  1. I don't know the story surrounding this "betrayal" you mention, but if the circumstances allow it you may be able to take a more antagonistic route with your former colleagues. Using your character to present IC friction between you and the tribe may be fun for those involved, if that's your sort of thing. Maybe less outright villain and more passive-aggressive disapproval, depending on your relationships.
  2. I usually start off by copying my own initials and running from there. Characters I make tend to have a G or an L, or both, and then I start looking up naming conventions that fit what I have established. Funnily enough, I settled on the name Leonhart after searching through Germanic surnames and thought "Eh, yeah, that fits him well". It wasn't until an hour after finalizing him that I remembered "Ah, shit, Squall's last name was Leonhart, I am SUCH a fan boy.
  3. Another point of note I've seen floating around: if you plan on having alts, the paid transfer will allow you to move up to 8(?) characters to Balmung at once for the cost of one transfer, provided they're all on the same server. This could be helpful if you've got more than one character concept you'd like to try out.
  4. I've always wanted to play the generic peasant, someone who just goes to work the fields or peddle bullshit knickknacks his father-in-law made or something equally mundane. At night he retires to the tavern for a few rounds before heaving his miserable form home for the night.

Heh, only 12+ hours too late. Didn't have the game downloaded until 1030est anyhow :dodgy:

    DUMP BEES!

Hello, Greg here, and welcome to my Welcome Desk Welcome Thread! I've lurked here in the past but never actually owned FFXIV before. I played the Beta back in the day but never really gave the game a decent chance. In between MMOs at the moment, and with the Humble Bundle dropping keys for dirt cheap I figured it was the perfect time to try something new. I'm a long time MMO fan, my humble origins rooted in RuneScape's (in)famous World 42. Since then I've been roleplaying in several different MMOs over the past 5 years. SWTOR, The Secret World, Elder Scrolls Online, Archeage for a time, and I even found myself trying WoW out. I guess now it's time to jump into FFXIV and give it a go. I'm also a very amateur YouTuber (I've got 3 subs, no big deal) and mild alcohol enthusiast. I live up in Maine (hello there, Canada) so it's a matter of survival more than anything. That's me in a very crunchy nutshell. I'm still downloading the game and dreading the apparent Balmung Struggle, but I hope to see you all in game at some point! :cactuar:
  7. Drinking whiskey with my brother and watching Die Hard. The only one who got any presents this year was the dog, so we'll be taunting him with his giant toys and stumbling through the house quoting Bruce Willis.
  8. Hello, Hydaelyn Roleplayers. I'm a longtime roleplayer, and frankly I'm curious about Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. I played some of the game back in Beta, and enjoyed the gameplay but wasn't in a financial situation to actually play the full game. Sad face. Anyway, I'm curious about the different roleplay aspects. How involved is it? Is the community vocal, getting out into the world and having adventures and such? What are guilds (I've heard called Free Companys) like? What kind of features does the game have for roleplayers to enjoy? Basically, what is it about Final Fantasy that brings you all here?
