Mongoose Posted September 25, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2013 Hi, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has transitioned from a PS-3 game controller to a FFXIV Keyboard. I launched the Mac Client for the first time. It works great, but I was DOA soon as the game launched. I failed to have a keyboard layout to look at. Had to pull a web page with the layout just to exit the game. I can type over 100 wpm, but, it looks to me, like this will be like learning to type all over. Maybe a FFIXV key chart on the other monitor or printout is best. For what it's worth, I'm a new level-20 gladiator, and decided to acquire archer skills; so I'm also a lowly level 4-Archer. Maybe the less challenging level 4 is best for transitioning to a keyboard. If there is a good FFXIV keyboard chart already published, I'd appreciate a link. The one I found so far has arrows all over the place and surely there's something better out there. Thanks again, for a fantastic web site!!! The Mongoose Link to comment
Naunet Posted September 25, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2013 I'm sorry, but I really don't understand what you mean by keyboard chart? Link to comment
Roda Posted September 25, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2013 When in doubt Keybinds has all your answers to the age old question, "Now what was that hot key??!" Also, remember to turn using right click and moving your mouse, and cast skills by using your hotkeys. Link to comment
Mongoose Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted September 25, 2013 I'm sorry, but I really don't understand what you mean by keyboard chart? Hi Naunet, I think it would be useful to have a picture of a keyboard with the keys labeled with the Realm Reborn commands, in order to look at the chart and not the keyboard, I'll try it both ways, with a drawing and with just the letters Whatever = A and so on. Thanks much Hi Roda, Yikes, I embarrass myself, I should have known. I can use that to make a quick reference chart. Yeah, I should have known, there's a lot I don't know yet. I have no idea what "bard" means, what "tank" means, but it's fun finding out. Thanks for taking time to reply Link to comment

I forgot that people could actually be green to the MMO genre. Well, this is a bard: http://www.ffxivinfo.com/job/bard.php And tanks are typically beefy classes whose role is defined by their ability to grab and maintain agro. Tank classes are Gladiators, Marauders, and their respective jobs (Paladin and Warrior) http://www.ffxivinfo.com/class/gladiator.php http://www.ffxivinfo.com/class/marauder.php http://www.ffxivinfo.com/job/paladin.php http://www.ffxivinfo.com/job/warrior.php Pets can also be referred to as tanks if they have high defence and agro-holding abilities. (Topaz Carbuncle, Titan Egi, and Chocobo in Defender stance) Oh, and hey, I found a nifty guide on the official website (AND IT HAS A KEYBOARD LAYOUT GRAPHIC!) http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/win/ But really, please, please, please, do not be afraid to ask for help. You'll be a lot less embarrassed if you ask about boss mechanics before the fight than you would be if you learned them by being the that guy who triggers the 1shot mechanic causing a wipe. Aeslyn Grey Posted September 26, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2013 Hi there, seeing as you said you are new to MMO's and that you don't know what a Tank is I would like to link a great and easy to understand explanation of what the 'Trinity' system is for you. However, when I looked for one everything was so detailed it would probably overload you. Maybe someone else will be able to link one soon. Basically the 'Tank' will lead the group, will typically be able to take a lot of damage, either through damage mitigation skills or high hp or both. The Tank will also have special skills to gain 'aggro' or enmity, hate, different games have different names for it, but it just means how much the enemy or enemies are focused on him/her rather than the other players in the group. So the Tank is the head of the 'Trinity' party and leads the group. This is a position that holds a lot of responsibility and can be quite difficult as the game gets harder. Then there is the healer, who will normally focus most of his/her time on keeping the tank alive, and then the other party members as needed. In FFXIV the party for dungeons at low levels is made up of 1 tank, 1 healer and 2 dps (dps means damage per second and refers to damage dealers who are not primarily healers or tanks but who are capable of dealing large amounts of damage quickly) When I was new to MMO games I did not know about the different the roles in the party, and I made lots of mistakes and it took a while for me to understand there was a structure that I could learn. If you read up on how the 'Trinity' party system works in MMO's that should help you a lot. Good luck! Link to comment
