Uhm... Isn't that kind of being dealt with in the creation of this thread? Also, why are you assuming that I'm just not telling anyone? This idea has been in the works since 1.0 when they announced that female Roegadyn was going to become an option. I told everyone that I RPed with in any length. I was damn excited. I don't think there'll be any issues with people randomly deciding to change their races without telling anyone and just showing up out of the blue completely reformed. I didn't assume anything, I don't even know you well enough to assume anything. I was pointing out the fact that I, personally, would like a heads up. But it's good for you that you notified people? ...Why? It seems to be a common theme with all of these posts that I need to ask for permission from my fellow RPers if I can change my race or not. I'm just not starved enough for validation that I feel that I need to ask permission to dick about with my character. In fact, that wasn't even the topic of this thread. In all honesty, I'm pretty confused with the type of reactions I'm getting from this. I never said to ask for permission. I said to ask for the opinions of players from 1.0 whom you had IC contact with. But of course this is coming from the fact that /I'd/ like to be notified if someone I'd been RPing with had retconned. It's really more of a courtesy measure?

Except, in my instance, (and I'm assuming anyone else who does this) the core of the character remains in tact? I mean, the things that I'm changing are so minimal that you'd probably never even notice them when involved in any typical interactions. ...So, it makes no sense why I would make a new character. Yeah, I really don't see what the big deal is, here. I should really have rephrased. "But really it makes more sense at that point to a certain degree to just create a new character, in my opinion." By all means, if you didn't have many connections in 1.0 and the core of the character is the same, retcon away. Perhaps it would be more helpful if you asked the opinions of people who you have interacted with from 1.0?

Except for all that progress and work you put into the old one. Why re-do when you can just repurpose? Use your one-time character recreation?

Yeah, not to mention that we'd have to retcon Kylin and Gerik's entire relationship because Gerik doesn't date women .____. For me, I'm not a huge fan of gender/race retcons, but I suppose if they have to be done, then I think now's probably the best opportunity for that. But really it makes more sense at that point to just create a new character, in my opinion.

I've decided that maybe I should add another slot, I'll be giving it to the person with the most interesting looking flower (hell it may not even be a flower, maybe it's a leaf.) Mentorship: After reading the threads addressing the servers, it occurred to me that perhaps people might want more personalized help regarding the IC and OOC issues that come with starting anew. Essentially, the way this experimental program is supposed to work is having an experienced player "mentor" (pair off, if you will) with a newer player (get them into RP, help them with quests, etc.) This way, new players can get better help breaking into roleplaying as well as the game itself and more importantly, to have a friend. Ergo, please post below if you are interested in acting as a mentor to newer players, or if you are interested in recieving help from a mentor. Should someone find a mentor/mentee that they think would be a good fit, the individual should contact them (posting here in this thread is fine) and ask if they would be willing to comply. If the other consents, then congratulations on a new partnership. I think it might be best to list the mentors/mentees to display who is already accounted for, so that'll be posted below. It might also be helpful if the mentors could write a little blurb about themselves on anything that might help the novice get a better idea on what you're like, such as: RP style, preferences, journals, etc. Please click the link to read a little blurb about your potential mentor. Some new players want an alternative RP server. It's not even a universal desire among us newbies. I don't see how you're qualified to make that assumption really. I am not a legacy status player and I have zero interest in joining a legacy server. Especially after having gone through the past several months of being in a guild I thought I would be starting ARR with, only to find out today that I was expected to join their legacy server at launch with no questions asked. So I left the guild. I have never seen an overtly-friendly MMO community where the vets outnumber the newbies is one other reason I wont be on a legacy server as well. I would be more interested to see a discussion on which server will be voted on as a non-legacy new player RP server as opposed to some trying to convince more to join a pre-existing community. 1) Some new players want to join a new RP server 2) Some new players do not want to join a new RP server. 3) Therefore joining or not joining a RP server is not a universally held attitude in new players. 4) New players having the desire to join or not join a new/legacy server is an assumption. 5) Anyone from the general populace may formulate an assumption. 6) Therefore allgivenover is qualified to make an assumption.
