription services tab, They have me down for Standard, 8 characters per world, 180 days with credit card payment method. When I click next the page just reloads. They have my credit card info on record from last month. The service history is blank for Aug, Sep and Oct. The World Transfer Service and Veteran Rewards did not happen. Question becomes, in light of a 180 day Account Status, there must be another step I should have followed to enlighten the SQ Enix staff that I desire to avail myself of the Veterans Rewards. Thanks again

Hi, I'll most highly appreciate hearing from anyone who successfully renewed FFXIV with a lump sum 60 days or more. I've been spending a lot of time on the Square Enix Mog Station Support Center in an attempt to renew for 90 or 180 days. All it allowed me to do is recurring 30 days which occurred upon my entering the credit card information. Searching all over the Mog Station website and derivative web pages hasn't yielded the magic page where I am to enter lump sum payment. There is a bunch of narrative of so-called "crysta" but the about Crysta web page reads "COMING SOON" in the block for FFXIV, so this seems to imply that the use of purchased "crysta" currency(?) is not yet applicable for FFXIV specifically. Please correct me if I'm wrong. A message posted to the Square Enix forum has gone unanswered. Any assist will be most graciously appreciated. Thanks much in advance, and thanks much for all the hard work and accomplishments of this, the roleplayers.com website. Mongoose

Should gamers be accountable for in-game war crimes?
Mongoose posted a topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Seems interesting to be aware of, although not applicable (or is it?) to FFXIV. Article (with reader comments) from The Guardian -
Hats off to RushOfNeon of the IGN Website. The survey is still active and contains over 3200 responses so far. FFXIV-ARR character & demographic multi-site survey The specific links for filling out the survey, and for seeing the results, are in the above URL. Hope this is useful. Cheers.

Crafting in the Middle of Fates, Fights, etc
Mongoose replied to Mongoose's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Hi Rhylund, Thanks for pointing things out. To clarify, I was not angry or mad at the gatherer or anyone when I tried to defeat the 2 adversaries, and that was when I was at a low level not long after Aug 27, when the game began. Not knowing the definition of griefing, I went to the Urban Dictionary, and found many interesting definitions for griefing, as they apply to video games. It appears I committed the griefing "violation" during that incident, although the gatherer didn't seem to notice. At any rate, I didn't intend to cause the gatherer any grief. As a low level novice, I was disappointed that I couldnt get him to assist, but that's it; I had no anger or desire to cause anyone any grief over that one time incident. On many later attempts, over several days, and finally success, he was always there, but I didn't go close to him any more. Hope this suffices, thanks for better knowledge of those who do things other than fight bad guys. When I get a chance, I'll briefly try one of those skills so I can see what they have to go thru. -
Okay, gotta ask, if I may..... No offense to those who do crafting. How is it that there is crafting going, dead center in the middle of Fates, in areas where Fates are likely, and the enemies don't harm the crafters? They should be an easy target. When I was a below level 10 gladiator, I had to do a quest involving Central Thanalan, to deal with a demoralized gladiator down the hill. That's the one where 2 bad guys come out and beat me up; I finally defeated them, but got killed a lot before I figured out how. Nearby there was a craftsman chiseling at the rock wall; so before I triggered event, I got in front of the craftsman trying to get him to help me beat the bad guys. I tried every Emote, pointing toward the event, and he totally ignored me. He's there all the time. Next I lured the bad guys, and the fight, right next to the craftsman, hoping he would join in and help me. He moved over a few steps and ignored me and the bad guys. The bad guys just ignored him and beat me up. Again, no offense to crafting; just curious... 2nd query, why is there so much crafting in busy places, like right in front of merchants, etc?

Hi Aeslyn Grey, and others, Thanks very much for replying, and for boosting my morale! I updated my profile to indicate being a Novice, and Level-13 Archer, and I plan to avoid switching back to Gladiator for the rest of the levels. So far, I think that Archer is more fun than getting up close and personal with the enemies as a gladiator. Well, that's just me, everyone is different. There's a ton of stuff I should have read prior to Aug 27th, particularly the FFXIV Realm Reborn Dictionary. Prior to Aug 27, I casually played FF-13 in order to become a good FFXIV player, and ended up getting the crap beat out of me. Aselyn Grey, thanks for turning me onto Guildheists. I'll be looking for them. I did see a YouTube video about guildheists where it was stressed that "spam healing" causes bad things to happen. But I have to keep looking (for Guildheist examples and for actual Guildheists) to find out, step by step, how to engage in a guildheist properly. I have done individual Leves with mixed outcomes. Thanks again, Mongoose

Hi FreeLanceWizard, I'm taking your advice as far as I can, at both skills of my character (Lvl 20 Glad., and Lvl 12 Archer) and sticking to the Level 12 Archer for now. Instead of remapping targeting keys to E, F, etc, I mapped them to the M1 thru M5 keys on the left of the Razer keyboard for convenience,. It appears that the best way to prepare for future "tanking," is to fight as much as possible in Fates, and so I'm concentrating on fates. Even so, not all the targeting seems to work when needed. Target Next Enemy.. Partial success Target Enemy attacking me ... Works about half the time Face the target ... Usually works Tab key ... works when Target Nearest enemy fails to work. Target focus ... Not tested so far, well, I hit the keys during a Fate and nothing happened, probably because I'm not "tanking." Hotbar 1 for weapons choices ... OK after targeting success I really wish that Square Enix would provide a "non-retribution," practice scenario for "tanking," where players could go in, learn how to do it, practice, make mistakes, and get proficient, before going into a scoring situation. Well, that's not going to happen, so I'll concentrate on Fates and any other advice that turns up. I'll be searching around for a FFXIV "Novice" web forum site, if you know of one, I'd appreciate. Thanks much! The Mongoose

The other title: "I was an a--hole down in La Noscea." Hi, Character is Level 20 Gladiator and level 12 Archer. I recently transitioned from the Playstation to the PC with Keyboard and PS3 controller working in tandem. Using the keyboard and controller combo, I did well for several levels, beat up a lot of bad guys, solved enough quests to take Archer from level 5 to 12, with good success at doing well in fights and fates. Today, I seem to have lost the capability to fight bad guys. How I fight bad guys got me to level 20. I acquire the target, either by X on the controller, or F11 or he starts shooting me, or mouse clicking on the target. F11 has, until now, been the most reliable. As of today, solo fights became difficult to lock onto a target. Until today, F11 always worked, locking onto the nearest bad guy, then I watch my HP, beat him up, and win. But lately, when I know I'm in range, F11 does nothing. So, bad guy gets to beat me up. Fate, as of today, is much more difficult to get F11 to work, out of about a dozen attempts, either as archer or gladiator I might get one lock on. I did get into one fate, I was the only one there, and F11 worked perfectly, Later got into another fate with one other player, and F11 worked one time, and refused to work after that. Later, I got into another fate where I was the only player and F11 wouldn't work. Sometimes mouse clicking on the bad guy works, sometime, in the same fate, it fails. I'm watchful for error messages, like my level is too high or too low for a fate, and even when I'm not getting those errors, F11 usually doesn't work anymore. Confession time. Today, I got down in La Noscea and joined a 4 player group to enter a cave and beat up bad guys. So, I went in as Gladiator Level 20, and I ended up ruining the quest for 3 other players, made an ass out of myself. I hope the other players are reading this; I owe them apologies. I was standing around, hitting F11, pressing the X on the controller, Clicking on the bad guys, nothing. I managed to kill one bat, but the rest of time I was standing around pressing keys, getting right on the bad guys, and being worthless to fellow players. It was like all keyboard functionality to fight had ceased to work. F11 is supposed to always work; but even when I was bumped up right against a bad guy, it would not acquire the target. Finally one of the other players asked me to leave the game, and I had to log out. What I did was to become a nuisance and waste of time to other players. I am not here to ruin games for other players, my goal is opposite - to enjoy FFXIV and to help make it enjoyable to other players. My first step was to look around in settings, and I don't know what to look for. Odds are, I got sloppy, and did something to settings without knowing it. Therefore, I went to page 17 of the Killer Guide to Final Fantasy XIV, and I didn't do any good there. Next, I go here and look for a fix http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/ Nope. Sorry about all this rambling, I'm not going to enter into another group effort and risk ruining the event for others until I get everything that has to do with acquiring targets, to be dependable. Meanwhile, I'll concentrate on Level 12 Archer and work on bringing Archer up to parity with the Gladiator. There is something stupid I'm doing wrong, and I'll really appreciate any and all advice, and even brutal advice. Thanks much, for indulging this long winded drivel. The Mongoose

Update on the use of MotionJoy. I found out the hard way, MotionJoy got corrupted and I had to reinstall. This has to be done sequentially or things will go bad. 1. Install Boot Camp. All BootCamp is, is a formatter utility, but it won't work unless a Windoze boot DVD or USB Ram is present. While running BootCamp, Windows-7 X4 will give you an opportunity to format the target partition; do so, otherwise Windows 7 X4 can't install. Windows-7 X4 installs and becomes operational in it's partition. 2. Install MotionJoy, plug in the PS-3 controller when it tells you to. Under Profiles tab pick Playstation 3. This will fail. Go to the Install drivers tab. This will fail, so pick the 2nd option to install anyway. It should succeed here, then go back to the profiles tab and test the controller (vibrate test). MotionJoy is flakey, installing it first should make it slightly more reliable. Leave the PS-3 game pad plugged in throughout, don't even think about unplugging it, until after you do a Windows 7 X4 shutdown. 3. Install Razer Synapse, and let it update if it wants to. 4. Install the RealTek Audio driver, provided by Apple in one of the bootcamp folders. 5. Lastly, install FFXIV. When FFXIV starts up, it will ask you to calibrate your PS-3 controller, this indicates success. Do the calibration and know that MotionJoy can cause problems later on. Note: If, while your windows partition is active, you accidently unplug your PS-3 controller. MotionJoy gets corrupted and crap gets written back to disk, so you'll end up either doing a rull restore from backup or a full reinstall of everything. Soon as I get a chance, I'll upgrade Parallels, and see if FFXIV will install then. Cheers.

Current Status of Running FFXIV on a Mac The Macintosh Client by Lodestone Radio Status as of Sep 2013 - It works, it's free, there are some launch issues caused by the ESRB warning. Use of Crossover 12.5 Status as of Sep 2013 - Not yet compatible. Use of Parallels ver. 8.0.18100 Status of version 8.0.18100 with Windows 7 X4, FFXIV will not install to Windows 7 X4 under this version of Parallels. Higher versions of Parallels not yet tested. Update/Edit: Oct 1, Parallels 9, Windows 7 x4, and Realm Reborn are compatible. Use of VM Ware Fusion Status, Not yet tested Use of Virtual Box (Public Domain) Status, Not yet tested Use of Apple Boot Camp and Windows 7 X4 Status, Compatible. Boot camp can be a pain in the ass to install, and the drive you dedicate to Boot Camp needs to be in Bay 1 during the install, but you can move it to another bay afterwards. Remember that while in Boot Camp, the step to format the target IBM volume to NTFS, not Fat32. Apple's instructions are not clear about this. Do all this on another drive, I don't recommend messing with your primary boot drive. FFXIV installs to and runs perfectly under Windows 7 X4. Hardware: Use of the MotionJoy Playstation Gamepad Controller (public domain) in tandem with Apple Boot Camp and Windows 7 X4 Status: It works perfectly provided you use a high quality USB cable, and provided you follow all the MotionJoy instructions, not just half way. When you launch Realm Reborn and attempt the calibration test, it doesn't always work, but when you get into the game it works fine. You still have use of the keyboard and mouse. While using your playstation game pad plugged into USB port, don't let it accidently come unplugged, if you do you have to reboot and re-setup Motion Joy. [/color] Update Oct 1: Install Motion Joy first, after installing Windows X4, Achieve success with the Playstation controller. With each bootup of Windows X4, always launch Motion Joy and do the vibration test prior to launching Realm Reborn Use of the Razer Black Widow Gaming Keyboard in tandem with Apple Bootcamp and Windows 7 X4. Status: Compatible. Under Windows 7 X4, just install and run the upgrade. Caveat: If you use the Razer Synapse Mac driver on your Mac boot volume, use version 1.10.30. If you attempt to install version 1.13.01, you're in for pain and suffering. Version 1.13.01 will disable your finder and system prefs until you uninstall Synapse. Stick with version 1.10.30 and it works perfectly. On your Mac boot volume, you can remap the Command and Option Keys to where they belong. Yes, I did send a bug report to the Razer Corporation. Applicable system for this message: Mac 2.8Ghz Quad-Core, 16 Gigs Core Ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 (400 watts), Dedicated hard drive to Apple Boot Camp and the NTFS partition for Windows-7 X4. While running FFXIV, the GTX 285 spools up both fans on high, while it ramps up to full 400 watts. FAQ: Mongoose, why didn't you test Fusion and Virtual Box, and the newest versions, really, now, this is lame! Ans: There is this addictive game that's taking up my valuable Mac time, it's called FFXIV, Realm Reborn. FAQ: Mongoose, why didn't you test your Playstation Controller under bluetooth? Ans: Because I can't find my USB Bluetooth transceiver, and, on account of Realm Reborn, I don't have time to look for it. Reason for Edit: Added applicable system paragraph

Hi, Since I just made level-20 and don't yet know what "Garuda" is, upon reading about Garuda, this is what comes to mind... Garuda my brother was a Garuda captain, so there you are. Cheers
