  1. I could see Domi and Kasi having some very interesting first encounters, especially considering their personalities. One idea I had involved being tasked with retrieval of a body and either a misunderstanding regarding the situation or finding it already being taken care of by someone else, though I'm not sure how well that would fit for Kasi to be on either side of that encounter. Still, they seem like the kind of people who would get along, at least, if you give them enough time to actually get to know each other. The ShroudLife linkshell also sounds like a good place for me to start looking for people, thanks for the heads up on it.
  2. I. Basic Info Characters:Domi Yanenic Primary character:Domi Yanenic Linkshells:None as of yet Primary RP linkshell:None as of yet II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy):Medium to heavy. Unless I'm grinding, I'm going to consider myself doing what I'm doing in character, and even then, I might be doing some grinding in character too. Views on RP combat and injuries: I've not made a concrete decision on this yet. Views on IC romance: ]I'm all for it, so long as it works. I've seen a lot of long descriptions about this that say about the same thing but there's not much more that needs to be said honestly. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Domi's an orphan, so family ties are unlikely. However, she'll be looking forward to making contacts at least, if not friends. Views on lore: I'm going to try to keep things fitting lore as best as possible. I mean, our characters are bound by the laws of their world, it wouldn't make sense to break them just because. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Linkshells could be IC or OOC depending on the linkshell, but /say and /yell I'll assume to be IC first. /tell and /shout i assume to be OOC at first. III. Other Info Country:Canada Timezone:EST Contact info:You can send me a PM here on the forums or send me a whisper if I'm online. 3. Hey there! As the title suggests, I'm looking for connections for Domi, an adventurer completely new to both adventuring and also to the continent and its peoples. Naturally, I'd love to find some people who would be interested in bringing a new adventurer under their wing (or just taking advantage of a newbie's gullibility) I'm not really sure what kind of long-term stuff I would like to have planned for Domi, to be honest. She sees herself as someone who would eventually grow to be a vital part of a guild, perhaps, going on adventures she could tell stories to her children and grandchildren about once she finally retires. So really I could see her doing well as a secondary character in someone else's grand storyline, particularly while she's learning to come into her own. Uh, I don't really know what else to say here right now, but I'll be updating the wiki page and my directory page and this post little by little while I wait for the time limit before I can make the world transfer.
  4. Oh, that's a lot more convenient than I assumed! I'll just name my new character after someone I find here on the forums and I can spend the next couple days making connections so I have somewhere to start off once I move in, and also make a couple other character ideas I've been considering as well. I'll see you when I get there!
  5. Well, it's been a couple days of thought and I think I'm going to invest the extra money into getting a character onto Balmung. Is it really just as simple as making a character, waiting 3 days, and doing the transfer? Also, where should I post the character profile I've come up with in order for me to start trying to find people to meet up with once I actually get in? (as a side note, I'm tempted to just get a friend to help me transfer some crystals and gil over from my old character to my new one just to make grinding the crafting classes a bit easier on the first run through, but I want to use the same name as the old character. I'm looking at the description on the Mog Station and if I name my new character something that's already a taken name on Balmung does that mean I get to use the name change for free or does that cost extra?)
  6. That's not exactly what I'd meant - when I started FFXIV, I'd played the game as, well, a game. Leveling up classes, spending hours a day crafting or gathering, those were (and still are) enjoyable ways to wind down, and that's what I used the game for, but the more I played the more I got into the head of what I imagined my character to be like, but unfortunately I really never actually put any effort into making the roleplaying side of the game a focus. When I did end up dropping the game, it was mainly because I couldn't afford it at the time, and I didn't pick it back up because I got hooked on other games in the meantime. In fact, I feel like the fact that I never put in the effort to try to roleplay more often is what's really getting me to want to play the game again, starting from a fresh character if need be. That being said, that is some good advice, and I'm still debating exactly what I want to do from a roleplaying standpoint, at least "mechanically". At the core, I want to be able to live life in the game as my character, rather than do what I'd been doing where I basically roleplay as though my character is the one playing the video game, if that makes any sense. The best example was one time when my friends were having an engagement party for two characters on one of their FCs, and my character got a huge crush on another character, to the point where I was getting flustered over it outside of the game. Everything else is more about the hows rather than the whys, but they're still important, and the more I look at things, the more I'm realizing there's a lot to consider. Do I want to start a new in-game character and experience the story of a fresh adventurer trying to find her place in the world she recently thrust herself into? Or do I want to stay as my currently established character, already a fairly seasoned adventurer, and have her story start when she finds a new guild? How much of the game story do I want to have incorporated into my character's story? Do I want to rename her so that her name fits proper Lalafell naming conventions? A lot of little questions like that are springing up at the moment and while I wish I could just make an alt on another server real quick to test the waters and see what I like, the wait for a good time to make an alt or the 18 dollar transfer fee is really making me need to try to establish what I want from a roleplaying perspective before I start sinking too much time or effort in the wrong direction. I might try doing some roleplaying here on the forums first to get more of a feel of where I stand, at least for how canon the game story is to my character. I'm not sure where I'd post a basic character bio or if I could just start a non-canon IC thread in the Town Square or something, but thanks for all the kind words and support so far! I'm definitely looking forward to diving straight into whatever it is I do decide upon.
  7. Heya! I found this place while looking for some answers regarding RPing in FFXIV, and I'm glad I did! Unfortunately, this new information really has me unsure of what I want to do next... I've been away from playing FFXIV for almost a year now and with the recent 4-day retrial thing SquEnix is doing right now it really got me wanting to play again, especially since I only really stopped playing when I did because I couldn't afford the subscription fee, but I can afford it now, so I really don't have much of a reason to not play again. But while back when I played before it was mainly for the sake of having something to progress with, I've been really wanting to play FFXIV as a Roleplaying game where I can really be the character that I've developed and come to associate myself with when playing. So I've been debating if I wanted to start again from scratch on one of the RP worlds or try to find a smaller community with my old character. I'm not worried much about the time it would take to grind, rather the effort it would take to either get into one of the RP worlds compared to finding a community to join on Jenova. Suffice to say, I'm probably going to be looking a lot through the forums over the next while just to try and get more of a feel for what my options actually are and how much they weigh, but if anyone could point me in the right direction to get more information, that would be great. Either way, I'm glad to have found these forums, and I'm looking forward to the stories I'll get to live out with like-minded people.
