Yukimura Hattori Posted January 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2016 Hello everyone! I'm trying to make a character that would be primarily used in a small adventurer group roleplay. I'm hoping to fit him into a story of a few heroes that come together and form a bond as they travel and fight together across Eorzea. I'm new to this site and roleplaying and I'm not very familiar with the lore of FFXIV but I thought I'd give it a try. Name: Yukimura Hattori Age: 22 Gender: Male DOB: 8/26 4th Umbral Moon Race: Miqo'te/Seeker of the Sun Class: Rogue/Adventurer Social Class: Lower Class Education: Know a little about mining from his father Picked up leather working over the years from his mother and while running with the street gang Street smart Picked up some fighting moves while trying to survive on the streets Accomplishments: None Regrets: Joining the gang and not doing enough to help his mother while she was ill, however, will say that he regrets nothing and everything happens for a reason. Secrets: His past (tends to not talk about it as much/leaves out a lot of details) Personality: Yukimura is kind of a lone wolf. He is capable of working with others but often prefers to do things himself and to just be alone. He doesn't talk much and refuses to share his true feelings with others. He often feels out of place and will push other people away before they have the chance to see the "real" him and eventually reject him. Although he may come off as single minded, he is surprisingly quite reasonable. There are times that he can be a bit cold and aggressive, but deep down he is a good person with a wonderful heart. He values friends and family and will do whatever it takes to keep the ones he loves safe. Although he may be quiet in social environments, he does a lot of talking during combat, whether it be taunting the enemy or communicating with his comrades. Dreams: To go out and explore the world and see things that only dreamed of when living in the gutter. He wants to go and see new things and eventually live on the beach so he can watch the sunset with the sand in between his toes. He is tired of a gutter life of struggle in the busy city and wants to escape to his own paradise. Likes: Beaches Freedom Exploring Friendship Gil Fighting Open space Dislikes: Being alone/absolutely nobody to call friend or family Being at the bottom (Wants to be on top financially) Cocky people Backstory Yukimura grew up in a small rundown home in the rotten streets of Ul'dah. His father was a miner and did everything he could to help provide for his family but later realized that it wasn't enough. Along with working in the mines he turned to a life of crime and became a common thief and stole whatever he could that would go for a nice profit. While Yukimura's father was either out in the mines or the streets his mother tended to the house and did everything she could to make the best of what little they had. She would make do with the little scraps of food her husband was able to bring home and always made sure her son had food in his stomach. Yukimura was no stranger to suffering and spent most of his childhood in hardship but never seemed to care because he was always taught that family is the most important thing and as long as they were together life would be worth living. At the age of 13 things took a turn for the worst when Yukimura's fathered decided to work an extra night shift in the mines and died when it collapsed. With the thought of his father dying alone in a dark cave, Yukimura soon fell into a deep depression but his mother always seemed to find a way to cheer him up even though she was also struggling with the loss of her husband and lack of income needed to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. After 4 long years of financial struggling and emotional torment, Yukimura's mother became violently ill and died due to the lack of proper medical care. With no other family and no money, Yukimura spent 5 miserable months begging and sleeping on the streets until he was brought in by a local street gang that took him in with open arms. Another 3 years went by and Yukimura sent his days as nothing more that a common thug. He mugged, vandalized, burglarized, and even killed the innocent people of Ul'dah but he didn't care. For the first time in years, he had a family. Later down the line he was told to teach a local family a lesson for not paying the gang the protection money they felt they deserved. After arriving at the house he watched the poor family cower in fear and began taking things that might catch a good price. After looking around the small home, he realized that they were in a similar situation as he was in years ago he decided to let them keep what little they had and skip town with hope that they would never see his gang again. Knowing that the current path he is taking would bring nothing but heartbreak to his parents, he left the gang and spent the last two years doing small jobs and using what little he makes renting rooms at local inns. So there it is. I know the name doesn't really fit in with my race but I LOVE Samurai Warriors and decided to take the names of my two favorite characters and mix them. I know there are a lot of things I need to work on with this character so if you have any ideas on things I should change please feel free to let me know. I really hope you enjoy my idea for this guy and I hope I can find a group that would have a spot for him. Thank you for your time! Link to comment
Caspar Posted January 2, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2016 As you are already aware, people like the canon naming scheme. If he is using an alias, you could possibly still use the name, though. Perhaps try to think of a way you could merge the explanation into his backstory. Using other characters names is always a strange feeling for me. On the rare occasion I get the urge to tribute, I don't want constant comparison to the originals. So I often give tribute through very subtle means, maybe through their birthday, past exploits or aesthetics. Perhaps that would be something too. I wonder if you could use an alternate reading for Yukimura. Link to comment

One of the main reasons why I want to use the name Yukimura is because it is the current name of one of my characters I plan to transfer to Balmung and I don't wanna pay the extra fee for a name change along with the transfer fee but you're right. So I'll go with your idea with the alias. I can find a proper name that fits a Miqo'te and say that after losing his parents and being alone for awhile he decided to change his name so he can try to forget his past and "start over" I think if I try to do it that way I can have a character that will eventually learn to move on and truly accept the things that happened. Maybe in the end he'll learn that it isn't about who you were but what you become and believe that he was destined to be Yukimura or something lol. Idk that may be a bit cheesy but I might have to stick with that. Do you think this would fit into my backstory and give other players something to look into if they wind up forming a deeper connection with my character? Or do you think I should do something else? Do you have any idea's on past exploits that I could use? Link to comment
