  1. Hi! I got the game not long ago myself, I think you'll enjoy it. That said, Balmung and Gilgamesh are both good choices! Gilgamesh is my main, and I have def seen RP going on as I've moved through certain areas. I started out in Limsa Lominsa, I caught scenes in progress quite a few times there. I'm still a baby so I'm just now branching out. Gilgamesh is quieter as far as events and number of linkshells go, but I've never had to wait in a queue to log on as I have with my Balmung alt. You may not even have to worry about that though, depending on when you're trying to log in.

    Hello!

Lol, hi! I'm fairly new to the game too, as well as the FF universe. I've only played, like. Crystal Chronicles and FFXII, which was pretty great. What do you think so far? Do you have a server/class in mind yet?
  3. I don't know how long you've been RPing, so this may be old news to you, but these are things I've learned and observed through my experiences. I hope it doesn't come off as preachy, and if these are things you already know, feel free to ignore! Maybe it'll help a passerby who's new to RPing. I think #2 depends entirely on what kind of player you are. If you're purely a reactionary player, you'll probably have a tougher time. But it's entirely possible to have a quiet character that drives a scene! My main, for instance, is also the quiet type. She's not hyperactive, peppy, or boisterously loud. However, she's very curious. She'll ask questions, pick up/touch things that aren't hers, or she'll react to something with notable body language that other characters can respond to. Quiet characters have a stigma because, ususally, they don't give their partners much to react to. When you're stuck with a partner like that, it's boring and hard to play with. The key is to provide substance. "If I got this from my partner, how could I react to it?" is a good question to ask yourself when you're typing up replies. It doesn't always work, as sometimes your partner will pass up what you think is an obvious hook, and that's fine. It happens. Still, you'll want to at least try to give your partner something to work with, and it's okay to fall back on introspection, body language, and facial expressions to clue you partner in to how your character is feeling. Even quiet characters will almost always have an emotional outburst at some point, whether good or bad, which can be good for a hook. Just avoid being the "sitting in a corner and brooding" type, because approaching a character that comes across as hostile/aloof/having a lot of emotional baggage isn't an appealing choice. For me, anyway. It's a tall order for a stranger to take on. You'll also want to evaluate how your RP looks. It seems nitpicky, but a clean appearance can actually work wonders. Something like Elise burst through door, announcing, "I made cookies for everyone!" She neglected to mention they were burnt. looks more appealing than Elise burst through the door........ she announced "i made cookies for everyone!!!!!" She neglected to mention they were burnt..... Aside from that, it's really just a matter of finding people you mesh well with. Get close to people OOC, they'll be more likely to RP with you. Don't just repeatedly ask them for a scene, because that can come off as pestering; get to know them, ask them about their characters, ask what they're doing or would like to accomplish with them. And like another user mentioned, a lot of RPers are shy and/or don't want to bother you. Or you run in to issues of flakiness. Considering many MMO players often have jobs, school, and/or children, that's not a surprise. You just have to keep on going until you find people that stick. It can take a while. MMOs have always taken me the longest to break in to. With all that said, I do have an alt on Balmung. If you want to try a scene with her, just drop me a line.
  4. Hit me up sometime while you're still on Gilgamesh! My favorite character is on that server. Even if her armor looks like a joke and she's still in the Limsa Lominsa area...
  5. All right! I'm glider.green on there. Very new to Skype as well, but it seems pretty straightforward.
  6. I'm going to finally try jumping in this! Is anyone specific going to be on today/this afternoon? If not I'll just try everyone listed in the OP until I find one that's online. Also, how's the Skype chat? Is it still alive?
  7. Oh no, I missed it! It looks like it was really fun, I'll keep an eye out for the next one for sure.
  8. I'm happy to put up with anyone and everyone! I'm the same way right now though; a different character's history just fell in to place without any effort, but Sib is being more difficult... I've got a handful of scattered ideas and traits, it's just putting them all together and building on them now. I'll have a couple days off after this shift today to work on stories and hit up some of you guys! I'll need to get in on that linkshell action for sure too.
  9. I'll keep an eye out for you! I guess Balmung can't be too bad in terms of old:new player ratio, the game isn't that old. Aw, thank you! She's probably my favorite so far, but I have to admit, it's hard to make an ugly pc anyway! Yesgood. Every day will be caturday. Great! I'll have to holler at you when I poke my nose in there! Will do!
  10. Thank you guys! I'm loving the cinematics too. It's really nice not having to read it all, since some of that text gets so tiny. Then again, that's what the internet is for, I guess! And I'd love to, Moxxi! I should have sucked it up and got my usbkb today, but I started playing "for a little bit", and well. That was that. But I'll have one soon. We can swap character details or whathaveyou in PMs in the meantime, if you'd like! I just found the character profiles in the wiki, and oh man. I so need to start making one of these.
  11. Thanks for the links! These seem like some good places to start, I've already found a couple helpful tidbits. I'm about 85% sure I will have another character on Balmung at some point. I'm actually undecided on whether I want to transfer one of mine or start a brand new one, but I definitely want to keep something on Gilgamesh too. Hopefully there are a lot of miqo'te I can chew the fat with on this server! I'd love to get some clan headcanons and interaction going on there... one step at a time. But yeah, I've always had a thing for an underdog. Plus I remember being on less popular RP servers in other games. Many a day was spent wistfully staring and grabbyhandsing at new players who jumped ship to join the primary server, haha. Baby come back... I can't deny that I'm a curious creature, though, so I'm going to have to snoop the main server.
  12. I'm the caboose! Idk. Hi, what's up. I just got the game a few days ago. I've been tinkering around on a couple different servers with a couple different friends, and through the magic of google, I found this place. Naturally, I made another character on the Gilgamesh server so I could get in on the action. Balmung looks like it may have a bit more going on, but it seemed a little intimidating. Either way, if you ever happen to see a tiny girl miqo'te bumbling around with the username Sib Cirha, that's me. She's still a newborn character and her story is actively being patched together, but I feel like I have a decent framework going on. I'm not very familiar with the FF universe so this is all fairly new to me, but I was all over some MMO RP back whenever I had a computer that could actually run MMOs. The concept is familiar at least! I'm playing on the PS3 and I feel like things are going pretty well so far! I haven't gotten myself a usb keyboard yet. Text communication will be painfully slow with me in the actual game for the next 24 to 72 hours. But that's okay, because I'm still in the hideously embarrassing learning stage of pushing all the buttons at not necessarily the most appropriate of times. I'll probably be all over the forums to make up for it anyway. I've already lurked and read quite a bit already, so I'm feeling a little more comfortable navigating around here. As for me, I'm 26, I live in the midwestern chunk of the USA, and I work many a strange flip-flop shifts, meaning my gaming hours will be odd. Other than that, I'm flying solo on the Gilgamesh server. I may be pestering some of you pretty hard whenever I get all the kinks worked out, because I'm sure I'll get lonely once I run out of buttons.
