Led by Aedan Marceaux, the company is based in the Lavender Beds. It is from here that they operate, taking on dangerous, but lucrative, leves and contracts all across Hydaelyn. Whether it’s delving into ruins for a lost relic, taking out any manner of vicious man or beast, or hunting down the occasional void the company is never wanting for work. Fliers are posted in all city-states and most popular taverns in an attempt to catch the eye of the wandering adventurer in search of gil, glory, and adventure. OOC Black Griffin Adventuring Company is an adventure themed Roleplaying Company on the Balmung server, Crystal datacenter. We are a group of like-minded adults who enjoy the game through roleplay and everything else it offers. We even like each other so much we like to play other games together! We are understanding of people having lives outside of the game as many, if not all, of us also have children, full time jobs and other responsibilities that take our time. As such, we strive to make a welcoming and fun environment for all of our members to enjoy with what limited time they may have away from said responsibilities. While some members may be on at different points of the day depending on their own personal responsibilities, the large amount of activity, or peak time, for the company occurs in the evenings from about **7:00 PM to 11:00 PM CST.** What we are looking for... Aside from characters and players that match the above... Black Griffin is primarily an RP company. As such, we are looking for players that wish to join us, primarily, in our RP adventures. Several of our members do enjoy other aspects (such as raiding, dungeons, maps, pvp) of the game, as well, but our focus is on RP. We do have an OOC rank for those that wish to join us but not RP, but this is generally limited to friends and family of current members. The characters in the company can be described as “good leaning” at the very least. What this means is that while characters with grey or darker morales can join the company, they may have a hard time fitting in as the company’s goal is to make the world a better place. We are looking for players that are active and engaging. While we don't have an attendance policy of any sort, nor force people to join in on events, we firmly believe that you only get out of a company what you're willing and able to put in. As such, if you join us but don’t play with us either through RP or otherwise, you're not likely to get much enjoyment out of being in the company. To go along with the above sentiment, we do not spoon feed people RP. If you are looking for a company where RP will just land in your lap with no effort on your part, it’s best to look somewhere else. Our officers plan two weekly events (1 RP, 1 PvE with an additional social RP event to be added at least once a month) for the company to participate in as they can. All members are encouraged to create events and RP on days outside of those officer-led events. And finally, we are looking to remain a relatively small company. While we appreciate some people's desire to join a company with dozens upon dozens of members on at all times, we feel that members just start to become nameless numbers lost in a crowd. To that end, while we don't really have a particular hard cap in mind at this point, we can't imagine having more than maybe twenty active members at once. General - A few more have joined our craziness and we are still open to having more join in on the fun! We still believe that now is one of the better times to get out there and look for an RP FC as we are currently in that pre-expansion lull. No new PvE or otherwise content, so aside from leveling alts or finishing relics (or chasing down Ultimate clears), there's not much to do other than RP. So, if you're looking for a place to call home to be able to settle in before the new expansion drops, now is a good time to maybe consider us! We believe that we are a friendly place for both new players and veterans alike. We enjoy helping people flesh out their characters and figure out their place in the lore. We enjoy helping people progress through the content at their own pace. So if you're new to the world of FFXIV, a returner, or even a veteran and you're looking for a laid back RP FC to call home, you might consider giving us a shot! RP - Our weekly events continue to take place. We hold an adventure-themed event that uses our in house roll system as well as a social gathering event every week. Beyond that, we encourage members to RP between events, host their own events, and RP in discord at their leisure. PvE - We still get together to knock about some pixels for loot and progression. As mentioned above, we're happy to help new players and veterans alike progress through the game be it through main story questlines or even end game raiding, and everything in between. We also enjoy the occasional mount farm and map run. Outside of the game - Our discord is still very active, posting updates, discussing lore, helping flesh out characters, and just generally shooting the shit. General - We've added another name or two to the roster since our last update, so a warm welcome to them! We are still very much open and looking for more that wish to join us on our adventures. As mentioned before, we believe this is as good a time as any to join a roleplaying free company as we are neck deep in the pre-expansion lull. There is a lot of excitement building for Endwalker, but no real new content in the game right now... which means plenty of time to RP! Naturally, you can also spend that time catching up on content, gearing, mount farming, etc.... and we do all of that, too! We are open and friendly to new players and veterans alike. We enjoy helping people find their place in the game by aiding them through content or even helping to flesh out their characters and learn the lore that's pertinent to that cause. So if you're new and have no clue what you're doing, don't let our "lore strictness" scare you off! We promise to help you figure it all out! RP - As before, our weekly events are still happening. We usually hold adventure-themed, out in the world RP events on Saturdays and our more laid back, social events in the middle of the week on Wednesdays. We do shift those days around from time to time to help accommodate those with varying schedules. We currently have two continuous stories going on. We wouldn't label them as grand story archs, but they're not one-off adventures, either. They're somewhere in a happy middle place where the stories will span three or four (sometimes more) events. Beyond that, we always encourage any and all members to feel free to host their own events and we are always happy to step in and help them set them up should it be needd. PvE - A lot of our members are catching up with the MSQ, leveling alts, doing roulettes and raids for gear. We are always happy to help our members progress however we can, often holding weekly events with a focus on PvE. Outside of the game - We play games together outside of FFXIV, as well! Lately, our obsession has been Aliens: Fireteam Elite, but we enjoy all sorts of different genres. We've played Valheim, Tribes of Midgard, Overcooked 2, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Out of Space, and a number of other games together, as well. Our discord still remains our main source of organization. All of our events are posted on our discord using a easy to use bot. We also have our roll system and related discussion threads posted there. And, of course, our general banter, spoilers chats, lore discussions, voice chats and more all very much active in their proper channels. General - Again, a few more names have joined the roster since our last update. As always, a warm welcome to them. We are still open and looking for more! However, our recruitment will take a small pause once Endwalker is released. This is to allow current members to take a break from the RP (if they desire) and focus, instead, on all of the new content, lore, and story that is presented to us in what SquareEnix has called their biggest expansion. During this pause, we will still accept applications and people into our discord to talk with the officer core and ask questions, but we will not actively proceed with the interview and induction into the company process. Our recruitment will remain open, but the inviting into the FC will be paused for a roughly two week period. So, if you are interested in joining the company or finding a home before the expansion releases, act fast! You have a little less than a month to go! We take in new players and veterans alike, enjoy helping people through content, help people flesh out their characters (without hand holding - after all, we want it to be your character, not ours), and all around just hang out with one another in game and in discord. So don't let our decision to abide by the lore as strictly as we can scare you off! We will work with you and help you find a way to fit in. RP - Our weekly events are continuing to happen. We have two events geared toward RP. The first is a social night wherein we stray away from adventuring and instead sit back and enjoy one another's company. Usually this takes the form of a "pub crawl" of sorts, though we have held beach parties and friendly sparring competitions as well! Our second RP event type is the adventuring sort. Generally these events happen out in the open world and are themed around adventuring akin to leves and guildhests. The officer team has decided to shift to a biweekly scheduling of adventure-themed events to help avoid burnout. What this means is that officer-led adventure themed events will take place every other week, instead of weekly. As always, though, we encourage any and all of our members to host events themselves. PvE - As mentioned before, we have members leveling and catching up with the MSQ, finishing out raid series and gear sets, wrapping up relic chains, and even running old content for transmogs and mounts. We hold a weekly PvE event wherein we tackle just about anything the game has to offer in a casual atmosphere - usually this is maps but we have done extreme mount farming and the like, as well. As always, we have a good group of people willing to step in and help out with all manner of things. Outside of the game - We continue to play games outside of FFXIV together, as well. Most recently, we played Valheim together and had a load of fun. This, of course, may also go on hold for a brief time as we all focus on the new expansion, but will most certainly come back once we've settled in. Our discord is still very much active and is where we mainly organize everything that we do. Voice chat is relatively active on a daily basis, discussions on lore and spoilers (in appropriate channels), sharing of art and real life pictures... all the usual discord stuff! As mentioned in the previous update, we are still open and recruiting more, but there will be a pause once Endwalker is released (starting on early access: December 3). The pause is to allow officers and current members alike a chance to engage in the new content offered by the expansion. The pause will likely last about two weeks. During this time, we will still be accepting applications and welcoming guests into our discord to speak with officers, however we will not be pressing forward with the interview process until the pause is lifted. RP - Even leading up to the expansion we are still planning our weekly events. We generally have two events geared toward RP. The first type is a social night wherein we hold a come and go, no obligations get together somewhere in the world. Often times this is held at other establishments such as pubs and bars that are active at the same time as our event, though we have also done it in our company house a few times as well as out in the world at beaches and the like. The second event type is our adventure-themed events wherein our company heads out into the world and does adventuring-type work akin to what one would do with leves and guildhests. The vast majority of these events are held out in the open world, rather than tucked away in housing areas and dungeons. The officer team has opted to lead these sorts of events every other week rather than weekly to help avoid burn out. That said, we always encourage our members to lead their own events and fill in the gaps when they would like. PvE - We've had a number of successful map nights since the last update which were fun. Unfortunately, RNG didn't side with us and get us to the last summon/floor, but it was still fun all the same. We have a helpful group of people willing to step in and help people run through content, farm tomes, do roulettes, and all manner of PvE together. Outside of the game - We're still gaming outside of FFXIV together, as well. We have a Valheim world that we mess around in every now and again, we've started playing Back 4 Blood with one another, and fairly recently have actually started a D&D campaign through roll20 with our members. Our discord remains the hub of our organization and general banter. We poke fun at one another, post memes, share recipes and real life photos, discuss lore, and much more all within our discord. It's time to get back to business as usual! We hope you all had a good holiday season and wish everyone a happy New Years Eve and Day! General - We've had enough time to fully interact with all the expansion has to offer and are completely open for new members once more! We weren't exactly closed before, but between trying to delve into the new content and also dealing with vacations and the like, there was a small delay in the process being completed. That's all done now so our application and interview process is back to operating as normal! We take in new players and veterans alike, enjoy helping people through content, help people flesh out their characters (without hand holding - after all, we want it to be your character, not ours), and all around just hang out with one another in game and in discord. So don't let our decision to abide by the lore as strictly as we can scare you off! We will work with you and help you find a way to fit in. RP - Much like our recruiting, our events took a small pause while we dove into Endwalker and took vacations for the holidays. We are now back to posting them as usual. In general we hold two types of RP events. The first is a casual, social night where we often visit other establishments and hang out ICly for a few hours. The second is an adventure-themed event wherein we head out into the open world and do some adventuring akin to leves and guildhests. The officers usually post the social event weekly and, to avoid burnout, the adventuring event biweekly. We always encourage our members to host their own events as they feel comfortable, as well. PvE - As with our RP events, our PvE events took a small pause but have started up again. While we wait for the new maps to have portals (6.05!) we have begun running the new raids together as well as roulettes. Outside of the game - Gaming outside of FFXIV does continue to happen, especially when the queues and errors were mean to us. Any number of games on Steam and Epic are usually our choices, though we do also have an in house D&D campaign going on on Roll20, as well! We continue to use our discord to organize our events and chat with one another throughout the day. Naturally, a lot of discussion has taken place over the past few weeks in our ffxiv-spoilers channel, but we also have general banter, IC channels for RP while away from the game, lore discussion, and much more! This one will be quite a big one (with regard to importance, not so much length). The members of our company have gotten together and decided to do a bit of restructuring of the company as a whole. We no longer consider ourselves a roleplaying company, but rather a company with roleplayers in it. What this means is that though there are members in our company that do enjoy roleplaying, be it in game or elsewhere, the main focus of the company is no longer roleplay. We, instead, are focusing on the game in a more general sense. We are wanting to shift gears and instead have our company be a community where any and all (within reason) are welcome to join, no matter their stance on roleplay or even lore. Yes, you read that correctly. We are no longer "policing" lore. To be completely transparent with all of this, those of us running events have become burned out on doing so or have other obligations (usually real life business) that pulls us away from being able to do so with any sort of real enthusiasm and energy. As such, our shift in our focus. So, unlike all of the posts above, there isn't an RP section to discuss as we no longer really hold weekly events. That isn't to say we don't allow it, it's just not our focus anymore. Members are still welcome to do so if they wish, however. PvE will begin to be a little more of a focus now and will likely see an increase in events being posted. Naturally, this will start with the easier stuff such as maps and raids, but as interest and membership grows, I imagine statics for extremes and savages could be a potential future. Our discord will remain our main source of organization and banter. We still enjoy each other enough to play games outside of FFXIV together. Those listed previously are still our usual hits with a few new ones sprinkled in every now and again. We also have an in house D&D 5e campaign going! So, our usual bulleted list, but shorter and ... sweeter? Active players seeking to enjoy all the game has to offer. Players seeking to join a company of like-minded adults just trying to have fun. New players and veterans alike. 18+ as themes of our conversations and the like can often skew toward being adult-oriented.
