  1. I am certain we'd be happy to help with any of that! Do you have Skype? You're welcome to add me on there as well (mippachan) since I'm not in-game until I get home from work. As for the linkshells, it really depends on the LS and the FCs. For example, Driftwood Coast has two linkshells and a Free Company. The main LS chat is for OOC, the Tavern LS is for "in person" RP and is IC only, and the FC chat more or less functions as an IC linkshell for all its members. With PhoenixRising, my mage linkshell, it's more or less an IC linkshell. If we *do* have to go OOC with a question, we either take it to a /tell or ask in parenthesis ((usually double like this)). Ahh, I don't have skype (Laptop is very slow ) but thanks for the offer! In terms of Heavy-RP I swapped over to Balmung, but I'm still active on my Gilgamesh character. I've learned a little more about LS's since I started, but so far haven't really 'looked' for good ones I guess. I'll be checking out Drift Coast later on tonight as well By the way, if any of you see me running around in Balmung, feel free to say hi! His name's Laurentius Vexen.
  2. I. Basic Info Characters: Laurentius Vexen Primary character: Laurentius Vexen Linkshells: N/a Primary RP linkshell: N/a II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy Roleplay is the way to go. I've been forum Roleplaying since I was 10 years young, and it eventually evolved into MMO Roleplaying (Thanks to the old WoW RP servers). From then on in, every time I pick up a new MMORPG, I've always checked if there was an active RP community within the game. Sadly, I've seen a lot of games that have an amazing Roleplay potential literally have no RP community whatsoever. If you've ever played an MMO called Mabinogi, you most likely know what I'm talking about. I like to try and play IC as much as possible, even when questing and leveling. I am constantly building a Background for him, every event shaping or changing him in some way. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't stick with a set plot. Rather, the exact opposite actually. Open World RP (How to initiate a RP with me): If you see me when I'm questing, running around the city, sitting back and having a drink, or whatever it is I'm doing, go ahead and send me a PM or just start RP'ing. Whether you want to introduce yourself, go on an adventure, wish to cook me some food or vice versa, whatever it is, I'm always open to random Roleplay. Types of RP (Horror, School, Entertainment): Personally, I enjoy all types of Roleplay out there, with the exception to School RP (Had enough of that when I was younger, haha). As long as you're planning on having an ongoing story/plot, I'm good with it. I'm not interested in short RP's with different characters every time. I prefer building my character(s) according to the events that occur to him, his friends, relatives, or even a lover. Simply put, be able to maintain a good time and don't revise everything the next day. Views on RP combat and injuries: I've always been the type to enjoy a good RP fight, especially with injuries. Now, nobody likes having there character killed off, so that's a give in (unless we talked about it). That being said, I don't enjoy the "dueling" idea that's been growing. I prefer using your mind and going off a 1 post per person type of thing instead of the classic "/roll" battles, but, in some scenarios, the /roll battle is needed. Also, nobody likes someone who never gets hit and/or has a counter for everything. If neither I, nor the person I'm fighting, can agree on a final champion, we'll figure out a way to have a draw or something. Views on IC romance: A little romance in an RP can spice things up a lot, cause internal conflicts to add to the plot, or even bring a little comic relief or a break from a tense time in the story. Whether it's a continued relationship created by two individuals on the side, or added during the story for a change, it can really bring in a different mood and feel to the RP. I've had a couple IC relationships and they're also a great way to make changes to your character that you couldn't have made before. Such as emotional breakdowns/breakthroughs, different views on assorted things thanks to your significant other, and lots more. Just keep it IC and not OOC. Things can get a bit messy if you don't watch it. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I love the idea of RP'ing with family members, good friends, etc... I was actually looking to find a brother and couple of good friends that could be thrown into Laurentius's history and background. Normally, as the two players RP with each other more, there's a kind of chemistry that builds and can really help a Roleplay to take off. Views on lore: Personally, I love the lore in most games. It helps shape the character and usually isn't all that hard to find and understand (usually...). However, unless there's a really big problem with what I've done or how I've constructed my character, I'm not to much on following it word by word, piece by piece. Lore can also help to open up conversations with other players, such as the war 5 years back. It opens up new conversations and ways to meet people per-say. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I've never actually heard anyone explain how the /linkshell can be incorporated into RP while following the lore, but I guess I don't mind using it if the person has an elaborate scheme or explanation of how it works. I've always preferred public RP in the /say , /e , /emote category, compared to keeping it just in /party or /fc . However, if you'd like to contact me about joining your RP LS or something, I will not object. I look forward to seeing you in the future. III. 3. So, just made a new character on Balmung. Laurentius Vexen. If you'd like to help me on my grind, or RP sometime, or wish to talk about helping create the FC, contact me.
  4. And one of the first things to discuss. Would it be a better idea to start this on Balmung? I'd have to restart from scratch and everything, but is the RP community really better there?
  5. Hello there again my fellow roleplayers! Today I come to you with an idea. Now before we start, as I was searching through the threads, I also noticed that a man from the legacy RP server had decided to use this (close to the) same idea into a LS. However, I would like to take said idea, and turn it into a full time FC. Typically, a Free Company is relatively hard to build on your own, especially an RP one at that. But I think that there are other people who would firmly enjoy this style of FC, and that's why I'm here. So far, I've got the idea down. An FC that consists of your every day adventurer's and then some. The chat would be used as walk-talkie like means, and there would be a LS for OOC to setup events, meet ups, and chat with others in and outside of the Free Company. For those still leveling, we could RP whilst doing quests, fates, dungeons, or whatever! There would be an HQ (Until a house is bought) that is agreed upon by all, that we would meet, discuss events, or plan changes to the FC. In the beginning, the RP could be anywhere from camping, travelling to hunting some rare animals, clearing a dungeon , all while being in character. But, if enough crafters/gatherers join, we could begin branching off into jobs for other FC's such as supplying certain gear, weapons, foods, potions, furniture, etc... in exchange for gil, valued items, or whatever we could use to help the FC grow. This is just an idea so far mind you, no such thing has been established yet. Even if the idea above doesn't work out, we will still branch off into different RP's as it builds, while keeping them all on the same story. Such as having an exploration group (Players still questing and leveling that wish to include it in there RP), Dungeon Runners (Players running dungeons in character), and heck, even a group that runs a local inn if enough players wanted. If you have an idea, feel free to write it in the comments. When, say roleplaying an adventure: In the daytime, we would travel, fight, explore unknown areas, and whatever our hearts desired. At night, we eat and drink at the nearest Inn, tell fine tales of past experiences and the people we met, or camp out the night and cook a home meal under the stars and hope for the best. Always looking for the next task, the next settlement. This is all I have thought up so far. Aside from this, it would require more than just I leading this. It would need a few leaders that are experienced in RP'ing, interviewing possible candidates, and teaching some of the newer players the ropes. I think that this could become something big if planned and executed properly. If you're interested and have any questions or believe that you'd be fit to help lead this Free Company, contact me in game. My name is Laurentius Vexen, either send me a letter, or private message me if I'm online. This post has been edited, and the character is new, so feel free to pitch any pointers!
  6. Thank you both for the condolences. I actually just picked up my USB keyboard so I'll be adding both of you tonight I still have some things to touch up on with the character I've chosen to start role playing with however. My main worry is having a background that would conflict with the lore in any way. So far I've been stuck deciding the birthplace, parents/family, and his reason for coming to Ul'dah. Still, until I learn more about the lore (A place within Eorza that may have had a peacefulness to it for some time where Eleazar trained with family, woke up and didn't remember anything, I don't really know yet). Any tips on any of these things would be great Also, about the RPC Linkshells. I just learned about linkshells the other day and have two questions. First, is there a list of all the RPC ones? Second, how are the linkshells used IC. Are they just an OOC thing to set up events/meet ups and chat with others? Or is it actually implimented in role playing someway? (Like I said, don't know much about the lore, aha...)
  7. Hello friends. My name is Brayden. I guess I could say I'm a newcomer to Final Fantasy, having played it a fair bit when I was young (Bits a pieces of different games, usually just trials or a friends game). Upon hearing of Final Fantasy XIV's release I had planned to pickup a copy myself, but hadn't gotten around to it until late last night. Now I'm not the type of person to go into a life long story about how bad my life is, but the past week was a pretty nasty one (Kitten got hit by a car, little bickering sessions with my girlfriend, not much sleep, etc...), so finally picking up this game and hearing there was an active RP community on it really pumped me up. Just as luck would have it however, after purchasing FF XIV from the PS store, I had a good 2-2 and a half hour download and install wait, plus the launcher update, and by the point the maintenance was already happening, blah, blah blah. Long story short, great to finally have it up and running (PS3 still has overheating problems though ). Onto the good stuff. I am 17 years of age and have been Role playing in forums and, back in the day, World of Warcraft, for about 7 years now. I was playing around with a friend and we decided to role play a bit while we were questing. Soon I was doing it every day and eventually began searching for role players in all the MMO's I played. Living what you might classify as "lower-class" most of my life, I've never really been able to afford a gaming PC. I had a business grade laptop that could barely run games at the minimum graphics settings. Eventually, the laptop broke, became obsolete compared to most PC's, games began requiring more power to run, and I purchased a console. Every so often I found myself missing the role play element in RPG's and just when I figured I might as well cave and save up for a decent PC, FF XIV came out and then the PS4 (ESO, FF XIV, Destiny, etc...). Now I can see real RP elements coming to console's. That's how I came to be here. As I mentioned before, I am still fairly new to the Final Fantasy series, having only played a bit when I was young and the beta phase on PS4. Normally I let the excitement get the best of me and jump straight into creating a background, regular hangouts, interests, appearance, and so on. Considering my lack of knowledge in terms of lore, I'll be doing it a little slower. I also read through the "RP Handbook" to brush up on the guide of RP'ing itself and if there was any specific things I had to lookout for such as lore when creating your character. So far, so good, as I only have the appearance set (in-game look), but I am still working on putting it into words. Aside from that, I'll be posting an outline below and doing changes wherever needed, as well as adding or removing information. If you'd like to set up a meeting or event/scene, contact me in game or get me to contact you. I always enjoy meeting new people (We'll just see have to see how my character feels). PSN: braydend Type of Role player: Heavy Name: Eleazar West Appearance: Black hair with white highlights. Eyes resemble hairstyle, black and white coloring. Appearing in his early 20's at most, (Insert name) has a strong and healthy look to him. He doesn't have big bulging biceps, but has a lean, muscular look. Standing roughly 72 inches in height, his size isn't intimidating to most. Background: Little is currently known on Eleazar West aside from small pieces of information. He'd came to Ul'dah alone with very little wealth. His preferred weapon was that of a steel long sword. Has a fondness of Dragoon's. I'll have more added by tonight or tomorrow I hope to see you online.
