That's good- and I certainly agree with what Faye said completely. Just wanted to pop in the thread for one thing though; I wanted to say, good on you for coming to see what you did wrong and get advice. It takes a lot of courage to do so, and even more to admit your mistakes on a public forum. With that said, keep up the courage and the determination to improve, and you'll be able to handle these kinds of situations and more!

Welcome to the RPC! While I'm not new to FFXIV itself, I'm new to the roleplaying community; so I hope my perspective on things can also help- though Lamia basically covered it all pretty well! 1. People here are fairly open to new players, from what I've experienced so far! There's also a lot of other people who just got to Balmung, are starting new characters, or something similar. As long as you put yourself out there, people here are willing to help you and arrange interactions! 2. I did it only a few days ago, and it took only a few minutes for the transfer to go through. A bit expensive if you're only doing one character (like I did, but I'm still on an entry-level subscription after.... over a year). If you think you may ever want an alt, I'd make them all now and let them sit. Balmung is never open. except to my sister, who was able to make a character by just waiting during DAYLIGHT HOURS. and then she deleted it later...... 3. I haven't really met anyone so far who has gotten super upset about it but I haven't been here for very long myself. I think as long as you have a name that fits the character & their backstory, nobody will bug ya too much about it; their characters will ask about it at worst. 4. It depends on your character! Obviously if your character is a historian or something, that might not work out very well... But say someone was submerged with work their whole life, was a slave of some kind, etc etc... Them not knowing much would make sense. Plus like what Lamia said, you'll learn a lot especially in the first part of the MSQ. There's even a timeline on the wiki and plenty of people willing to help you out with it! (Hell, I've learned more about the lore myself through other people's characters.)

That'd be great! @arkamas: Whoa; that's a lot of characters! I'll take a look tonight/in the morning and see what ideas come to mind with which characters. I'm pretty sleepy for tonight so I'm just doing a rehaul of my RPC wiki page, thank you all for your offers! The RP has been great so far and I'm excited (and less nervous) to do more~

He sounds like a fun character to be around! Mimi's extremely shy so I think he might be able to open her up a little, haha. I'm comfortable with in-game, Skype, Discord, or forum RP! Mimi wouldn't have many stories to tell the boy, unfortunately, but she'd probably be interested in him just from seeing how he interacts with people... probably envying him, for being able to approach people like that! That could be a good enough reason for her to approach him, albeit awkwardly. (on the outside "Hi I um, just wanted to say that I think it's great how you make people smile", on the inside "what the hell did I just say? that's so creepy. he's gonna think I'm creepy. oh god") Mimi's normally in the Canopy in Gridania or out gathering ingredients- it's not odd for her to be out gathering rolanberries in Upper La Noscea, since that's a big ingredient for a lot of her fav foods! he doesn't sound annoying tho he sounds absolutely delightful omg

Thank you! @Lamia: Mimi's a fairly shy botanist/chef/fledgling adventurer. She spends most of her time at the Canopy in Gridania, but she often goes out to gather as well. When it comes to interests, she loves baking sweets, gardening, and helping those in need (usually injured people)!

@Thunderbolt300: Sounds great! While Mimi isn't a sucker for free food herself, she wouldn't reject a kind offer. She spends a lot of time in the Canopy, so that would most likely be where they'd meet- as Mimi tends to stay at an empty table or in the corner by herself. Mimifu tends to stay at an inn room rather than camping- but it could happen should she give away all her money to a beggar... Meeting in the Shroud is definitely possible as well if Mimi were gathering seeds, herbs, wood, etc... Her botany and cooking is the main way she makes her gil, which is just enough to help her get by. @Gegenji: Mimi definitely is in Gridania/the Shroud most of the time, but she travels occasionally for quests, as a fledgling adventurer herself. These quests would likely be things like "Healer needed!" as she is a conjurer. She could also be travelling to get certain ingredients, or if she heard any rumors that might be about her missing lalafell mother.

You bring up a lot of important things to think about; thank you! I may actually... combine the sylph thing with what I have, if that makes sense. Maybe her lalafell guardian actually asked the sylphs to solidify her amnesia out of worry for her? With this, the fight against herself will only start once the curse is removed. Perhaps she had repressed memories before but never slept well and couldn't deal with things such as fire or magitech equipment; but with the curse, she could be nervous at worst around them. Of course, I am aware that a shy character can be very difficult to play! I've played a large range of characters in roleplay for the past 8 or 9 years; creating a solid but shy character requires some RP witchcraft indeed. It's certainly something I'm willing to work with/around! Not to mention, she's not shy all the time; if she sees someone who needs help, she'll break that barrier immediately. Of course, she might be a little embarrassed once she snaps out of her "helper" mode... As for amnesia and the possibility of derailing RP; her bringing up her amnesia would require her to be at least somewhat close to someone, and they themselves asking about something that would trigger the conversation. Mimi doesn't like making a scene or having people worry about her; she'd likely talk about the currently unnamed lalafell as if she adopted her when she was an infant, and most people would probably just think she was an orphan unless they purposefully did more digging. Mimi has a good few years on her amnesia as well, so she has other memories to talk about; it shouldn't be very obvious in most circumstances.

Yes, she does live in Gridania now; and she does spend quite a bit of time in the shroud gathering and taking care of smaller jobs. It's entirely possible for her to meet someone out in the shroud! ^^
