  1. I also, like a few others, misunderstood the implications of your post. To me, it looked like a slap on the wrist. I do not need to calm down because I am not riled up, and I didn't mean to make it seem like I was. My post may have seemed like a bit of a rant, but I simply like to make posts detailed sometimes, and I might have gone off on a bit of a tangent. This was a statement. However, you have just recently clarified it. But this is why I responded like I did. One of his first posts on this forum site, and he gets a response post that seemed to me like a slap on the wrist. I am glad I didn't get that kind of reception when I first started posting here. Then again, you just seemed to clarify that your intent was not to attack him in any way? I am glad I just simply misunderstood.
  2. Um, what do your character's in-game stats/gear quality have to do with your supposed IC 'mercenary prowess'? Using game mechanics and character level to denote IC power and/or experience typically raises some flags. Are you saying that if you were 20-30 levels lower, or didn't have a +1 Relic, that you wouldn't be as strong or credible ICly? Sorry, but it doesn't seem to me that he is saying that. "OTHERWISE". In other words, if someone needs help with the game and not just from an RP standpoint. In this case, we would need to at least know his stats and level. I don't think his stats have to make him more credible ICly, but if I want to RP with him in a high-level, dangerous area then I would need to know that he is a high enough level to survive there. Why would I RP with him in a dangerous area? Because, for me at least, staying in Central Shroud and pretending its (Insert very dangerous zone here) would feel kinda silly. Unless, the players were simply acting out a personal scene that they didn't want interrupted. However, a mercenary to protect my lvl 21 from little ladybugs is just boring. Again, that is just my opinion. I would wager that there may be others that feel the same way. I don't believe game mechanics and RP have to be mutually exclusive. Whats to stop me from RPing my lvl 21 Thaumaturge as an elite Spirit Warrior from another planet? Lore? Nothing in the lore says we can't have space aliens. And if he was from another planet, why couldn't he be a spirit warrior? Because no one else is? No one else is a lesbian, Lalafell-phobic, Roegadyn. But would something like that be discouraged because it isn't normal or typical? Notice one example goes beyond the game mechanics while the other doesn't. Maybe M'raj is just using the game mechanics as a guideline for his RP. No worse than using lore IMO because lore in this game is often vague (I had to manufacture a clan for my Keeper that does not exist in the lore because the lore does not specify names of Keeper clans). The way I see it, he is just showing that his character is a kick-ass ICly and OOCly. Nothing wrong with that if he isn't being arrogant or cocky. I don't see any of that in his post.
  3. Cool idea. I think I've seen your character around in-game. If I can think of a reason to ever need help, I will keep you in mind.

    Hello all!

Welcome, I'm quite new to RP as well, so if you ever see me in the game, send me a tell or something. I can maybe help you get comfortable with RP because, as a newbie myself, I wont judge.
  5. Thanks for clearing that up a bit everyone. Well that's mostly all that my character saw. He was too young to be in the battle. For now, I am RPing him as being in Black Shroud during the calamity, which was apparently the most heavily devastated place in Eorzea. However, there are details like who was lost, what he was doing, and how specific people reacted that I want him to remember. I also want him to know that it was Bahamut that caused all of it.
  6. Ok, this is probably a stooopid question, but are we supposed to ICly know what happened during the calamity? Now that I have talked to several NPCs in the main story, I see that everyone seems to have forgotten the details of the calamity. I am confused because many of the NPCs will mention something that happened then state that they do not remember something else. What are we supposed to have remembered and what should we have forgotten? For example, are we ICly allowed to know that Bahamut caused the calamity? I have my character's back-story set up to where he vividly remembers where he was, what he was doing, and what happened during the calamity. Is this acceptable in reguards to the lore? If not, I have some re-writing to do
  7. Tsk! SE is racist against their own created race! Are Miqo'te ONLY to be their hawt cat people? I call for a march on..... Where is SE headquarters?
  8. Unfortunately, I am on Balmung, so I wont see you in-game. However, I welcome you to the forums. Feel free to post questions anytime. This community is very active and helpful.
  9. Hi and welcome to the forums. I last played in GW2 as well. Didn't find much of an RP community there. A LOT of RPers seem to be shy. I am kinda shy myself. It is hilariously frustrating when you have a bunch of RPers running around who are too shy to start RP with each other. I must say, you are brave to share the fact that you are a male who Role Plays female characters. I wonder how many other Role Played female characters out there are actually male players as well? This game is definitely good if you want to make a female character. You are pretty much guaranteed to make eye-candy LOL. Also, the wiki is a good place to research the lore. I recommend you do so because this game has a lot of deep, interwoven lore and history. At least consider learning the lore of the race you choose your character to be. You might be tempted to make a Miqo'te because they are, well, awesome! However, be warned that there are loads of Miqo'te already out there, and there are a lot of females. Not that I am complaining; the more the merrier . I am just saying you should do what you can to make yours unique-looking.
  10. My character was a legendary mage; until he got shot in the knee. Now he makes a modest living selling wooden carvings of chocobos to children.
  11. Do you find it hard to RP your character sometimes? So far, I'm finding it hard at times to RP a character who might be similar to yours in some ways.
  12. I would be willing to join. However, I am a weekend warrior when it comes to work, so I probably wont be able to get on tonight or tomorrow. Monday is the soonest I will be on; as long as they don't have any more freaking maintenance! Ill find you on eventually Gray. I will do a search every so often when I'm on.
  13. Erik Mynhier Sultansworn, Immortal Flame, Captain of The Red Wings, and one seven-hells of a complication. Check out his story of awesome heroicness and Hulk Smashing here.
  14. Thank you for all the responses guys and gals. All very helpful. So far its looking like emoting at the characters may be my way to go, if they seem clearly receptive then I can try to jump in. If it is unclear then an OOC tell will be the way to go. I've been thinking; if I said something simple like "((may I join in?))" then that shows very little personality, so I wouldn't have to worry about it being jarring, shifty or awkward.
  15. Is there a specific minimum level we would need to be to help out?
  16. Hmmmm, what kind of magic, can you be more specific? Does your friend need something/someone burned, destroyed, put to sleep, frozen blasted, Aeroed(?), poisoned, buried, dug up, expelled, expunged, exorcised, obliterated, annihilated, ect? Or do you more need a healer type that can cure, heal, treat, mend, soothe, regrow, ect? There is also the type of magic that can summon cute things that can make your friend go "dawwwwwwww".
  17. Tsk! You're going to have some competition for the title of "The Gentleman Cat" bub! Haha, but welcome, good to see a new Keeper of the Moon entering the community.
  18. Ah, as far as your any inclination towards RP would have went, I have only RP'D K'nahli twice in-game. That how seldom the chance comes around. Add to that four or five forums topics and you have the totality of all her RP experience. She is still stuck in Sagolii. Ul'dah is the furthest she has ever ventured. Are you saying that wasn't you, or you weren't IC? My memory could be wrong; I think I had some whiskey that night. Anywho If it was you, you did stop and turn towards me. Maybe you OOCly saw me as familiar and wanted a double-take? Tobias, Ansemaru, my character is not the Koolaid man, nor is he an armored titan..... But I wanna try that! See how it works! Thanks! LOL
  19. Speaking of random encounters. Days ago I was in an airship landing (The Gridania one I think) and I just happen to be on the phone but still watching my computer screen. Suddenly, I saw you K'nahli! Your character turned around and looked at my character for a while. I was like "[sarcastic] perfect timing" to myself. Would have been a chance to RP, but I didn't know how long I was going to be on the phone and I would not be able to multitask RPing and phone conversation at the same time. In hindsight, I should have set my status to AFK, but didn't think of it at the time. Anywho, I like the idea of trying emotes because I don't like sending tells unless I have to. Not that I can't see how OOC tells can be useful for making things much more clear. I will have to think about it.
  20. How does everyone feel when you are having a one on one IC conversation with someone and another RPer suddenly joins in? In a few instances, I saw a couple of people talking and wanted to join their conversation because they were arguing a topic my character would be interested in. I could just send them a tell, but who would I send it to? Both? What if one says yes and one says no? It also kind of ruins the spontaneity of the moment to ask first in a tell. Also, my OOC personality is quite different from my IC personality. Aren't first impressions important to an extent? If I approach like "Heya! Can I join your convo?" then become "Greetings.....sun-cats; I could not help but overhear you discussing tribal traditions, and I must interject" then it would be awkward (IMHO at least). I also don't like shifting personality gears so much. My brain starts to get confused. What would y'all do in that situation?
  21. Wow, loving all the responses. Nako, your character must be psycho with an aura of awesome.
  22. Hello Gray. I can certainly understand at least some of what you're talking about because I have similar circumstances. I don't know yet if I would classify myself as a light, medium or hardcore RPer. I need a lot more practice, more experience and more improvement (I am often hard on myself when it comes to writing). I am shy in-game so far because I am still new to RP. That is why I try to break out of my shell a bit on this board. The last FC I was a part of didn't work out for me. I left the FC and decided to get my character to at least level 40 before trying to join another FC. However, I still want to continue to develop my RP skills, so I will still be willing to meet with people to RP, and RP random encounters and whatnot. My point is: I understand, and if you don't mind RPing with someone who is a bit new to it, you can look me up, in the game, anytime.
  23. You lurked for a month? Jeez you're lurkier than I was. I couldn't hope to match your lurkiness. Welcome to the board!
  24. Hi. Be my friend? Haha just messing. Welcome to the board. I think I am becoming kind of a site goofball which is quite opposite of my intense and often serious character. Good to see another RPer who is serious about the lore joining the server.
  25. To bad you're not on Balmung, I would practice RP with you. Well, welcome to the board
