  1. Consider how many people show up at the Grindstone every week, I'm going with quite a few. I'm just of the opinion that RP battles take a major backseat. Doesn't seem fair to say that wanting to be a WHM equates to wanting to be powerful. It's a FF WHM for Heaven's sake, lol. It has a very specific theme. I personally had the idea for a WHM who was highly reluctant to use magic - let alone white magic - and lived his life as a secluded, surly carpenter. I'd have never thought so many people would think badly of it, though. I say people should compromise but the more I think about it the more I'm inclined to rewrite the character as a THM and call it a day. Then I'll pray that THM gets Necromancer as a second job. And then I'll pray that I don't end up in the same situation of another job being THE CHOSEN.
  2. I didn't say you can't RP as the savior. You can RP as the savior. It is not against lore. It's just going to be widely seen as obnoxious. You probably see RPing as WHM the same way. That's fine, but the game actually gives you a lore reason as to how you, the player, have become a WHM. My original response to you was explaining that as opposed to being WHM or the Savior of Eorzea, we players have no lore for being a Padjal. So regardless of our views on any of these matters (and whether you agree that these story elements should count as lore backing for players or not) there -is- a distinction there. Mm, I find it a little strange that people would question why anyone wants to be these jobs or not. Some of us have been longtime fans of the FF series. I remember first playing as a Dragoon back when I was kid in Japan living with my dad in the military. FF has been with me for a long time and many jobs are iconic staples of the series. WHM is the same, and in many games White Magic has been something utilized by jobs that are not specifically White Mages. It is very much sentimental and as with all things will matter more to some than it does to others. Do many people really care about "RP Fighting"?
  3. I wouldn't compare being the savior of Eorzea to being able to play as an actual job given to us in the game that is a necessity for high level play. My point is that classes/jobs should be RPed freely. Not much more to it. Some people would rather not make any distinction between the two and that's understandable. For any individual that wants to RP as any job, all that really matters is how we handle it when RPing with others.
  4. Okay, sure. She can. Anyone can do anything. But it makes her a hypocrite and makes what she says less believable, because she's trying to have it both ways. Either the Lore matters, or it doesn't. But if you are in the camp that says, "Nope, Lore doesn't matter," you can't really throw stones when someone is making weird with the Lore. Though I suppose you could be like, "Hey, I thought that was like, a no-no cuz of Lore," but I think Sounsyy pretty much explained it. I think the distinction that's being made here is "look, if I can actually BE this in the game, then I can be this in roleplay". Being a white mage in roleplay does not inherently break lore. At least not on an individual basis. The existence of multiple WHMs breaks lore. What's happening here is people are discussing how to deal with a job that is permitted by lore, yet at the same time is restrictive to the roleplaying community. You cannot, however, be a padjal in the game. No two ways about it. And I will say that I am firmly in the camp of "If I can BE it, I can RP it". It's not hypocritical at all because it's not based on the idea of breaking lore or not, but rather making compromises when necessary in lore when it is not being friendly to the community, but never stepping outside of what the game actually allows. Mind you I'm just explaining the position. I personally could care less if someone did actually step outside of game mechanics and RP as a padjal. If that's what works for them, then great. Most of all I think people should keep in mind that this isn't really a matter of breaking lore so much as it is a matter of creating consistency within a community. Adhering strictly to the lore for widespread consistency would force a lot of people to refrain from RPing as something that the game actually allows them to be. Which, imo, is ridiculous. The fact of the matter is that it will remain divided because some people will think it's ok, others will not. I believe the best we can do individually is just try to respect that and not be obnoxious about our opinions and/or roleplay. Want to be a WHM? Great! RP with people who will accept your job. Outside of your circle it may be best to leave the topic by the wayside. It's just one of those situations that will ultimately be about give and take.
  5. I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all. I believe it largely depends on your approach in RP. To state my personal preference, I like for my character to either be involved in some way or be affected. Does my character possess the echo? Yes. Has he fought a primal? Yes. These aren't things I'm throwing in the face of people I RP with, in fact it has yet to be mentioned at all. When it comes to things such as Operation Archon, I'm actually in the process of piecing together his actual involvement. For example, he is a former strategist for the Immortal Flames, and I'm thinking that he might have been recalled to active duty for the operation. I don't see why anyone would have an issue with participation of that sort. If someone else wants to claim that they were an adventurer who fought Ultima... fine then, that's totally cool. The only place I would personally draw the line is claiming to have been in the actual place the player is in the storyline, being the Ultimate Hero of the main events. I just don't see it as feasible for any one RPer to call that role for their own. I do think it's good to be considerate of the community, after all.
  6. Hello there, been lurking on this website for a while now and finally decided to create an account. I'm fairly new to the game and I'm currently only level 28 so once I'm a little further along I'll apply officially. For now I wanted to state my intent and just put my name out there. I think this group looks really awesome and would be perfect for my little guy! Hopefully I'll be seeing you all around.
