  1. Thanks for reaffirming. I've actually been putting a whole lot of thought into why Renha is named the way he is since deciding on it. Identity crisis wooo. Without getting too much into detail, what I came up with is that a child born to a Keeper mother and raised in a traditional Seeker setting would likely be fairly ostracized from the rest of his tribe. When he gets old enough to understand why, he casts off the title of "Tia" and all the responsibility that comes with it, and takes on his mother's family name instead - paying respect to his lineage and toward the woman who'd loved him most.
  2. Thanks for bumping this and thanks for replying. That was an endlessly interesting read -- this coming from a lamen. The bit I highlighted is something I've been struggling with, too, since rolling a Seeker male. I liked the slitted pupils and the warmer skin tones. As you can see by his surname I also settled on "F that," and am currently brainstorming ways I can make it work lore-wise for my character. A Seeker/Keeper mix seems like the most obvious explanation, but hell.
  3. Sail is not an affectionate person. She would have to feel very, very close with someone -- which is unlikely enough to start with -- just not to up and leave.
  4. The weather in Eorzea sure is fickle... these were taken within two minutes of each other! Obligatory "sunrise over Thanalan" screenshot: And to quote Clover's (adorable) series of screens: "And then... it rained."
  5. B-but... that's just not fair! All excellent choices so far -- the FFII remix had me grinning ear-to-ear as well. One more from me. Another cool fanmade cover, the boss theme for dungeons!
  6. As is often the case with the Final Fantasy series, I'm loving the soundtrack in XIV. It's super atmospheric. I'm curious to hear what others think of it. Share a track that stands out to you and tell us why? As for me, I'm not too far into the main story yet, but of all the songs that I just had to stop for a few minutes to enjoy, this one here is the one that stuck with me the most. It seems to really carry a different tone from a night in Gridania or Limsa Lominsa. For me, it was just too perfect. Lazily wandering around the city for the first time and feeling dwarfed by it's scale. It's both contemplative and calming, but also almost surprisingly melancholy. It made me feel nostalgic and -- probably only in-character -- a little homesick. If you care for one more (from a different game) it really, really reminded me of the first time I happened to be playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf at 7PM, and the way this song took me off-guard and made me feel. Anyway, I thought this might be nice -- go on and share your own standout tracks.
  7. I'm pretty sure I caught a snippet of that scene. I actually plopped down on the bench beside you two and watched for a couple google-searches before going on my way -- brava! As for lessons learned today, Gridanian mushrooms: not even once.
  8. Welp, I just joined this community. Haven't even started on a wiki page or anything yet. Buuut L'renha is currently skulking around Old Gridania, people-watching.
  9. Your name makes me ever-so-slightly uncomfortable, but that's nobody's fault but my own. I'd like to say I get that a lot. Thank you for the welcome! Up nawwwth. I'm in Maine, too. On the coast. All the delicious lobster I can handle. And thank you thank you! Looking forward to being more active in-game and 'round here. Trying to piece together something resembling a backstory at the moment.~
  10. Howdy folks, New Englander here! I got FFXIV just a few weeks ago and figured I'd migrate from Diabolos over to Balmung after finding this neat little community. I've got nearly a decade of collective RP experience on various MMOs -- mostly into heavy IC time and long story arcs. Eating up all the lore I can and very excited to build my character up and be a part of what you guys have created! http://i.imgur.com/qimgSzi.jpg[/img] Cheers!
  11. Well, of course: dmcgrU0VZSk
  12. We had the same idea... almost.
  13. Morning folks! This'll be my second post on the RPC forums and my second day playing FFXIV, so I'm still piecing things together over here. I did figure out taking screenshots, though! I will justify my touristy snapping-of-photos and affinity for selfies as "character building" and "inspiration finding." I only have a vague imagining thus far of whom I want my character - and what I want their story - to be, and I'm not even sure if this specific character will be a permanent fixture in my own RP. Needlessly long-winded explanations aside: please enjoy these photos of Sail with and without her new friend Carbuncle!
  14. Yup! I had intended to go to Radio Shack or something to get a cheap USB keyboard today, but unfortunately I live in Maine and it's blizzarding today. Probably better to gain a general understanding of gameplay, emotes and such before jumping in anyway, I suppose. Haha. Thank you for all your help!
  15. The prospect of Warriors of Light running around is kind of interesting to me, so I think I'll be joining you in Balmung - thank you! I'll likely be keeping to myself for the first few levels, since I'm playing on the ps3 and haven't acquired a keyboard yet, but I am excited to see how this goes.
  16. Good morning/afternoon/evening! This should be pretty interesting. I've been a longtime (about 8 years and counting) member of various para-RP communities, leaning more toward straight writing and the interweaving of stories, but I've always wanted to try something a bit less structured like RP in an MMO. Final Fantasy XIV looked pretty amazing, so I picked it up recently. By level five I found myself wondering if there might be an active roleplaying community for the game - perhaps a roleplay world? - and, well, here I am. If you folks have any advice for someone as green myself (having literally owned the game for two days AND having to share the friggin' TV) I'll eagerly accept it. Thanks!
