  1. You invite a friend over to your house for the afternoon. Describe what your friend would see upon entering your home. "Ah, well you see... my home is actually quite mobile. My friend would be aboard my airship the Fatewind. Within my captain's quarters he or she would see various curios I've uncovered around the world displayed along the walls. They would also quickly notice the very large map of Eorzea, littered with pin tacks and string and notes, plastered on the wall behind my desk. Upon my desk they would notice a globe of Hydaelyn. If that friend were to take a closer look at the globe they would notice some charted islands not found on any map they've seen before. They would also notice the cluttered mess of paper and books across my desk. A rather large bookshelf filled to the brim off to the side of the room would certainly catch their attention." During the casual small-talk that ensues, your friend asks you if you have read any good books lately. How do you respond? "Ah yes! Funny you should ask. I just finished reading '1001 Ways to Prepare the Dodo bird'. It presents some very interesting ways to serve that tasty avian." Your friend eventually leaves, and you're still bored. Restless, you leave the house and set out for a walk. Describe the neighborhood you live in. "Yes, like I've mentioned before, my airship is my home. My 'neighborhood' changes quite often. However, my most acquainted neighborhood is the open sky. There are days where the sun shines bright and not a cloud in the sky, then there are days when it's covered in grey and violently stormy." Oh no! An orphan is in trouble! Down the street from where you stand, a small street urchin is being bullied by three larger youths. What do you do about it? Levonche slightly winces at the hypothetical situation, "Well, I would certainly approach, calling out to them as I drew near. If that wasn't enough to scare them off I would prop the poor child in question onto my shoulders and proceed to admonish the three bullies. Hopefully my scolding put some sense into them. I'd then offer the child a life aboard my airship, an informal adoption so to speak. If the child declines, I'd give him or her enough gil to survive for quite some time." Adventure time! The next day, still restless, you decide that what you need is a good change of pace. How do you pack for your four-day road trip to Ishgard? Levonche chuckles, "My friend, I travel in style. My airship the Fatewind could get me there within the day." With a smug grin he says, "Since my airship is my home, I wouldn't need to pack!" Along your journey, you spot some bandits waiting at a bridge across a wide but slow moving river up ahead of you. They haven't seen you yet. You need to cross the bridge to get to where you're going. How do you handle the situation? "Hmmm..." Levonche says with his hand on his chin. "A hypothetical within a hypothetical... alright, let's say I didn't have the Fatewind and I came across this situation. As I approached the bridge, my stride would not change, but my hands would be near my hora in preparation for a fight. If I sense no aggression as I grew near I would politely greet them as I passed by. If they tried anything funny..." a smirk suddenly streaks across his face, "let's just say I would have some fun that day." You have just arrived for the first time in a new big city. Where do you go first? "The tavern! And then to any fine dining the city may have. Then I would visit the culinary guild to try and find tasty recipes to add to my collection." For being the 1,000th tourist to the city, you have been given a 6,000 gil voucher to spend as you like at the Ishgard Department Store (think FFXIV version of Macy's). What do you spend it on? "Hmm... a modest sum. I suppose I would purchase all culinary equipment unique to Ishgard and every cookbook they have to offer. If there is any gil remaining, I would spend it on fine clothing. Perhaps a very expensive and elaborately fashioned leather jacket." All of that shopping has made you deliriously hungry. What sort of food establishment do you seek out for lunch? "I would treat myself to the finest dining establishment Ishgard has to offer and order the special of the day with an expensive bottle of wine." Five months later and safely back at home, you realize the Winter Festival is approaching! What sort of present do you pick out for your mother (or nearest living relative, or closest friend)? "A finely fashioned ornamental greatsword. She would certainly appreciate that."
  2. RL info RL Name: Stephen Jones RL Age: 24 Country: North America Timezone: PST RL Gender: Male Occupation: Graduate Student (Computer Science) --Why do you like to RP? I like to RP because it provides a richness to the online gaming experience. It's something that can't be achieved with a console RPG. Online we have the opportunity to interact with other like-minded individual and inject content into the game environment. Whereas on the console, you follow the path laid out by game designers following a predefined path of the character's role you are forced to portray. Some games provide a lot of freedom, but pales in comparison to RP interactions that can happen online in an MMO setting. Basic info --Characters: Levonche Witmer --Current primary linkshell: Not Thieves RP Preferences: --RP style (light, casual, moderate, or heavy)? I'd say I'm a moderate to heavy RPer. I tend to write pretty lengthy backstories and try to connect myself to the lore as much as possible. I like to stay in character as much as as I can. I'm still a little new to the MMO RP scene, my emoting could use some work. However, when it comes to acting in character, I get pretty immersed and try to keep the OOC talk to a minimum. This is a game though, so progression is necessary. When I can stay in character AND progress in the game, I'm a very happy person. But I know sometimes a line has to be drawn between the two, or maybe a temporary break in the RP veil to get the progression ball rolling. --Are you willing to RP a fight scene in game? If so, preferred method of combat? (/randoming, skill based, etc) It would be cool to do, but if this were to happen I think a system would have be set up in advance. Maybe /randoming with modifiers, like adding hand-to-hand skill to the random roll. Something akin to a d20 system. --Are you willing to take major injuries in game? (ie limb loss, comas, etc.) RPing a limb loss would be kind of hard to keep IC in the game, as you visually can't lose an arm. However, I wouldn't mind being an a coma for awhile or suffering a few scars. --Under what circumstances, if any, would you allow your character to be killed off? Probably never. Although I do highly value RP, this is also a game. I don't think I could reroll a character from scratch to make an RP death believable. Now, if I had nothing to do with my life I would have no problem having a character die off and reroll another. But alas, my free time to play this game is limited, so losing days of playtime in a character is unacceptable. --Are you willing to RP romance in game? How far are you willing to go? I would be uncomfortable RPing a romance. Even though it would be considered acting and ultimately unreal, I'd feel uneasy about it. I would have no problems with flirtation though. --What kind of non-romantic RP relationships are you seeking? (family ties, etc) Any and all kinds. A friendly rivalry would be pretty cool. Family ties would also be nice. Really anything that can provide more immersion and connectivity in the game would be welcomed; having backstories intertwined and related is always a cool thing to me. Putting a real life RPer behind a character in your backstory is always fun. --How far from the actual lore are you willing to stray? I'm willing to stray far enough to accept slightly different explanations for racial origins or creating new (small) locales and such. The character I plan to RP is actually Half-Elezen. Although there are certain expectations for a race, not all individuals within the race must act the same. Depending on how you were raised in your backstory will ultimately determine the character you RP. Basically anything the doesn't put too much strain on my ability to sustain my disbelief is alright with me. --Views on chat functions (IC vs OOC in /party, /linkshell, /say)? One should always be IC with /say, there's almost no reason not to be. /linkshell should mostly be IC depending on the level of RP the linkshell partakes in. When OOC in /linkshell it should be denoted as such. /party depends completely on the party. If it's with a bunch a non-RPing strangers, I would turn my RPing switch off and pump out the progression the party is most probably seeking. If the group is full of RPers, I would much prefer to be IC. Some OOC may be necessary to get coordination going, but if it can be done IC it should be. There's nothing better than RPing while progressing in the game at the same time. --Will most of your RP be confined in a single linkshell or will you try to RP with as many as possible? I'm sort of a single linkshell kind of guy, but my RPing will not be confined to it. I will be IC in all matters of play unless OOC talk is needed or requested. --How do you prefer to be contacted? (PM or post in this thread) PM preferably. Unless the reason for contact would benefit from public viewing, then a post in this thread will be fine.
