Kage Posted February 1, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 1, 2016 Regarding the Resumption of Sales and Discontinuation of Refunds for the Mac Version To customers who purchased the previous Mac version of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, Square Enix extends our sincere apologies for any inconvenience stemming from the unclear communication about the system requirements. We have since conducted thorough tests—using a variety of hardware and system environments—and would like to announce the updated system requirements for the pending re-release of the Mac version. In order to ensure an optimal experience while playing the game, please be sure to use the recommended models listed in the following table. Minimum system requirements OS: Mac OS X 10.11/10.11.1/10.11.2/10.11.3 * We have confirmed operation on Mac OS X 10.10.2 and beyond, but there have been reports of OS issues on 10.10.4/10.10.5 which causes the program to not boot when it is first launched. Due to this, we recommend running the program on 10.11 (El Capitan). Free disk space: 30GB Internet: Persistent broadband internet connection Notes: * On systems with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M, GeForce GT 755M or GeForce GT 750M graphics chips, we have confirmed that a display issue occurs when continuously changing the screen resolution. This is directly attributed to an issue with the drivers for these graphics chips. We are currently investigating this matter with NVIDIA, and are working with them to have them address this issue. Until they have released a fix to address the issue, please avoid changing the screen resolution continuously. If you encounter this issue, simply restart the game to resume normal operation. * Specs are subject to change in the future. * While we have confirmed operation of the game is possible on the MacBook Pro, due to extraordinary heat generated during gameplay, we have taken the precautionary measure of not adding the machine to the list of applicable models. Your understanding is appreciated. - Features of the Mac version The Mac version of FINAL FANTASY XIV was developed as an application that would only run on the Mac OS. For the development of the Mac version, we utilize third party porting middleware. Unlike the Windows version, which runs in a DirectX environment, the Mac version runs under OpenGL. Due to limitations in the architecture of these environments, rendering characteristics of FINAL FANTASY XIV, key assignments, Japanese language IME settings, performance and interface may differ from that of the Windows version with similar specs. Your understanding in this matter is appreciated. If the game is running on a Mac machine that does not meet the above system requirements, performance may be significantly lower than that of the Windows version of the game. When purchasing the game, please ensure that your machine meets the system requirements above. We would like to officially announce that we will be resuming the sales of the Mac version on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 after we have made sure to clearly communicate the required and recommended system requirements on retail sites including the Square Enix Online Store and other retailers. To coincide with the date that sales resume, we will be ending the refund support for those who have purchased the Mac version on or before July 4, 2015, on Sunday, February 21, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. (PST).
