The previous thread has been archived. This thread contains the updates IC and OOC rules as well as the IC circumstances surrounding the Runestone.) Scattered about the streets of the three city-states, Mor Dhona and the stones of Ishgard, numerous gilded scrolls inviting all to attend a competition of arcane and aetheric might! ________________________________________________________________ The Runestone is open to all competitors with magical skill and interested spectators, though entrance into the tournament binds all to the rules listed below. These rules were previously set by Fidalgo Reiner Dorn of Ala Mhigo, but have been expanded or altered under the oversight of the Curator, Leah Leyweaver and her Overseer, Sae. At least two Staff members shall be upon the tournament grounds to facilitate entrance of all combatants, as well as to ensure all rules are understood and equipment distributed. Current official Runestone Staff follow: Curator: Leah Leyweaver. The Curator is the face and the leader of the Runestone, managing the event and providing magical expertise and support to those she hosts. Leah is also a skilled healer, standing ready to assist in the case of any accidents. Overseer of the Runestone: Sae ((OOCly: Tahni’sae Farreihm)). The Overseer is the enforcer of Runestone rules and the protector of all it’s combatants and spectators alike. Warden of the Runestone: Sekha Saialdhe. Wardens will step into oversee brackets of the tournament as needed, as well as assist in keeping the peace and addressing concerns. As the Wardens are only around to assist the Curator and Overseer as needed, Wardens will be allowed to participate in the competition on weeks in which they are not acting in an official capacity. To further your research and studies, a stipend of 100,000g shall be delivered to the Champion of the Runestone each week. On every 5th and 10th week, the Champion will face a chance to increase earnings with a final challenging battle! Location and Time: ((Important: THE MYSTIC RUNESTONE IS MOVING. Starting on 10/1 the Runestone will be moved AWAY from Fesca’s Wash to MOR DHONA. If any lower-level player needs assistance reaching the aetheryte, please contact one of the listed Staff in the days preceding the event.)) To find the tournament, please seek out what we are calling the The Hull. It is located at Mor Dhona ( 24.2 , 10.3 ) at 8pm EST every Sunday! Rest assured this location is free of roaming monsters and other dangers. Should anyone want or need to secure safe travel to Mor Dhona, please contact one of the listed Staff above. This location provides sanctuary from the direct jurisdiction of any City-State, and the aetherically charged surroundings shall provide a buffer for the land should any untoward magicks be cast. Rules: All combatants shall be given upon entering the tournament a . This artifact shall protect the wearer from three direct attacks of magic. It shall be recharged when, and only when, a mage moves forward to a subsequent round, and shall be collected from each contestant upon their loss. Attacking after an opponent’s has broken is forbidden and shall bring the interdiction of the spell and the offending caster. The wins are determined when the is broken of its three shelled layers. The arena square is warded to prevent loose spells from escaping into spectator areas, though be mindful of other combatants. This contest shall be heavily monitored by the Overseer and Wardens. They enforce every rule listed and the word of the Curator of the Runestone. The Overseer and Wardens act as rule of law when at the Runestone. Use of offensive magic prior to or after combat shall bring the Wardens to remove you from the grounds. Physical contact of any kind is forbidden. Summoning is allowed but control must be shown and maintained. Open use of void powers and the casting of “Forbidden magics” are not truly prohibited, though, all those that would wield these powers will draw the attention of the masses, and protection will not be provided outside of official Runestone combat. Live animals are not permitted as familiars. In addition, they are not to be intentionally harmed during the Runestone. ________________________________________________________________ The System: The Combat system relies on the /RANDOM feature in the game’s chat system. This feature will be used for all combat rolls. Combat is broken down into a few simple steps. Both opponents /RANDOM. The highest roll wins and attacks first. The attacking player writes their post in a custom emote using /em. After posting, they /RANDOM. The defending player will /RANDOM to defend. If the defending roll is equal to or higher than the attack roll, they successfully defend. If the defending roll is lower than the attack roll, the attack hits. The defender makes an emote in /em, depicting the results of the attack as well as their attempted return attack. After posting, they /RANDOM. The two players continue this pattern until the end of the match, switching off between attacking and defending. First person to successfully land 3 attacks wins the match. Extra Rules: Should anyone get disconnected or was forced out of game for whatever reason are given five minutes after their toon disappears to log back in to continue their fight. If they are not logged in on time, the other combatant will be declared the winner and will move on to the next round. If there is a fight that goes on beyond an hour and if there are people waiting to for a match, the duel will go into sudden death where a combatant's next successful attack roll will be declared the winner. OOC Notes: The combat for Mystic Runestone is the tried and true method used in other competitions and your average duel. Through the use of the mages can fight without worry of the debilitating effects of their spells. This is not your brawlers bloodbath, but a true artists competition to test new spells and powers. Taking into account the lore that mage classes have a far higher magic defense and access to protective spells, defensive emotes can be quite imaginative from a simple Shell spell to protect your own layers, or even countering a fireball by transposing or reversing it. Though the Runestone is purely magical, hybrid classes -can- attend but must fight without physical attacks. Handcasters and Bladecasters shall be allowed to participate, though this may change if problems arise. The Shell Necklaces: Through the use of the Shell Necklaces, mages can fight without worry of the debilitating effects of their spells. Each necklace has 3 charges and will completely protect the wearer from the offensive effects of any 3 spells. For example, if a person casts a fireball, the fireball will hit and break the shell but not harm the wearer. This works of other sort of spells as well: Should a mage cast Bio, then the coalescing aether of the spell will come together and be impeded by the shell, which will break. The instant effect of Bio still will not harm the wearer. PLEASE NOTE that canonically this allows for each player to keep their characters completely unscathed during these battles. However, should a player so chose, they may allow for the shells to inhibit the bulk of the spell and still have their character inflicted with minor wounds. This is up to the wearer, and the Curator is at hand to assist in these cases. SHOULD THIS OPTION BE TAKEN TO EXTREMES we reserve the right to remove it to prevent unwanted chaos at the event. The Location: We have decided on the area outside of Mor Dhona’s SE gate for the new location of the Runestone (Starting 10/1). There are many IC and OOC reason s for this, the most notable of which is that this provides an IC venue in which the laws of the City-States do not apply. Mor Dhona is under the jurisdiction of the adventurer’s guild and thus the prohibitions against certain types of forbidden magicks are more lax. This allows the Runestone to continue to be open to those who would use White, Black, Corrupted, or Void-tainted magicks in their competitions without hindering the immersion and IC actions of other player characters. PLEASE NOTE that while this allows Runestone to provide asylum for active combatants, once a combatant has lost, won, or left the area of the Runestone, they are vulnerable to being hunted down for their disciplines. Consider this both and IC and OOC warning that some characters may choose to do this. If you do not want to accept the consequences of exposing yourself to this, it is recommended that your character lies and announces a different magical style as their discipline of choice. Attacking and defending: All attacks are attempts and all defenses are according to the rolls. Taking into account the flexible and expansive lore of aether use and mages’ access to protective spells, defensive emotes can be quite imaginative from a simple Shell spell to protect your own Shell Necklace layers, or even countering a fireball by transposing or reversing it. Attacks may be equally as varied and creative. We encourage all participants to think outside the box in the scope of their character’s disciplines! Casters/Classes allowed: Although this is a purely magical tournament, hybrid/other classes are allowed to compete so long as they refrain from any sort of physical attack or contact with their opponent. For example: a Monk may purely use their Chakra up close. A Ninja may rely entirely on mudras and other aether-based techniques. A Paladin may rely on their spell repertoire. So long as you can make it work within the lore of your class without physically touching your opponent, you may enter. Lore-friendly + RP-friendly RP: Many things were allowed at the Runestone before we came on the scene, and many Runestone regulars, who were regulars before we became leaders, were given more leeway than we would otherwise have given them due to their long-time attendance and our belief that they were beloved by other attendees. However, this will no longer be the case. Users of lore-breaking, ridiculous or otherwise RP-hostile magics will no longer be suffered to compete. While still wanting to keep people's freedoms intact, we're drawing a harder line. I WILL be cracking down on various more ridiculous uses of magic combat at the Runestone, such as the following: "Ghost magic" "Hat Magic" "Soul Stealing" Mind Control None of these would be both acceptable in lore and acceptable in terms of RPing combat, in that they are too likely to be used to god-mode or power-play your opponent. While our arbitrary Runestone rules help keep that from being an issue at the event, we don't want to encourage the use of RP tools that would otherwise drive ourselves or others to avoid Rping with such characters. We reserve the right to expand this list should further problems arise. Staff Power: Finally, we want to make an explicit note that during the Runestone all staff have final say on any complaints, concerns, issues, and OOC or IC conflicts at our event. We are the peacekeepers, but we can only keep the peace if other RPers work with us. By attending this event you are accepting that should the Curator, Overseer, or Wardens need to subdue or remove your character they may do so without rolls or consent. RP requires conflict, tension, and differing side to be interesting, but this event also needs a level of control and organization to happen. We will NEVER kill anyone’s character without consent, and we are careful in discerning when our executive power needs to be utilized. However, it does not matter who your character is or how powerful they may or may not be. At the Runestone, Overseer Rules. 1 Link to comment
