1. Back in 2016 I decided to give FFXIV a whirl, as my old introduction thread can attest to. It turns out I didn't stick around too long, but long enough to make an account here. Well, after fourteen or so years WoW has finally lost the near-iron grip it once had over me and after mucking about on FFXIV for a good two-three months now it's safe to say I'm here for the duration. Seeing as I didn't make it past 30 last time I still very much consider myself a 'newbie' to this whole thing. Yep, another WoWfugee. As if Ul'dah didn't already have issues. Somehow I found myself on Balmung, presumably before the quarantine was enforced it ended up closed. With that dashing sprout next to my name I will say I'm a little conscious of being a newbie on a place with a distinct lack of them. How much of an impact that will have I don't know but I'm optimistic. I've considered having a look at Mateus since I imagine it's quite bustling with fellow newcomers, but I've also been told that most people will just try to transfer Balmung when it opens up anyway and the effort would be redundant. Decisions, decisions eh? Most likely I'll end up recreating my character on Mateus for roleplay purposes. Anyway, I'm rambling. What am I actually here to roleplay? That's a loaded question that I'm still figuring out. I love the Highlander models and bin frum t' Norf o' England I can't help but feel some kinship whenever an Ala'mhigan NPC opens their mouth. On the other hand I also love the lore and aesthetics of the Dark Knight. As somebody who typically puts all of their effort into the one character and avoids alts that's lead to some difficult questions. Right now I'm weighing up my choices between said Highlander adventurer (original I know) or being an absolutely obnoxious snowflake and taking advantage of some old(ish) OC art on my avatar to represent a... sigh, Half-Elezen. Hold the groans. Either way I'm looking forward to getting started... again.
2. I really like the Roegadyns and when I created my character it was a toss up between them or the Highlanders. Ultimately, I settled on the latter just because I preferred the male's more muscled aesthetic compared to how more... pudgy and 'bear-ish' the Roegadyn men are. If I opt to make an alt though, I know which race I'll be firing up. Incidentally, a friend who joined me in the game sent me this last night.
3. So, I'm new here, and I'm going to be the first to admit that my knowledge of the lore is rather limited, as well as the roleplaying community and game itself. With that in mind, I figured I'd throw out my hat into the ring and see if I can cobble together some connections. I mean, the worst thing that could happen is one of us ends up dead right? Uh, anyway. Given my inexperience, I decided to whip up a character who is similarly somewhat... hm, ignorant I suppose you could say of the greater climate. He's a recent Highlander arrival to Ul'dah from Ala Mhigan, having taken part in the resistance there for much of his adult life. As a result, he's received his share of scars, he's hardly inexperienced in matters of war, and thus has decided to somewhat hop onto the adventuring bandwagon. Why? Well, he's pretty damn good at killing things, and with a lack of any other noteworthy skills; a chip on his shoulder, a need for coin and a past he may or may not be running away from. It's one way to make a new life, right? First and foremost, he's a pessimist; being a bit too blunt in the social department, hardly the most trusting individual at the best of times - after all, most people are in it for themselves... right? - and though he lacks for a hot-headed temper, he isn't afraid to display his dominance physically or verbally when he deems it necessary. All in all, he's not great at parties, but he can make a scene you'll remember. With that being said, he's pretty damn loyal to those he deems worthy enough of it, but right now he's lacking for anything short of an acquaintance and a handful of employers. He's quite literally new in town. At this moment in time, I'm hunting down just about any circumstances; friends, acquaintances, rivals, pickpockets, sparring partners, whatever. Lacking for any real specific ideas until I get further into the meat of the game for inspiration, I am open to suggestions. Whilst nobody likes "oh dude im totally open to w/e XD" I'm more than willing to meet people half-way when it comes to throwing around ideas, even if it's coming up with a convient enough excuse for a pair or more to bump into each other and strike up some sort of conversation. My directory can be found here. Cheers.
4. Thanks for the welcome all. It is encouraging to see so many TSW RP'ers here. I have to say that it was, without a doubt, my fondest roleplaying experience on any MMO. Argent Dawn EU, though I moved over to Defias Brotherhood until about mid-Cataclysm once the RP-PvP servers opened up.
5. I. Basic Info Characters: Just the one. See below. Primary character: Gunnar Stoneguard Linkshells: None at this time. Primary RP linkshell: None at this time. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy Views on RP combat and injuries: Open to combat, though at this time I don't actively seek it out. I've done my share of it in the past, albeit on different MMOs. I'd rather wait until I'm more aware of the 'conventions' this community has regarding it. Injuries I am fine with, provided they aren't too intensive, nor permanent unless otherwise stated/accepted in the heat of the moment. With that being said, I don't expect people to play play daft and avoid every other attack whilst expecting the other character to look like they've been through a meat grinder by the end of it. Views on IC romance: I don't actively hunt it down, but I am not opposed to it. People and thus characters can get these annoying things called feelings in the right (or wrong) circumstances afterall, though Gunnar may be something of a harder nut to crack for more serious commitments than casual romps. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Always happy to see and do this. Family... eh, I'm not too keen on really introducing anybody connected to him by blood just yet. That aside, I'm always open to new friends, acquaintances, employers, even rivals and opponents. Views on lore: I'm new to FFXIV and indeed Final Fantasy as a whole. Though I do my best to stay within the bounds of it and play a character who fits into the setting easily, I can't promise I won't make mistakes here and there. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Happy to oblige with the preferred I suppose? III. Other Info Country: United Kingdom Timezone: GMT Contact info: Private messages or in-game. 6. Boo. So, in the interests of kick starting my post count- uh, being polite, I figured I'd throw up the obligatory introductory thread. Grabbed the game around Christmas, was very much dismayed at having to fork out sterling just to get onto the arrpee server, but with enough disposable income and an apparently less than sound mind for money I decided to throw some shrapnel at the screen. Low and behold, I now have a character on Balmung. I've been mucking about as a roleplayer in various forms for years now. I started properly on World of Warcraft (*holds for groans*) about eleven years ago now, and in the time since then I've bounced around various games (Warhammer Online, LotRO, The Secret World) and formats (forum roleplay, IM arrpee, etc) to get my fix of playing pretend. Enjoyed drama, annoyed people, made a few mates and irked many more. Fun times. Low and behold, I find myself in the last thing I ever thought possible... a Final Fantasy game. After scouring through some lore and information, I eventually settled on a Highlander. Not quite as rugged in aesthetics as I'd have preferred, I jumped into Gladiator. Given my (very) limited knowledge of the lore thus far, I'm bouncing around the idea of him being a relatively recent refugee from Ala Mhigo, who's trying his hand at this whole mercenary/adventurer thing. So, hello.
