It's pretty straightforward. /r/ffxiv went through a similar process and elected Gilgamesh as their official server, so the majority of people from reddit are rolling there, and every time a new person shows up asking for a server recommendation they get pointed to Gilgamesh.

I really hope Gilgamesh doesn't win the vote. Gilgamesh is great; it's the server where the majority of Reddit FFXIV players are. Downside: it's the server where the majority of Reddit FFXIV players are.
