Yhano Posted December 28, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 28, 2018 Hey all! I'm new to... all of the FFXIV-related RP, though new to neither of those things individually. Gonna go with the template just to make my life a bit easier for this. MMORPG background In terms of playing the games? Not especially extensive, though I've been playing FFXIV for a good while now (about a year, plus about six months back during 2.0-2.1). In terms of rping in an MMO? Completely nonexistent. RP experience Lots. I've been RPing for over fifteen years, but entirely on forums and primarily—though certainly not exclusively—in the Pern fandom. I currently admin on one forum, and am definitely looking forward to RPing somewhere that doesn't involve me herding cats. Except for my character. Who is a Miqo'te and therefore sort of a cat. Character ideas/info S'yhano is a former adventurer in his mid-30s who settled down in La Noscea as a charcoal burner after his husband was killed by a voidsent. He works hard to suppress a vicious temper, and appears calm and soft spoken, albeit clearly neither particularly well-educated or well-mannered. In short: I've got who the character is very well figured out (there's a whole history; I'll probably try to format a wiki page pretty soon), but what he's up to now is what I don't know yet. How did you learn about the coalition? From a Discord server I'm in. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? (e.g. Light, medium, or heavy) I'm honestly not sure what those buckets are meant to represent. As mentioned above, I don't have any experience with in-game RP, or with any format other than forum-based. (I'm not quite old enough to have been around for when MUSH was the most popular format, though I was always aware of it.) I'm also a little limited in that my main is on Siren, and I am not willing to transfer or leave my current (non-RP) FC. I have an alt clone on Balmung, but he's not through ARR yet, and I spend most of my time on Siren. I prefer probably fairly midcore-to-casual, since I do work a full-time job and have other commitments. I'm pretty on board with being lore-heavy and with long-running storylines, I just can't commit to specific times and don't know how important that is in this format. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc.) By profession, I'm a software engineer. I like building things, and software counts as things and unlike other engineering fields, will actually take a college dropout. For fun, I like to learn about languages and linguistics. I have a formant speech synthesis program I've been slowly improving, and I also do some conlanging. I'm fluent in English (obviously) and Norwegian, can understand Spanish (but speak it horribly), and can understand some Japanese, Mandarin, and Swahili. However, unlike Japanese where I can read at an early elementary level, I can't read any Mandarin, as what I know is all verbal from coworkers teaching me at lunch. I obviously play video games and write, as well as do some watercolor art (badly), blacksmith (less badly), make costumes, and play the cello. I also watch a lot of sports, and most of my art is done while watching. Mostly it's football (Chicago Bears), soccer (San Jose Earthquakes), and hockey (San Jose Sharks). Link to comment
voidVirago Posted December 28, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 28, 2018 Welcome to the wild world of FFXIV RP! And MMO RP as a whole! I see you're on Siren, but if you're interested in getting a foot in the door on Balmung, I've got plenty of characters to meet, or we can get some Discord RP going! Regardless, I wish you the best of luck on your journey ^^ Link to comment
Yhano Posted December 31, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted December 31, 2018 Yeah, I'm definitely open to spending more time on Balmung (and Mateus, but that not until after the DC rebalancing since the character I plan to move there is currently on Sargatanas). As I mentioned, I legitimately don't know how the other rp formats that aren't forums actually work. Is Discord basically used like a forum or is it done more chat-style? Link to comment
Branson Thorne Posted December 31, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 31, 2018 Either or, really. Discord can really be whatever and however, you want to use it. And welcome to the forums! Link to comment
