  1. Just chiming in here. I play a character who can at worst be considered neutral evil, at best chaotic neutral. Personally being shiny good or cacklingly evil bores the hell out of me. Go too far to one extreme and that literally becomes all your character is, to the point where not always picking the morally sterling option would break your character's head. Erik for example is not a nice or really good person. He openly identifies as a Black Mage, works as a contracted bounty hunter and mercenary and has absolutely no problem with taking bribes or blasting an area into ashes with a spell. On the flip side, he's incredibly lazy, which inhibits his ability to actually be 'evil'. He won't go out and slaughter kids for kicks because he's not being paid and it's more effort than reading through his tomes or sleeping in a field. Furthermore, someone who likes luxury and comfort as much as Erik would be loathe to actively destroy the world or Eorzea. Why would he? All of his stuff is there! Good or evil aren't boring, but letting it be the one defining thing of your character is.
  2. Thanks for the info Erik's styled in the mold of mercenaries / destruction for hire in the vein of folk like Lina Inverse & the MacDougal Brothers, though he lacks the former's short temper and the latter's tendency towards coldness. Erik's more laid back, though his temper gets the best of him when sufficiently pushed, annoyed or his hat is touched.. As for how he approaches clients? Word of mouth, posting ads for his services on tavern walls, approaching people offering bounties or flat out opening a stall in the Ul'dah market and selling his services. Mind you, I have a backstory as to WHY he acts as a mercenary. It's not something as simple as flat, antagonistic greed.
  3. Hi all. Had a quick question I wanted to ask so I can get some opinions. Erik is a mercenary. A lazy, amoral and greedy mercenary/bounty hunter. He also happens to be a Black Mage, a fact which he tries to use to increase the amount he charges prospective clients when doing work. However, considering the Black Mage lore in FFXIV, would the normal response to Erik's claims of Black Mageness be: A) Laughter B) A nervous smile and backing away C) Kill the potentially dangerous lunatic
  4. Name: Erik Lossart Type: Anti Hero/Antagonist Specializations: Large scale destruction, intimidation, mercenary work, bounty hunting, the Dark Arts. Anything that doesn't require a large degree of stealth or suberfuge, which he regards as too much effort. Personality: Sarcastic, surly, lazy, greedy, amoral, arrogant, & fiercely protective of his hat. Best Suited For: Erik is a mercenary, one who openly advertises the fact that he's a Black Mage. Usually this is met with a nervous smile or outright laughter, considering he uses it to charge more for his services. The laughter dies however, when the scrawny man blows a hole in a fortress wall during a fit of rage. Erik's best use in antagonistic roles is as a contracted hitman or mercenary pursuer, though he isn't above bounty hunting if the coin's good. Can you kill my character: No, although he can be injured, bribed or fled from as the situation warrants
