That's good- and I certainly agree with what Faye said completely. Just wanted to pop in the thread for one thing though; I wanted to say, good on you for coming to see what you did wrong and get advice. It takes a lot of courage to do so, and even more to admit your mistakes on a public forum. With that said, keep up the courage and the determination to improve, and you'll be able to handle these kinds of situations and more!

Welcome to the RPC! While I'm not new to FFXIV itself, I'm new to the roleplaying community; so I hope my perspective on things can also help- though Lamia basically covered it all pretty well! 1. People here are fairly open to new players, from what I've experienced so far! There's also a lot of other people who just got to Balmung, are starting new characters, or something similar. As long as you put yourself out there, people here are willing to help you and arrange interactions! 2. I did it only a few days ago, and it took only a few minutes for the transfer to go through. A bit expensive if you're only doing one character (like I did, but I'm still on an entry-level subscription after.... over a year). If you think you may ever want an alt, I'd make them all now and let them sit. Balmung is never open. except to my sister, who was able to make a character by just waiting during DAYLIGHT HOURS. and then she deleted it later...... 3. I haven't really met anyone so far who has gotten super upset about it but I haven't been here for very long myself. I think as long as you have a name that fits the character & their backstory, nobody will bug ya too much about it; their characters will ask about it at worst. 4. It depends on your character! Obviously if your character is a historian or something, that might not work out very well... But say someone was submerged with work their whole life, was a slave of some kind, etc etc... Them not knowing much would make sense. Plus like what Lamia said, you'll learn a lot especially in the first part of the MSQ. There's even a timeline on the wiki and plenty of people willing to help you out with it! (Hell, I've learned more about the lore myself through other people's characters.)

I'm pretty sleepy for tonight so I'm just doing a rehaul of my RPC wiki page, thank you all for your offers! The RP has been great so far and I'm excited (and less nervous) to do more~

He sounds like a fun character to be around! Mimi's extremely shy so I think he might be able to open her up a little, haha. I'm comfortable with in-game, Skype, Discord, or forum RP! Mimi wouldn't have many stories to tell the boy, unfortunately, but she'd probably be interested in him just from seeing how he interacts with people... probably envying him, for being able to approach people like that! That could be a good enough reason for her to approach him, albeit awkwardly. (on the outside "Hi I um, just wanted to say that I think it's great how you make people smile", on the inside "what the hell did I just say? that's so creepy. he's gonna think I'm creepy. oh god") Mimi's normally in the Canopy in Gridania or out gathering ingredients- it's not odd for her to be out gathering rolanberries in Upper La Noscea, since that's a big ingredient for a lot of her fav foods! he doesn't sound annoying tho he sounds absolutely delightful omg

Thank you! @Lamia: Mimi's a fairly shy botanist/chef/fledgling adventurer. She spends most of her time at the Canopy in Gridania, but she often goes out to gather as well. When it comes to interests, she loves baking sweets, gardening, and helping those in need (usually injured people)!

@Thunderbolt300: Sounds great! While Mimi isn't a sucker for free food herself, she wouldn't reject a kind offer. She spends a lot of time in the Canopy, so that would most likely be where they'd meet- as Mimi tends to stay at an empty table or in the corner by herself. Mimifu tends to stay at an inn room rather than camping- but it could happen should she give away all her money to a beggar... Meeting in the Shroud is definitely possible as well if Mimi were gathering seeds, herbs, wood, etc... Her botany and cooking is the main way she makes her gil, which is just enough to help her get by. @Gegenji: Mimi definitely is in Gridania/the Shroud most of the time, but she travels occasionally for quests, as a fledgling adventurer herself. These quests would likely be things like "Healer needed!" as she is a conjurer. She could also be travelling to get certain ingredients, or if she heard any rumors that might be about her missing lalafell mother.

You bring up a lot of important things to think about; thank you! I may actually... combine the sylph thing with what I have, if that makes sense. Maybe her lalafell guardian actually asked the sylphs to solidify her amnesia out of worry for her? With this, the fight against herself will only start once the curse is removed. Perhaps she had repressed memories before but never slept well and couldn't deal with things such as fire or magitech equipment; but with the curse, she could be nervous at worst around them. Of course, I am aware that a shy character can be very difficult to play! I've played a large range of characters in roleplay for the past 8 or 9 years; creating a solid but shy character requires some RP witchcraft indeed. It's certainly something I'm willing to work with/around! Not to mention, she's not shy all the time; if she sees someone who needs help, she'll break that barrier immediately. Of course, she might be a little embarrassed once she snaps out of her "helper" mode... As for amnesia and the possibility of derailing RP; her bringing up her amnesia would require her to be at least somewhat close to someone, and they themselves asking about something that would trigger the conversation. Mimi doesn't like making a scene or having people worry about her; she'd likely talk about the currently unnamed lalafell as if she adopted her when she was an infant, and most people would probably just think she was an orphan unless they purposefully did more digging. Mimi has a good few years on her amnesia as well, so she has other memories to talk about; it shouldn't be very obvious in most circumstances.

Yes, she does live in Gridania now; and she does spend quite a bit of time in the shroud gathering and taking care of smaller jobs. It's entirely possible for her to meet someone out in the shroud! ^^

Hi everyone! I'm looking for connections for my painfully shy Mimifu; of any kind. (Note: Wiki page is a WIP and her hair color is different from the screenshots now, oops.) I'll divide up what I'm okay with between friends, enemies, romance, and family. Anything is fine, from casual to very story-heavy roleplaying! Friends Mimi doesn't really have any friends... in fact, as of right now, she has none. She's fairly scared of people, though she is a little more open with lalafells. Not very much though. To become her friend, someone would probably have to push quite a bit, or make a lasting impression; like helping her somehow. Mimi's much too shy to approach people herself unless they're in need of help urgently. Enemies Mimi isn't really the antagonistic type, so an enemy would be rare. However, I'm not against kidnapping plots or the like if discussed beforehand. She does appear rather defenseless (and frankly, is) so it wouldn't be odd for her to be the target of something awful. Of course, if you want there to be a motive behind it that's attached to her backstory, PM me! Because I'm totally down for that. Romance I love romance roleplay. Not just the cute and fluffy parts, but the dark and sad as well. A partner for Mimi would be great and something I welcome! However, I'd love for the romance and stuff to come on slowly. The ideal partner would be a character with a dominant personality, who could even be cruel; but in the end, is protective of who they love. But really, when it comes to love, anything could happen! You don't have to ask my permission to pursue or flirt with Mimi; even dirty comments are fine, if it's what your character would do. Family will be hidden due to character plot spoilers. I know that some people would like to find everything out through roleplay, after all. But the tl;dr is, she could be related to a Raen Au Ra, but the backstories would have to match up pretty well...

Thank you for your input! I definitely do have a goal in mind for what I'm doing; the situation is quite personal to me as someone who has gone head to head with trauma. I definitely agree it can be super eye-roll inducing! My hopes for it is the kind of character development I can see from it. When she remembers her past, will she break, or will it make her stronger? The possibility of it giving her a new goal, one that perhaps she can move forward to with the people she meets.. Of course, there are definitely other ways of getting this effect, but I do feel like this is something I can go deep into as a player. Repressed memories are awful, and they come back in so many different ways.. and I'm almost positive she'll start remembering things as soon as she stops hiding in corners all the time. Seeing it from a different angle definitely helped me think it through more, though, thank you! Of course, there's always her life from before everything went down to think of, too, because she will eventually have to face it. At that point, taking care of parents or running a store- those things would definitely explain some of her hobbies and skills.

GIVE ME THE DRAMA! GIVE ME THE ANGST! Just nothing permanent. Views on IC romance: Oh BOY do I love romance. I'm fine with going up to the borderline of smut. You don't need my permission to pursue, flirt with, or anything with Mimi; just be aware that her reaction may not be what you want it to be, of course. No hard feelings OOC, please; unrequited love happens. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Obviously contact me privately first, but this is all fine, great, wonderful! All kinds of RP are welcome; enemy, ally, or even lost family... though that last thing may be pretty hard considering Mimi's past. Views on lore: Creativity over accuracy, in my opinion! As long as things are logical and fit, a few loopholes or additions are fine with me. I just got done posting at the welcome desk, but I really need some help with my character's backstory. Originally, she was going to be a lalafell... and then I went Au Ra (Raen) and things have been, kind of turned upside down. Some key notes about her: Fairly shy, VERY easily flustered. come hunt me down, flirty characters! Loves cooking, gardening, taking care of people. She'd never turn down a person in need. Even if she wasn't qualified to help them, she'd do anything she could- even hand over her whole wallet... ...leading to our next point that she's kind to a fault. It's not that she doesn't understand the world is harsh, it's that she would rather get screwed over herself than not help someone who needed it. She's more of a foresty person- meaning she hangs out more in the Shroud/Gridania ...She has a Dunesfolk Lalafell name, and I'm keeping it that way! So she was probably raised by a lalafell or given her name by one. She's currently only 18, neutral good. That being said, my main idea here was... amnesia, after the Calamity. I figured it wouldn't be too uncommon for someone to have amnesia after that, from injury or even completely suppressing the memories due to trauma. For Mimifu it's likely the latter. She raised what money she could, getting it anywhere she could legally, to get a boat over to Eorzea... an older lalafell, an adventurer, took her in and moved her to Gridania, but left one day to never come back. Mimifu likely picked up adventuring herself to look for her guardian, but she really likes to just sit back and cook things to support those who go out into battle. If I do go with the amnesia idea, I'll be thinking of what her past would be... because I know, someday, she'll probably remember it. I was just wondering what you seasoned FFXIV roleplayers thought... Is amnesia too cliche? Really just throw any and all ideas at me, whether it's a small suggestion to what I have or a whole new idea entirely. My mind is open for all sorts of criticism and ideas! I'm not too familiar with the lore outside of the main story, especially when it comes to Au Ras... other than the fact that they obviously aren't from the main continent.

Hiya, I'm Dillen, but most people call me by my character's nickname, Mimi. I've been roleplaying the majority of my life; I started roleplay when I was 7, and have done a mixture of styles- but mostly paragraph style and D&D. I'd gotten quite interested in the roleplaying community on FFXIV when I ended up following a lot of you on tumblr, and transferred my main character to Balmung just a few days ago. However... my character and I both are very shy. I have a very hard time just jumping into things, and there's so many different free companies and linkshells that it's overwhelming, and I'm so shy that I get too nervous to contact people about them... orz I'm for sure a heavy roleplayer; I get very emotionally attached to my characters and other people's- of course, this helps me get into character very easily! When it comes to that, some people have even said it worries them how much I can change to play a character... DON'T WORRY GUYS IT'S STILL ME
