  1. Slightly off topic but I think poor Taki'a is completely confused and slightly disturbed by Seeker girls. Seeker culture is a demented inversion of Keeper culture (his perspective) and he finds it baffling. Most of the non-Keeper cultures are like that, so he has regular culture shock I suppose
  2. I am Taki’a Venn, literally “the first son of TakiVenn”. Taki Venn is my mother, also theleader of our tribe in the Shroud. I wasone of 3 boys born to the women of my tribe, amongst numerous daughters, but such is the way of things for our people – the Miqo’te Keepers of the Moon. The goddess favors us with many daughtersand few sons, and those sons like me inevitably take up a life of solitary wandering when we come of age. Among our people the women rule and manage affairs. We males are often consumed by wanderlustuntil we are too advanced in years to do so anymore. One such old man was of my favorite uncles wholived among my tribe. Even so itcertainly seemed he was “well appreciated” by many of the women of my tribe. I only hope if I live so long andsettle somewhere I can be so lucky. Our tribe is located in the distant reaches of theShroud, some considerable distance from the nearest city-state of Gridania. There’s been some talk amongstthe elder matriarchs of our tribe of relocating closer to the city – since the Calamity things have become increasingly dangerous this far out in the wilds and they’ve seen fewer suitable breeding males come along. Since my plan is to journey beyond even theShroud, I expect it may become quite difficult to find my tribe again. That sounds sad I suppose, but for a male Keeper itreally isn’t too terrible. According tothe elders of my tribe it is actually very rare for a male of a tribe to ever return, even just to visit. Still, Ithink it is probably at least somewhat comforting to know where you came from is, in fact, still there. Be that as it may, times change and to fight against thatis about as pointless as insisting our beloved Moon Goddess always show the same face to Eorzia. Nothing can stop itfrom changing, so complaining is pretty much just a waste of effort. A few of my sisters and cousins have asked me where Iwill go. I think I shall journey toUl’dah in the distant lands of Thanalan and take up the life of a sellsword and adventurer. Goddess knows I’ve neverbeen one to stick to anything so if I am to be honest with myself I must confess that I shall probably never be much more than a journeyed dabbler of this and that and never remembered as a great anything. Other than, perhaps, a great nuisance! Hah!
  3. I haven't noticed much in Ul'dah about people disliking or distrusting Keepers. As near as I can tell from the various newbie quests in that area most Ul'dahns just see "cat person" and leave it at that, the finer point doesn't appear to register or if it registers it just doesn't appear to matter. Can't really say about Limsa, haven't tooled around it much.
  4. Does it help make the start of chat lines stand out a bit more? The worst of the many problems I had was one person's /say chat would nearly blend completely in with the next persons. Me clearly needing new bifocals wasn't helping I'll grant, but anything to add a bit of differentiation would be helpful.
  5. Hey feel free to look me up and/or friend me if you see me on. Always looking for chances to RP away from big spammy crowds
  6. The part I really struggle with is connecting the lines of text with the people who said them, but those aren't bad ideas either. Probably just a consequence of getting older and the eyesight not being what it once was and all. (darned kids!) In the meantime, I'll muddle along as best as I can. I'm sure there are less crowded places to RP in and then as I get more involved I'll try things like using party chat and such. Thanks for the tips
  7. Possibly dumb question - but where can I learn more about the lore and culture of the Au Ra?
  8. So I stopped by the Quicksand last night (easy to do when you're in single-digits of levels and your quests take you there anyway... ) and was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer volume of role-play going on. Reaction #1: This is AWESOME! Look at all these people! Reaction #2: I can't follow a darned thing going on... too much.... argh! Reaction #3: I miss chat bubbles....
  9. Another newbie here, so please feel free to hit me up in-game if you see be galavanting around Ul'dah (or elsewhere I suppose).
  10. Thanks everyone, I'll try not to make too much of an annoyance of myself One of the reasons behind my origin of basically "country bumpkin who grew up in the backwoods of nowhere" is to allow me to fold my limited familiarity with FF lore into being IC 8-)
  11. Dragon-people are cool and remain one of my favorite fantasy race tropes. So for sure I'll make one, and lore-depending I might end up shelving old Taki'a, too early to say yet.
  12. I'm still at work. Only mid-afternoon here in California. It'll be another couple hours before I'm on. But thanks all the same!
  13. I've been fiddling about with FFXIV for a month now (just got my 30-day veteran reward, yay) and I'm of a mind to not just build a character but a story as well. I'm playing Taki'a Venn, a miqo'te "Keeper of the Moon" from a tribe in a distant corner of the Shroud. As the tribal matriarchs discuss relocating the tribe closer to the settled lands of Gridania in response to increasing dangers since the Calamity he strikes out in search of adventure and new experiences. Starting off in the distant lands of Thanalan he arrives in Ul'dah taking up the sword of the Gladiator's Guild as a way of making a name for himself. Taki'a is the eldest son of the chief matriarch of his tribe. He has dozens upon dozens of sisters and cousins and only a small handful of younger brothers and boy cousins combined. An elderly male, too old to wander, was an "uncle" to him, telling him of the world and instrumental in his decision to seek a life of fame and fortune adventuring. Concept-wise he's a young wanderer "fresh off the carriage" in search of grand adventure and far more likely to find himself in grand trouble instead. He has a kind heart and a protective instinct regarding those he cares about. For now he's still in single-digits of levels but I welcome contact and am in no grand hurry to "race to the level cap" and hope to meet as many of you as possible.
