  1. Howdy! I took about a 3 year hiatus, mostly because I got a lot more serious about the game at the time and for some reason thought it meant I couldn't have fun roleplaying but after SB, I realized I was just being dumb. I just felt like I'd reintroduce myself! I consider myself rather experienced in roleplay in general, but a novice when it comes to FF related RP. I know the lore quite well, but never really took a character out for a spin before. My character is Alys Aave if you ever want to hang out or talk to me about something in game, I'm on the Primal Data-center, Behemoth. If you're ever down for something, I can give you my character information and I am available on discord, here, or on FF if you happen to be one of those elusive primal RPers. I hope you all have a wonderful week!
  2. You know, this isn't exactly a bad approach. If your character is as garrulous as you say he is, butting in or just starting up a conversation with a simple "What's new stranger?" can lead to a lot of interesting and unique conversations. Now I'm not saying go ahead and go up and just rudely but in, but like if people are having a casual conversation and you feel you have the perfect opportunity to insert yourself and add to the conversation go for it. It'd even be appreciated if a more silent like character is lounging about, you could be the helping hand to thrust them into action without them having to wait for their own opportunity. Needless to say, it does take a lot of trial and error. But as long as you're a good sport, it'll be smiles all around. For me, one of my biggest issues is trying to explain or show off a character during a roleplay. One of the hardest parts about playing out a scene in game is all the little subtle details you can include on a forum post are near impossible for me to implement in game, and while it feels a lot more natural I have a harder time making note of my characters unique flaws or features. Like, I really enjoy playing out a physical disability that would drastically change how my character would react to another. Blindness is by far my favorite in this regard but I'd feel like a clown if that was one of the first things I point out. But I'm also afraid if I'm too subtle, the feature gets all blurred and they don't pick up on it. It's hard to balance the two, especially with random pub encounters.
  3. Hey, thanks for the warm welcomes! I feel as though most my questions have been answered, but I guarantee a lot more will rise in a few days. I'll be sure to co-opt one of you guys when I have one!
  4. Heya! I started FFXIV about 1.5 years ago (Give or take) with a bunch of friends on Exodus. It was a tons of fun for a while (ignoring all the history between then and now) and have decided to swap over to Balmung. I had my eyes on this site particularly as it seemed to be a beacon for roleplay for FF in general. Decided to finally make an account given the occasion and say hello! Few things about me: Started roleplaying 4-5 years ago and fell in love with it. Went through all the trials and errors that came along with it and usually stuck to forums and the such. After a bit of SWTOR and FFXIV, I've fallen in love with in game stuff or at least having a medium to actually see another character 'face-to-face'. Absolute blast, still working on speeding up my typing. I'm fast but not with big detailed paragraphs. Those take a bit more effort, but it's a million times faster than a few years ago. Oh, and uh In-game name is Auli Latvala if you want to hit me up. It's not strictly lore based (It's Finnish actually) but hey, I like it. So heya friends! (It's currently 3am so I'm snoozin' for now. Hope to see some responses in the morning!)
