I'd say about 15-20% of the Female Miqo population will change to Male, and maybe 5% of every other race. I find it a bit funny that about half of my female friends from XI will be switching to Manqo'te, 10 years of Manthra deprivation at work.

I know, right! Can't believe some people on lodestone are saying she looks like a midlander in drag. Very optimistic now, the hairsytle she has is very similar to my GW2 Ustarte, just a little longer.

After a bit of a drought, we finally get some new character screenshots in the latest Letter from the Producer. And for those like me who are probably going to spend a few hours just in Character Creation.. "Although all races will be available from phase one of the beta test, not all customization options will be available. We're putting a lot of work into various options such as hair styles and colors (a whopping 192 shades are being planned!) based on feedback from the alpha test, and everything should be ready by phase three." Midlander Female Highlander Female (Been waiting so long for a proper screen..definately not disappointed!) Elvaan Male Lalafell Female Miqo'te Male Roeg Female

This seems to be pretty much exactly what I am looking for, being new to role-playing and having an uncontrollable urge to level every job/class I was a bit worried that I'd have trouble adjusting where most people seem to focus on 1-2 jobs that are part of the character's foundation.

Benchmark would be my guess, so people will know if their PC can handle the beta, might also help SE to tweak performance/graphics if too many score low/high. Also these were just added on to the ARR blog.. Snake Kabuto Helm. Baby Behemoth.

Those are the 4 tail options, never heard about length options, but more customization is always good ^^.

I'm guessing the two in the lower right are DoH sets, the Culinarian(Assuming the one with the scarf) one looks especially good, Ustarte is definately going to need that one and hopefully an awesome looking fishing one

Heh I received many blacklist adds from merit PTs getting pissed off I was soloing Sea Puks (Even when I was there first  ) as /RDM. I was pretty much the opposite in terms of endgame, lots of waking up at 3am for HNM pop windows. After 3 years in WoW as a Resto Druid, I think I'm done being a main healer for a while, a SCH like class would probably be the only way I'd ever heal again, being able to switch back and forth between DPS and Heals was refreshing.

Haha I never got anywhere near Relic/Mythic weapons, had a friend who got to 2nd last stage lance, but lost contact with him after the servers merged while I was on a break. I had pretty much the exact same problem after levelling BLM, but back then if I wanted in to the main group, I had to be what they wanted and ended up resenting BLM for it..oddly I really enjoyed SCH  so hopefully I'll like Arcanist too, since they seem to be enfeeb heavy. I know most people say the Wyvern isn't a real Dragoon feature..but after XI I loved my little blue buddy, went so far as to name my Chocobo "Duke" after him. Don't worry about derailing Helps me get to know people better.

The DRG community on Midgard was awesome, and most likely the main reason I ended up sticking with it for so long, the funny thing about ToAU for me was that I was levelling BLM at the time and hit 58 right as it came out.. So I went from being highly wanted for groups, to almost useless once again . I ended up being a BLM healer from 60-73 in melee burn PTs before being able to move on to puddings. As for the prejudice thing, I don't intend it to be full on racism, just a distrust and wariness due to a past experience that I've outlined in a topic that was thankfully moved to the right area by a mod . It probably won't last long, as I'm thinking of having the Midland boy in the story becoming either Ustarte's companion (if we still get them in 2.0) or her retainer. And having a Elvaan DRG in XI made me pretty much accustomed to racism and job discrimination in-game, I swear half the time I was referred to by outsiders as loldrg or {Dhalmel}.

Hi there everyone, I didn't want to cram my Welcome Desk topic with the background I'm thinking of using for my new Highlander for 2.0, so decided to post here and see if anyone had any opinions on what I've got so far. EDIT: Damn, just noticed the Assembly Room has RP-related Inquiries and Discussions, sorry still getting used to where everything goes  , if a mod could be so kind as to move this topic there, or I could just clear this and make a new one. Grammar/Format/General suggestions all appreciated, I'm not sure if I should leave communication parts as they are, or have actual speech "". Also since it's been a long while since I played, I'm not sure how accurate some of the lore I used is, so any corrections there would be great. So here we go.. Ustarte's hardships began even before her birth with the fall of Ala Mhigo, fleeing within the chaos was a pregnant Virae Reiya guarded by her husband, Jaim, a low ranking member of the Lancers. She had become one of the first of many unfortunate generations that would never know the home of their ancestors, born into a nomadic lifestyle. Despite her harsh upbringing, Ustarte grew into a happy child, her father's sturdy frame and skill with a spear ensured him work amongst various fishing vessels, while Virae studied at the Bismarck eventually becoming a chef for the Mizzenmast Inn. On her 16th Nameday, Jaim finally allowed Ustarte to accompany him on a trade ship to Western Thanalan, it only took several malms from the ports of Limsa Lominsa for a love of the ocean to bloom. The crashing of the waves, the smell of salt in the air and the boisterous crew, she'd never felt anything so exhilarating, from that instant, Ustarte knew what she wanted...A ship of her own. It was on the return trip that everything changed, roughly half-way through the journey, Ustarte spotted several strange objects in the sky, they looked like towers with wings. Fascinated, she looked to her father with a smile to see his grim expression, looking around at the rest of the crew, it seemed as though the life had been sucked out of them. As they neared Limsa Lominsa the sky began to darken, Dalamud, the fiery object that had appeared in the sky seemed to break apart, meteors rained down upon the City-State, tears began welling in the young Hyur's eyes. Thaliak's Wisdom slammed into the docks, Ustarte hit the deck hard, as her vision cleared, she noticed the whole Highlander crew were already sprinting towards the city, weapons in hand. Ustarte had never known her homeland, never seen how proud and powerful her warrior clan had been before the invasion, now even her father's eyes, always so kind, now burned with an intense fury, all because of two words..Garlean Empire. Lifting Ustarte to her feet with one hand, Jaim carried her onto the dock, gently stroking her hair and reassuring her with his usual smile, he told her to find her mother, and for them to leave the city as quickly and quietly as they could, before running off after his clansmen. A thunderous crack filled the air causing Ustarte to freeze in place a stones-throw away from the bottom of the Mizzenmast. Looking skyward she saw a great black winged beast emerging from within Dalamud, it's gaze followed by fire and death as it flew towards Limsa Lominsa. As if frozen in time, Ustarte watched motionless and silently as the ground and building around her erupted and shattered. A piece of debris smashed into the young Highlander, sending her reeling into the wall of the Mizzenmast, more rubble falling on to her, trapping her legs. At first there was no pain, Ustarte sat there, pinned to the ground by several chunks of rock, confused. As realisation hit her, the pain set in, Ustarte's hands desperately scrabbled for leverage, jagged edges tearing her fingers to ribbons. Just as she was about to give up hope, 3 Midlanders ran past, the youngest seeing her and stopping..A man, woman and a child a little younger than herself, probably a family. Grabbing his father's sleeve the boy pointed to Ustarte and took a step towards her, the girl's bloody hand reaching out towards them, the father looked at her pitifully and mouthed something..I'm sorry..Hoisting the boy from his feet, the family ran. Ustarte's vision blurred then faded, a strange feeling gripped her, first weightlessness, then a light impact, then weightlessness again. Her eyes were heavy, but she managed to force them slightly open, finding herself looking upon an Elezen man with long silver hair clad in armour of the darkest purple and trimmed with the whitest silver. Her strength fading once again, Ustarte's head sank back, looking behind them she noticed blue lights appearing all over the city, passing some of them closely, it became apparent that there were people inside the lights, and then nothing, they were vanishing. Hundreds of lights were appearing and vanishing before her eyes, as darkness took her once more, she thought to herself, I hope my parents are in one of those lights.. I'm completely new to RP, but I always did enjoy writing stories for all my units back when I played Warhammer 40k tabletop (Until I realised I'd spent around $1500 on 1 army :frustrated: ). The Elezen at the end of the story is my 1.0 character, and I was planning on continuing the story for the 5 cycles(it is 5 right?) between Bahamut and ARR.

Thanks for the warm welcome. As of now I'm planning to start fresh with a Female Highlander, but I won't know for sure until February when we apparently get access to the full Character Creation. If I can't make a Highlander I like, I'll probably make a Female Roeg just because I want something new (and don't want to be part of the massive Man'Qote zerg). I don't know if there's a set place, or if I should make a new topic in another area, but I'll just start by asking my first question here.. What are people's opinions on Racial Prejudice in RP? I'm wondering this because I was thinking of where to start my development while I was watching the End of an Era video and thought it would be cool to have a younger Ustarte injured during Bahamut's attack on Limsa Lominsa.. Where she gets stuck under some rubble/debris and there is a small group of *insert race here* who she calls to, but they run off in fear and leave her, before she's saved by my 1.0 character. So after this, while she's adventuring she shows slight hostility/aggressive behaviour towards that race, and I can have her overcome this and develop as she progresses. Ofcourse this could all fall apart when they tell us the reasons these race/gender options weren't available Lore-wise in 1.0 (They're still going to do that, right?). Soooo...Any opinions? :ugeek:

Hello everyone, I figured I'd slip in here before all the chaos starts up in the middle of the year as we near the lift of the NDA. Having never tried RP before, I thought I'd need some time to wrap my head around everything, so expect some stupid questions. :? So here we go, a little about me.. I'm a 26-year old Aussie with a fairly long history of MMO's, starting with FFXI as a DRG main, which I still have a huge soft spot for despite starting in the peak of the LOLDRG phenomena with a personal record of 8 straight days of LFP before finding a group (Not including invites that caused other group members to drop out after seeing DRG  ), resulting in a full year long journey from 1-75. After FFXI I jumped around to a couple of F2P MMOs, before settling in to WoW and eventually joining the 2nd best Horde Guild on my server (We lost clearing Sunwell by 2 hours...2 HOURS!). Then I started jumping around between MMO's again until FFXIV's Closed Beta, and played fairly solidly for a year or so(All DoW/M classes capped except for Archer..never really got into it) before bouncing around and then trying Guild Wars 2. It was during my 2-3 month stint in GW2 that I realised I'd become a bit too focused and driven in my MMO gaming, I'd lost the feeling of wonder that held me to FFXI for all those years. My intentions were not to experience everything I could, but to make my numbers bigger, and it only took me rushing 6 characters to cap one after the other to realise it. So with ARR coming closer and closer to fruition, I've decided to not only start fresh with a new character (I'll still keep my original, just in case I need to sate my hunger for endgame content), but to try something completely new by RPing. That was a little longer than intended...
