Seeking like-minded role-players on Balmung!

This seems to be almost exactly what I want to get out of my RP, but there are a few things Iffy about..

One-mood-characters are fun to interact with occasionally, but having them around constantly certainly does get tiring.

Very good. I love more casual group dynamics.  Power differences tend to create and reinforce cliques within the group.  (and I am very anti-cliques)

Well, I do have to admit that I have given my character a single gimmick, but it was more out of necessity than wanting to make a special snowflake. :T (Trust me, my character and I both would love it if I didn't have to use it.)

But!

It is mentioned within the lore (to a degree), and it does a marvelous job at being the catalyst for her decision to become an adventurer.

Tssk.  I am very understanding when it comes to stuff like this, but I would prefer it if there was an IC reason for why someone has to leave for a bit.

 

I am a self-proclaimed method RPer, and the word "scene" scares me a bit.  When an RP tends to feel too scheduled,  I lose engagement fast. I want to experience what my character experiences, and vice versa.  And this exchange in experiences is what fuels my character's reactions.  So, if I experience the passage of time, I want my character to feel that too.

This makes it difficult for me to just press "pause" (well, a short pause to evade out wait out griefers, or to deal with some small RL BS is fine.  But) if we're strolling along, hunting in the black shroud, and someone remembers they have to be at a party in 45 minutes, or someone gets involved in something big, and then has to go on a planned vacation in the middle of it, I very much do not want to have to stop time for that.

I am not much for the bar scene IRL, and I'm even less so ICly.

Although, ironically, my first bit of XIV RP was in a tavern, but booze and tales of her heroics (lol) was the last thing on her mind when she decided to enter it.

Also, it was my first (not totally awful) RP session ever! Grats u silly man u.

I've seen far too many RP communities get destroyed by having the population divided among small cliques.  So, when creating my character, I made her so she couldn't dare rely on one group of people. Instead, she gets to experience all sorts of folk!

And while she does get to make friends, and go on adventures, she can never stay too long, and she could not ask for others to come with her.

Oooh, very cool! What you've described is what myself and my group of people look for in RP and general partnership within an MMO. You might want to check us out. And I realize not everyone might not be interested in joining a dedicated group (or has already), so we're totally up to just working together with whoever to get some really awesome RP done. So, feel free to drop us a line any time.

 

Aside from that, it's good to see this sort of stuff really sparking an interest. It'll be great to see more of the style of attitude within this community of RPers.

All three of my characters would fit in it. Although Lost River might be a bit of a curiosity as she comes from the previous catastrophe and it has colored her insight.

When I first created this project I was expecting a handful of role-players to get involved, though I'm very pleased to see that the response has been stronger than expected. To prevent things getting too chaotic, however, I'll be closing the linkshell recruitment when we hit 25 members. It's a tough decision, but I want to ensure that everyone involved so far is able to get to know each other IC and OOC. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

 

 

This is a tough decision to make though it will be a temporary thing. There's still a few places left so those who still need to be invited can get in touch with me for an invitation. Again, I apologise if this seems a tad chaotic and messy - I just feel if I don't do this now the project will move too far away from the close knit character driven role-play it was created for.

(For those who are interested, just before maintenance we had 21 people in the LS, but as far as I know, 2 were alts, so there were 19. I'm not sure how many of you who posted here aren't in the LS yet.)

But it's maintenance now, and I won't be able to log in again until late tomorrow so I bet it'll be full. Grats to everyone who got in on this though. n__n Happy to see this sort of concept thrive.

That's a good point, actually. J'hared, you should keep in mind how many people have alts in the LS and exclude those alts from the 25 limit. It wouldn't be fair to others to have it capped at 25 and find out that someone has three separate characters in the LS; that's two slots that aren't being filled by others.

Besides, J'hared Nunh happened to save R'edh and his close friend Rubh'a in the heat of battle (pun maybe intended???), so maybe something like that would be good for a plot...somehow.

Now now, don't talk like that! We think everyone has something to contribute; it's just that we don't want to bite more than we can chew and make sure that we're getting to know each and every member of the group, not to mention having them feel comfortable. That doesn't mean we don't wanna know you either! <3 I'm usually around when J'hared is not or at very late/early hours of the day so I'd be more than happy to meet your characters/start making some RP ties to those who want to test the waters or have a solid story before joining; not to mention inviting fresh-faced members as well! Now that he doesn't have to do it all by himself, I think it's possible to actually move forward and start opening our arms to new members. He's also expressed that anyone who already posted in this thread should also be extended an invitation as well.

 

I'm still logging the characters and their alts but you are totally right, we're not counting the alts when we're considering the 'limit' because that wouldn't be fair at all! I'm not sure how many slots are prepared (I've talked him into stretching that '25' limit, hehe) but I'll be sure to keep you all posted! I believe we're at twenty at the moment? But at this time, we're not really keeping the quantity as much as the quality we can keep to ensure that we just don't have anyone feel like they're just a faceless member that feels like they're not part of the group. I think J'hared is gonna be around mostly during the day but I'm usually the night owl except on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so if any of you are up late/into the wee hours of the morning - don't hesitate to contact me!
