Academic RP on Balmung

Hello all,

 

This is my first post apart from my introduction, so please bear with me.

 

I came over from WoW where academic RP was plentiful, and I don't believe I have seen much of it on FFXIV at all. So I would like to know if there are any FCs out there with a focus on academic RP (adacemies, colleges, scholatic events etc).

 

If there are not any, I would like to propose we make one. An Academy of sorts where people can come and listen to lectures and presentations on a variety of subjects. Perhaps we could have regular and specialist classes also.

I think Unsung Heroes is still around; they have an academy structure ICly.

 

Beyond that, there's several groups that have a research focus, depending on what you're looking to do in your RP. The FC I'm in (Mysterium, the Ivory Tower) has a fair bit of magical research and training, but it's not formalized (since we're a society of mages, not a school). Other groups may focus on researching the void, magitek, Allagan technology, and so on.

 

One thing I've not seen a lot of is open symposia and presentations. For a time, there was a lecture series going on in Gridania, but I don't think anything similar exists now. It seems most research-oriented groups keep their studies "in house."

This intrigues me, although I won't be abandoning my FC anytime soon, I don't think I've seen any academic FCs...which you would think would be perfect to collect Arcanists, Crafters, Thaumaturges and possible Astrologians and Machinists...

I've had a loof at Ashen Academy, though it's somewhat similar to what I'm looking for it isn't exactly right for my character.

That was my thinking also! I can wholeheartedly sympathise with not wanting to leave your current FC, perhaps a Linkshell would be appropriate for "part-timers"?

 

 

Due to not finding exactly what I'm looking for I think I will look to create my own FC for this purpose. More details will be posted in another thread ^^

Instead of FC, I'd be willing to have my alt be a member of academy if possible in an LS or something. If anyone thinks of planning this, let me know too. I'd be interested.

Planning this now. Will create the LS first and then the FC so that all interested parties have a chance to talk together.
