People have been saying quite a bit of time has passed since the Calamity. More then five years now, however in patch 4.1 Nanamo says it's still been five years. So, do we really know how much time has truly passed?

I think it's mostly used for people that have meta knowledge but try to explain it as a rp trait their character has. To me yes my characters are "Special Snowflakes." but to another person, the same character let say, a Merchants from Ul'dah that often ships his wears from city to city. Is just an ordinary person.

We have all seen the "My parents died. I need to avenge my family. I came from Othard" tropes, and trying to think up some original ideas to make a more believable and unique but not a "special snowflake" character. I rename and fantasia my characters a lot... more then what is nessicary sometimes. It isn't that I don't enjoy my characters its more, all this stuff happens in a short amount of time and my character devolves. Which then gives said character way too many traits. I would sorta like to rewrite but it doesnt work that way.

My character recently lost a leg. Without thinking she is moving in thinking about what kind of replacement can be made and I am wondering if any of you have had a simalar situation and how your characters changed because of it.

Maybe I will drop by, dunno how busy I will be. But we will see.

Just a small update, I have changed my character, or shelved my main. I have alts yes, but I do not feel the desire to play them, maybe briefly. So I have renamed and fantasiaed my main to a new character I can play with and hopefully come up with something I feel is a little more to my liking. The one downside to this, is I have never met all those people on my friends list, which causes me to re engage with all of them. Unless I say something like "Hey, this is a new character, I want you to delete my off your friends list?"

These are actually helping, so thanks guys. I don't think I will take a break anytime soon, but I may shelve this character soon. Causing a new or existing character to reemerge. That said where my shelved character will go is kinda unknown. Maybe they will be indefinitely shelved till a day where I think back and say "Hey they would be perfect for this"

I imagine even you guys get tired of the same characters and wanna try something different. My question is how do you keep going, how do you stay strong if something in character doesn't go to plan? I am only reaching a year on my character, but sometimes I just feel like pulling the plug on her and starting over. How do I avoid making a mistake I am sure I will regret.

Sorry for bringing this topic back up. I see everyone is going into the lore of the game. But was more curious about people's views in a RP sense. Like my character cannot see aether even if she is a arcanist and stuff. To her she would see fire erupt from someone's hand or staff. The real issue I have though is I see a lot of people RPing out there about Aether example glowing eyes or aura's something under normal circumstances my character cannot see. Yet there are all these special snowflake people that can see Aether somehow. Some explain they have the echo but that land of RPing is another topic all together.

cannoncly in the story Aether can only be seen by those who have the echo. Or the head device thing. So what about IC can you see aether or not. I personally believe people overlook this and just believe what our character sees in game is what they can see.

Lol things seem to be getting out of hand here, I have since spoken to my partner after everything. I am currently taking a break. Our IC relationship will continue but we are speaking to each other more about how we feel about certain things and such. I don't mind the speculation on my partner, but I am still friends with them. Finally thanks for all the support, depending out how things work out in the future I may break up or find a way to work through it.

This. But I also disagree with Nebbs' comment "IC is not the place to resolve things." I would deal with the IC, IC. Maybe it was something that should have been discussed between your characters before getting hitched. If your character decides they've met their soul mate after two weeks, then, like real-life, you're going to have some issues. Hell even if they got hitched after a year you'd still have issues. You have to just roll with what your character would do in those situations. Explain yourself OOC if you have a need beyond, "This is an in-character reaction". My character has turned down IC proposals because it wasn't the right time or place, and because she didn't feel like she was known enough to make a commitment. I agree with this, ooc we are friends and there are a few things I can overlook how they RP. But IC I can see a tone of things OOC that just raises flags and makes me seriously want to run away IC and ooc.

Again thanks for all the replies. Some of the situational stuff, its common for me personally to take random leaves of absence. It might be I am playing a different game, or busy with real life stuff. I have let people know constantly that my life is this way. There are time due to time zone differences where my partner comes online and I am about to go to bed because of the time zones. We both know each other times zones, and work around them to play together. Its just for me personally I sometimes feel restricted once that time comes to play or rp with them even if I want to rp or play something else. I of course want to please my partner, and do right by them. I dont despise them or anything like that at all. I just feel somewhat smothered by the amount to time we spend together. In Character, my character loves her partner. However just as ooc I feel smothered ic she also feels smothered. What I mean is, ic I am a treasure hunter I enjoy going to the quicksand I have friends there and I just enjoy having a good time and a laugh there. IC my partner had a bad experience there so she rarely goes there, and only does come when I have gone there or am missing from my room. IC my partner then comes along and somewhat forces me to leave the place because she feels uncomfortable being there. IC I would say I am fine in Ul'dah, that I have experience living there and being in a place like that, but that doesnt stop them from coming and forcing me back. Now I dont mind spending time with them, IC or OOC but I am restricted from seeing any other people or friends, or making new friends. OOC, the often complain how they dont like the place. So the avoid it, but I am fine with going there and have told them that I am fine going there ic or ooc.
