FreelanceWizard Posted September 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2010 I. Basic Info Characters: L'yhta Mahre, Aurelie Tavanois, Cieranaux Aramont Primary character: L'yhta Mahre Linkshells: Mysterium, the Ivory Tower; Balmung's Finest; The Tavern Primary RP linkshell: Mysterium, the Ivory Tower II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. I'm IC all the time unless otherwise marked or in a standard OOC channel, such as /shout. That doesn't mean that I don't like interacting OOC, just that whatever my character is doing, unless I note otherwise, is IC. Even when my character isn't chatting, I'm keeping track of their inner monologue (and sometimes this shows up in journals, especially in my weirder or more shy characters). Views on RP combat and injuries: Eorzea is a violent place, and IC Actions Equal IC Consequences. Thus, combat in RP is probably inevitable. I like negotiating the combat OOC in advance to determine how it'll be resolved and what the consequences will be. In terms of actual execution, I generally prefer deciding that in advance based on story considerations (and usually I prefer to take the fall and lose ), but I'm amenable to any system, including duels. Duels are, however, my least favorite choice due to all the OOC factors (lag, inequities in PvP builds or lack of PvP experience, etc.). If a system is desired, I like rolls modified by level. As injuries go, I'm generally good with anything up to character death, depending on the needs of the story. Views on IC romance: I've done a fair number of these over the years, and I'm good with going wherever the story goes and within whatever bounds all players want. For me, the story is the important thing. What I don't really like is scripting a romance out in advance; I'd rather anything like that evolve organically. At any rate, all players involved need to understand both ICA=ICC and the IC/OOC line. Remember, it's our characters getting involved, not us. In terms of, ahem, more "private" encounters, those definitely need to arise from IC actions and how it plays out is largely a function of everyone's comfort level. Personally, I prefer fading the bedroom action to black (albeit perhaps with discussing any particular predilections or antics that elucidate the characters) and picking back up with the pillow talk -- which has been some of the more interesting RP I've done. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I usually prefer to have all of the ties my character has grow organically from IC interaction. However, I'm not opposed to planning some ties out in advance. That said, I'm not a big fan of "pair characters" and other pre-scripted interactions. Views on lore: Outside of reasonable deviations in grey areas, good RPers should respect lore. It's the only "GM" we have and the only way we can effectively RP together. The more people break away from lore, the more RP becomes difficult (outside of calling people nuts IC), and the harder it is for the community to gel. Lore is good. Lore works. Respect the lore. That said, I'm not a loremaster by any sense of the word, and so I'm willing to give a pass to reasonable deviations from the norm. The key word here is "reasonable" -- that means nothing that would force others to RP the way you do or call your character insane, nothing that's godmoding or powerposing, and nothing that's so weird it doesn't fit in the setting. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): For me, /say and /yell are always IC. /tell is usually IC, but I'm very careful to denote how it works (such as "*whispered*" combined with an emote of whispering to someone). /party is IC unless the group is generally OOC. /shout is OOC, as I treat it like a "General" channel in other MMOs, but usually I keep it turned off or filtered to another tab. I generally prefer my group chats (/ls) to be IC, but I also like chatting OOC. III. Other Info Country: US Timezone: Central (GMT-6/-5) Contact info: PM here works best. If we need to chat in more detail and privately, I can pass on e-mail contact info. While I might sometimes come off as a hardcore judgmental jerk in discussions of the art of RP, I'm really pretty laid back in my actual RP in game and in forums (hey, I was a regular at Pocket D in City of Heroes ). I just hold myself to high ideals and try to spread them, since I think they make the RP experience better for everyone. I'm really nice, I promise! Link to comment
