1. Freshly updated! Please read all three tabs to get all the information behind us.
2. We don't mind alts joining so long as you're relatively active! Joining in for a few RP's a week is really all we ask from those that join us.
3. Also! Just wanted to say we very much appreciate the warm response from the community so far and we're hoping to continue building as much as we can. Thank you guys for helping making this something special.
4. Of course! The linkshell was made for people whom are happy in their free company already. We want to build a community that wasn't limited so by all means message me(Jagun Dotharl) in game and we'll finish talking about it there and get you in. Can't wait to hear from you in game!
5. Cataclysmic events and acts of mass devastation have a tendency to force one's hands in ways once thought unheard of or even unimaginable. Individuals may be forced to do things they wouldn't, adhere to things they normally wouldn't accept, and find themselves side by side with one's they may have once considered foes. The once nomadic and tribal Xaela-clans, forced into retreat and refuge from their beloved homeland, taking "residence" within Eorzea due to the attacks of the Garlean Empire. Such trial and tribulation brought the once strong people and tribes into a scatter, no longer holding true unity with their tribesman and kin. Instead the vast majority wander a new-land alone, forsaking their tribal ways and instead adapting to those new around them but in truth turning their backs on tradition. Through determination, despite many setbacks the regrouping of The Resolve of the Dusk persevered. Witnessing such acts first hand, the betrayal of tradition and honor by fellow Xaela ran rampant throughout the new lands. Those whom held what'd appear oblivious to their own people's way of life back upon Othard, to the very shame discarding such sacred rights brought upon not only them but those that came before them festered forth like a wildfire. Realization struck, words such as 'Unification' and 'Equality' were not something that held as important as 'Tradition' and 'Honor', sacrificing those two sacred elements of their people was something unforgivable to the Dotharl and Mankhad that lead their group. Watching so many others debase themselves, the way they all honored the Duskmother herself. War. Jagun Dotharl, the once proclaimed 'Guide' for his people's unity no longer cared for such concepts. Unification was unimportant in comparison to tradition. Though, a simple concept of bringing together the strength of the tribes and casting away their weaknesses was still his desire. Realization that not every Xaela was born equal holding a new reality but instead molding their people into a force that could take back that which was wrongfully ripped from them; Their home. With the difficult task set before them; they now turn to the lands of Eorzea searching for others whom would join their cause.... Those whom long to return home to Othard, those whom wish to honor the sacrifices of the fallen, those whom desire to maintain the way of their ancestors and people, and of course those who desire nothing more then to enact their vengeance upon the Garlean people whom forced such radical needs to begin with. Those are whom they seek to gather, the gesture of preservation under one War-band.
6. Hey again! I've also been looking around for a FC as of late and I've had very little success in finding an Ishgard-based FC. I've joined a couple different linkshells as well as asked around elsewhere so I figured I'd drop a quick thread on here to see if anyone has one or knows of one. Though I'm looking for one that holds more true to the way Ishgard is actually represented by the lore we have at our disposal and the like. The one or two I have found seemed to have strayed drastically from the overall feel that Ishgard holds. Thanks guys!
7. Responded in kind to you and a few others, Also still looking for fun stuffs to RP with people for anyone that may still be interested! Hit me up.
8. Hey guys! So I've been around for a bit and I haven't really noted many great places for an antagonist/villainous character to really excel within. I've tried joining a few random FC's here and there and it's been lackluster at best. (Mostly due to bad luck and lack of roleplay where I've been) So I've decided to write this out for this section of the forums and see what interest can be generated and what I can find as far as general interest in search for an antagonist-styled roleplayer. So, for anyone that's been searching for a good antagonist for a storyline or for those who just randomly come upon this link, click it and decide, "Hey...why not give this a shot?" I may or may not be your guy. Let me tell you about myself a little bit! I'm mainly a storyline kind've guy, I love reasoning, I love the tale that's being told by all involved, and I love getting as many people involved as possible in said story/ Though I like a natural progression behind it because if a story is -too- plotted, then it just becomes like reading a book, rather then an interactive story depending entirely on the choices of those involved. Everyone's characters are unique afterall, designing something that predetermines everything seems a bit...bland to me? I'd like everyone that comes to roleplay with me in time, to feel attached to the story in some way or another and feel like whatever happens in the roleplay, their characters really were able to do what -they'd- do, Not what other people OOCly dictated would occur. I'm generally up for a bit of everything really. One-on-One roleplays, group roleplays, minor storylines, major storylines, free company-wide storylines(I have a small group of friends that also enjoy antagonist styled roleplay, that'd come along with me for more larger scale designed storylines). The one thing I'm not really interested in is, one time roleplays because...Whats the point? It feels like a waste of your time and my own when we're creating something that'll be over in a single night. I suppose if there's a good reason for it, perhaps? But for the most part I tend to avoid one off roleplays that won't really do much of anything for your character or my own. To say a little bit about my character without spoiling every little detail...Ishgardian minor nobility that's currently left his House and the gates to pursue his own personal interests. He believes in wearing "masks"(To change one's personalty in order to better fit whom they're speaking with) to get what you want, entirely sociopathic in nature and when his true personalty arises, it grows far more sinister then that. Moreso instinctual then plotting, his thought process holds a lack of empathy or sympathy more times then not. A trained Dragoon, physically built for the task all those whom take the title are meant to do. If anyone's interested, leave me a message below or a PM here. I'll tell you a more thorough detailing about my character, you can tell me about your character and what you'd like to see. And we'll make something entertaining for all involved happen. Hope everyone had a good read at the very least!
9. The Linkshell: The Resolve is a medium to heavy freeform roleplaying group focused entirely on providing a good storyline to the Balmung community as a whole. We stand as an overzealous paramilitary brotherhood that sees itself as Ishgard's protectors from beyond the Gates of Judgement. The Resolve desires to bring back a sense of community outside of just sitting around taverns and player housing, to give it's members and those who join us a sense of something bigger in the world that we all love and enjoy. Our highest priority is telling a story to those who desire it, as well as a place for others to connect their own stories into the main plot and really make something memorable for everyone. Joining the Free Company, the Linkshell, or simply roleplaying with us from the outside is welcomed and encouraged. We want everyone to connect and have a place roleplaying within and of course outside of our guild. The Resolve of the Fury consists of three arcing constantly progressing storylines for the members to partake within: -Fight alongside your brothers-in-arms against the injustices and evil that they believe has stained majority of civilization. These men and women are zealots to their beliefs and cause, even by Ishgardian standards. They believe the only right way, is the Ishgardian way of thinking and anyone whom opposes such ideals are the likely root to a widespread corruption that is ailing the rest of the cities. Join your fellows in the Resolve of the Fury, hunt those who would see damage done to the lands around them, defend the ways the Archbishop has preached from beyond the Gates of Judgement, be the catalyst to change in these lands enveloped by greed and chaos. -The formation of the Resolve of the Fury, the conversion of the non-believers to the Ishgardian code. With such lofty aspirations and questionable goals, the Hounds of Judgement require much more firepower then just themselves. Recruitment into the paramilitary brotherhood has become one of the highest priorities to the three. However, while they stand with open arms to their fellows from Ishgard, it's become much more of a necessity to convert those of the other cities into their cause. Those who have been sealed outside the gates, those whom simply were never taught any better. They are the ones the Hounds wish to lead away from the ever-looming darkness. To teach and train these men and women, mentally, physically, spiritually and forge a new force to seek and destroy the many threats ahead. Of course such a feat holds a risky endeavor within itself, giving away their faces, names, and some of their locations to outsiders let alone attempting to teach outside cultures that their own beliefs hold wrong. With a constant tug-of-war ahead, progressing those who choose to live by their code by mind, body, and soul will remain a constant struggle, with the unknown lurking around every corner. -The one behind the Hounds of Judgement, The mystery behind it all. The three always appear to be in control of their own fates, whims, desires but is the truth really so black and white? Certain tasks seem off, certain targets may not fall under the category of corrupt. Yet the Hounds continue to partake in such missions. Those who earn their trust may see there is another after all, whom's 'requests' fall entirely out of their beliefs. Discover just who this man is admist the Ishgardian society and just why he has the Resolve going against their own beliefs for his own hidden agenda. However, the deeper one indulges within the unknown, the more dangerous the unknown becomes. Corruption exists in all forms, even in those who have sworn to vanquish it. Among many other future stories as the free company/linkshell progresses as a whole. In the end, we are very much an antagonist guild under the premise of belief in our cause. To those within the Resolve, we're doing an act of justice. To everyone else, we should likely appear as the villains. Recruitment is done in a case by case basis, personalized for each member that joins. If this is something that sounds appealing to you, Please feel free to contact me here or one of the following names in game. Malek Zhevalier Varmaut Zhevalier Brock Praetus
10. I'd be interested in joining, My in game name is the same as my forum name.
11. Thats not what I mean at all. Dang, I'm guessing this might not be what I'm looking for afterall. I'm moreso talking about oldschool freeform combat. I posted a link about it in the other thread, with a ton of rules towards it and what not. Dunno if you gave it a read through or not but I can post it again here if you're confused by what I mean! Oh my! I'm sorry! Sure, go ahead, post a link here or feel free to PM me. I hope I'm not just misunderstanding you. This is the link, Written by a few people whom have been doing freeform for years, the one who's deviantart it's under who helped write is also coming to the game soon. http://thetonyexperience.deviantart.com/journal/RP-Combat-Butt-Kicking-101-271544659 I see people might not enjoy this style over rolling or vice versa, Maybe there can be two seperate divisions or something? I'm one of those people who really enjoy strategy and such, so it's moreso for the challenge of testing myself as well as the IC aspect to it then just simply going into fights for the IC prospect. Like I said, I know thats not for everyone but I think so long as there are trusted people who're watching the fights anyways, they can easily OOCly ref them aswell to make sure everything runs smoothly and that there are no OOC fights that most people dislike with roleplay conflict. I've been doing it for a long time myself so, if you needed help with any of that, I know I can help. Oh, I did read this and enjoyed it. Let's see... Rule 11 is where I was pretty much hoping we were going. In the sense of 'when used properly...' To explain: I was only implementing the roll system for the events, to take the outcome based more off chance between people of roughly equivalent level of skills. It's more or less entirely what the ranking system is based off of. HOWEVER, there are plenty of people who enjoy free-form RP and I'm willing to cater to those people by allowing them to fight against one another in separate, equivalent events, if you -want- to gain prestige this way. All the training otherwise, sparring and what not, can be completely free-form. If there are going to be any disputes about who wins a fight, however, I'd have to ask for rolling simply because the two are having a lot of issues that could create a lot of out of character anger or frustration which may only be because their characters are on par with one another in their level of skill ICly. Some people might be more comfortable with using the rolling for events (and by events, I don't mean just the days we show up to spar with one another, I mean the events where you move up from Intermediate to Master where there will likely be prizes and gambling) and for those people, they can use the system and go by that rule-set. If there are enough people who are comfortable with free-form, and I'm an advocate of more people learning it and implementing it, to make sure that one person who does it isn't, by default, just moving up the ranks, then I'm completely okay with that and I'll edit the rules to reflect as much. Is that okay with you? @Oroban Yosh! Punchers do punch and we have a punching bag named Jael'li. --- I agree, papabadger, that free form is based on skill and rolling does take -some- skill out of the equation. I implemented the ranking system for people to fight others -of equivalent skill-. The problem I have is, if it's entirely free form then it takes the people to decide when to concede and stop trying to block, dodge, or counter attack. Where does it end? When one person takes a knock out blow or finally concedes defeat. This, to me, is perfectly fine all the time but it has a lot of frightful potential in -events- where there are -winnings-. If people start getting a little too ambitious, fights break out where one person is telling someone else that what they did isn't going to work for 'blah blah' reason. I can't fairly say that someone is going to lose based on how bad their grammar is, for instance, so 'skill' gets muddled. It takes the character with less skill to -act- as though they have less skill and that's assuming that everyone doesn't come in as a super-pro master. Another thing that I fear with free-forming with strangers is how long it can go on. I've had fights that lasted, literally, hours; so long that people by-standing got bored and walked off, then came back and were like 'Wow, you guys are still at it?'. It's hard to run an event that way if everyone's waiting for everyone else to finish their fight so that they can start and I admit, from personal experience, it's really easy to get caught up in 1v1 fighting and completely lose track of time. I want to try to to block as much of the OOC drama of fighting as humanly possible by setting up a general rule-set. I encourage people to get to the point where they can comfortably free form without the need of rolling or any extraneous decision-making detail-- but they have to learn first and rolls are a good way to start. A step away from rolling is, since you'd already be accustomed to knowing how and when to block, choosing to take the hits that you simply cannot defend against instead of going with the instinctual desire to preserve oneself by any means necessary even if it means bending your character into a pretzel that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. S'all I'm saying. I'm not saying rolls are better because they mean you're better, I know there's a level of chance involved and that's why I only intended to use it for people of relatively equal rank. So to reiterate-- if there are enough of you who want to only do free-form for events and official matches, that's perfectly fine with me and I'll add it to the rules. But do you really want to use that against someone who admits they don't know what they're doing or they're not yet entirely comfortable with their level of skill in combat RP? In an event, won't it slow you down to have to correct them and rewrite posts? Part of my hope for this is to see people doing -more- combat RP in all kinds of situations and I'd like people to eventually get to the point where they can free form without reservation or concern or fighting. Verbal. Fighting. Sorry, was doing a few Ifrit runs! Actually, the easiest way to avoid OOC conflicts with people trying too hard is to simply add an OOC ref to the match. Which means, if there is a dispute the ref will handle it for them. They can make the decision of what they feel is best, and the fighters would in association agree to listen to the person's ruling over their own pride. The only problem I see with that is finding people who would be unbiased and wouldn't side with people they like over what was correct.
12. Absolutely except in events. I would really rather not have people have to pick who is going to win, then let someone else win, and so on and so forth because it just doesn't sit well with me. Even in official sparring matches if both people agree to it not rolling and they know who they want to win, I suppose I can accept it. But not in events. Thats not what I mean at all. 14. Just to clarify, from what I gathered from the other post, Rolling is strictly optional right?
15. This is a good link  I too am a freeformer when it comes to combat Rp. And I do enjoy that link! I was doing a sage nod the entire time I was reading. The LS idea sounds great and I would love to be a part of it. My sentiments exactly. haha
