Oh, I also needed to know if there's any lore available on whether different races can have children with one another. My character is meant to be a quarter Roegadyn (mostly Hyur), with his mother being half Roegadyn. I remember the possibility of half breeds being discussed, but don't recall an axe coming down against it at any point.

Other than there are 12 distinct "layers" we don't know if there's any sort of georgraphy, so to speak. It's possible. But we don't know. However, at the end of the Syrcus Tower storyline from 2.3, it is hinted that we might be making a journey into the Void to fight Cloud of Darkness. So we might get more lore info about the Void in the final Syrcus Tower installment in Patch 2.5. Please look forward to it! Hmmm. Well, if I have to make it some kind of pocket dimension then I suppose I will. For the time being, I'm going to still write it as being the Void in my backstory. My character's proper debut is not going to be until Heavensward anyway, so I'll write what I hope can be the outcome now, and I'll alter what I need to keep the story I want compatible with the lore as much as I can. Do we have any information on the other two major continents of Hydaelyn? I am wanting to decide how far out in the world this character traveled before he came back to Eorzea to help out at Carteneau.

I... I do prefer to stick with lore when I can, but there's a lot not covered and a fair amount left vague- probably for the promise of future expansions and patches. Then there are cases of conflicting canon or crossover or semi-crossover bits like the Crystal Tower containing versions of characters from III or the Lightning quest set. Some of these things will be considered canon or not depending entirely on who you're talking to, and as a result it can open you up for a minefield of what's okay and what isn't. I know people in-game who think the Crystal Tower is a huge lore-breaker, and they refuse to acknowledge anything that occurs in or because of it as canon. I don't mind bending the lore when I have to, and if I have to break it a tad for something to work (such as my 1.0 character ending up in the Dark Realm instead of being held out of time with everyone else from 1.0), I'll do it. Not to say I'm going to crack the lore wide open and plant magitek bombs in the corpse, but I don't care too much about a little gray canon. The lore will evolve constantly, of course, and there may come a time when a bend has to either be retconned or become a break. Just do as best you can, and don't waste your time worrying about the sort of Negative Nancies who want to give you hell over something like that.

There was no retcon; the Void has always gone by many names: The Void, the Unseen Realm, The Dark Realm, the World of Darkness, etc. I believe you may be getting it confused with another title, Cloud of Darkness, which is an entity within the Void and not a reference to the Void itself. *I* am most definitely not confused, but thank you very much anyway. Obviously the Void has gone by many names in OTHER Final Fantasies, but I had not seen the Void referred to as anything but the Dark Realm and the Void in 'A Realm Reborn'. When I inquired of an in-game acquaintance whether this was also canonically the World of Darkness in this setting I was told that it had not been before, but had started being referred to in this way with the latest Crystal Tower. Judging by what you say, if a person from the physical plane were to enter this other world they would be hunted pretty heavily for their Aether. On that subject, I need to know if there has been any description of actual layouts. Clearly there are creatures both corporeal and spiritual, so I'm wondering what sort of geography such a world would have. Or if, like the Void and other such realms are in other FFs, it is constructed as a twisted reflection or shaped by perceptions. If I have to I'll bend or break the lore a little for my concept, but whatever I can keep in line I intend to. As far as Sharlayan goes, I feel I guessed correctly that any form of Spellblade, Time Mage, Blue Mage, etc. would be most likely to originate from the Sharlayans. In 1.0 I roleplayed my character as a Spellblade, and am now trying to write out his life. I had to decide where he learned those abilities (which he has since lost access to), and had settled on Sharlayan as the most likely suspect.

Hopefully, there actually is some and I just didn't dig around the right way. I need as much information as possible about the Void and the state of Sharlayan, both general and specific. Also, I'd heard that with the inclusion of the full Crystal Tower the Void/Dark Realm has been retconned to be the World of Darkness and am wondering if this is true. I need this information because of character reasons I don't really want to go into just yet, but please stop by and unload whatever you happen to know on me.

Looks like it's moot anyhow. Another friend of mine is getting back into the game, and he really wants me to be his Conjurer character's familiar-turned-person. We'll perhaps meet again... FOR THE LAST TIME. :cactuar:

Uh huh, uh huh. It's not as though I'd be raving about it, that's just silly. And mostly this is for some fun backstory for me, that would probably only ever come up outside of the write-up during personal arcs anyhow and even THEN still be fairly vague. That is, however, pretty far aside from the point. I'm just here to have fun, soooo I don't really care about the people for whom this would be such a major issue that they wouldn't play with me. They are clearly not the kind of people I want to play with. And unfortunately, that is exactly how it looks to me. So I'mma just ask you to kindly leave me be. :3

I suppose so. I doubt he'll mind. Oh, yeesh. Yeah, that'll chew up your bandwidth pretty hard. But you'll get it done~ I decided Pouncival will have been born in the XIII setting, on Gran Pulse, in the year 500 AF (shortly before the End of Time). Gonna say he got pet by the Savior and had a spark of Chaos transferred to him, making his soul more like a human's than an animal's. When everyone else went to the New World, Pouncival was left behind in the Chaos. It was confused by him and couldn't tell if he was a cat or a person, so it made him both. After that, I'm going to say he's traveled through a few different worlds before reaching the lands of Eorzea. At any rate, I have to run to the store and am not sure how long I will be gone. Hopefully not more than 2 hours, I wanna gaaame already.

I've settled on being from the XIII trilogy setting and some vague information pre-Eorzea. I'm just not sure if I want to roleplay from Pouncival's arrival on Hydaelyn or have him already be semi-established. Guess I need to make some friends here first and see if he'd fit in with any groups.

Bahahaha, this is actually pretty close to what I tend to do when I make a character. But thank you, I'll use it for sure. :3 I'm just in the process of considering what I refer to as my Dramatic Hook. I've roleplayed only ordinary characters in my MMO career so far, so this time I want to strike out with something a little bolder, like I'd use in a tabletop game or my personal writing. And thank you! I'll make sure to say hi whenever I happen to get to make my character. Waiting on a lockout to be lifted is so frustrating.
