Dakki Posted January 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2014 Further from this thread: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=6245 It has become quite clear that, as well as FFXIV, this forum also seems to have quite the interest in another MMO, one I had recently not heard of. The Secret World. As such, I thought it to be a novel idea to create a thread to summarise this interest! So, put plain and simply, if you have interest in playing The Secret World (http://www.thesecretworld.com/buy/) and would perhaps not like to go in alone, feel free to post it here! And if anyone is already playing, feel free to post which server you're on and you "alliance" (secret society). Still, just an idea. Link to comment
S'maia Rahz Posted January 29, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 29, 2014 I've got Melusine, a Dragon (appropriate, no?) on Arcadia. I don't play very much though, mainly because I don't know anyone there >_> I'm a lifer, more's the pity. Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted January 29, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 29, 2014 I'll extend my own postings from that thread linked. :3 Character: Jesslyn "Kessie" Fairchylde Server: Arcadia Society: Illuminati I am also a Lifer, and I am also not acquainted with anyone else who plays TSW, so this thread is immediately relevant to my interest. I miss my shottie hottie. :c Link to comment
Dogberry Posted January 29, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2014 Looks interesting. I think I'll check it out. I'm leaning toward the Illuminati. Link to comment
Lost River Posted January 29, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 29, 2014 Hehe! http://www.amazon.com/Secret-World-Online-Game-Code/dp/B007VTVKG6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391027857&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Secret+World Also. I'm a Lifer too. Aijin - Illuminati Ji-Su - Dragon Orlaith - Templar All on Arcadia server! Link to comment
S'maia Rahz Posted January 29, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 29, 2014 Oh! I have other characters too but I don't remember their names. I think one was Skysong? But Melusine is the one I remember for sure. OH! And Sibyl, who is my Templar I think? Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted January 29, 2014 Share #7 Posted January 29, 2014 It should be noted that my Lumi is currently at QL4 or QL3 (I think), but if it'll be better/more fun for all involved, I'm willing to re-roll an alt. I'll just have to keep my mouth shut during the Investigation missions in Kingsmouth. X3 Link to comment
Dakki Posted January 29, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted January 29, 2014 Yay, this thread has interest! Yaaaaaay! :moogle: So far with my character concept... Name: ??? LaCerta (His first name is on a strictly need to know basis) Age: ??? (Thought to be in his late twenties to early thirties) Society: Illuminati Stuff so far: *Puts on Assassin's Creed profile voice* "LaCerta is somewhat of an anomaly to the other societies and the global data banks as a whole. Possessed of a dry humour, amazing intellect and a killer instinct, it is believed (though not confirmed) that he was behind the assassination of the Templar US senator *Insert random surname here, preferably one of an assassinated US senator*. Much like his other society members, LaCerta is known to enjoy and throw elegant soirées in any of his five lavish abodes dotted across America. Though, checking through recent surveillance we have on his homes, the man himself always seems to slip out relatively early on in the night. Not one for the public eye, 'ey? Speaking of surveillance, here's a juicy little number on his combat styling. Trained from the moment the Illuminati picked him up in advanced medicinal techniques, LaCerta usually travels escorted. Whilst the battle rages, he seems to prefer lingering back, numbing his allies pain receptors with all manner of medicinal cocktails. The few times he does join the fray, it seems only to administer a lethal injection he so lovingly named 'Medusa's Tears' or 'Toxin #2177'. Oh! Ew... The less we go in to the effect those have on their victims, the better... Moving on! Truly a dangerous, brilliant man. Keep an eye out for this one. Taking him out would remove a great asset of the Illuminati." So yes, LaCerta is more pre-occupied with the power struggle between the three secret societies, rather than the whole rising darkness thing... Not to say he won't play a role in subduing the evil threat, but he won't be seen on the frontlines if he can help it. (Concealing himself in the shadows of the battlefield and healing his allies.) Whittledown Posted January 29, 2014 Share #9 Posted January 29, 2014 Thread is tempting me to load up TSW again. I have a QL7 Pistols/Elementalism monster Templar named Claiomh-Solais. To put it in the words of Harvey Keitel she was a "mean mmmmmmm servant of God". Link to comment
Raeras Posted January 29, 2014 Share #10 Posted January 29, 2014 I...don't even remember what my character is , I know she's still quite the low level though. However I wouldn't mind playing it again if others were playing as well ^^ Link to comment
Nako Vesh Posted January 29, 2014 Share #11 Posted January 29, 2014 I play "Lilibird," but I don't get on much. I'm so attached to that character though, I have an IC tumblr for her, here. I have an OOC one here for creepy images that remind me of the game's world, here. But, man, I have such polarized feelings about that game. Link to comment
Lost River Posted January 30, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 30, 2014 I -LOVE- the occult and such, it's why I gave Lost River a dark background (within the suitable realm as FFXIV isn't as happy as most think; Thanks Square for the implied rape, enslavement, and such.) Link to comment
Dogberry Posted January 30, 2014 Share #13 Posted January 30, 2014 I'm big into the occult, too. Like reading Aleister Crowley and John Dee for fun kinda into it. I don't believe in any of it at all, but to me it reads like an RPG setting book without any crunch, and I like that a lot. I read stuff like the Corpus Hermeticum, and whatever biblical apocrypha I can find, too. In fact, my big gripe with much of modern supernatural fiction is that it ignores so much of this material that is out there and so cool, but instead makes up its own stuff that just ends up sounding contrived compared to the "real" thing. Like, if you're going to make a thing about angels and demons, there's a wealth of existing information about them in legitimate resources used by respected theologians that might actually add some gravitas to your story because let's face it even if you don't believe in it the Abrahamic religions have an interesting mythology to them. But no, go ahead and name your angels after norse gods and Herman Mellville protagonists, and make up choirs of angels based on greek mythology. Wow, that kind of became a rant, didn't it? I'm also a big Lovecraft fan and play Delta Green, Call of Cthulhu, and Cthulhutech quite a bit. Link to comment
Dakki Posted January 30, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted January 30, 2014 Just a little update, I have bought the game! I shall be playing on Arcadia as a member of the Illuminati, as has been seen in previous posts. Just waiting on the download now. I am rather excited! Link to comment
Nikolai Posted January 31, 2014 Share #15 Posted January 31, 2014 Oh neat. My character also just happens to be on Arcadia: Nikolai "Curios" Petrikov. I don't play too often, but feel free to send a tell if you see me online. Link to comment
SeijiTataki Posted January 31, 2014 Share #16 Posted January 31, 2014 I used to play this a lot, actually - it was the game I was mostly playing before switching to FFXIV. I ended up switching to FFXIV because it was something new/more interesting, and general meh-ness about some other things in TSW including the end game. That said, I did buy into a lifetime and I know some roleplayers there and it's something I have been meaning to get back to on playing at some point. For what it's worth, what server you play on is ultimately irrelevant if you are just looking to roleplay, since the game is broken up into servers and instance shards to distribute the population for server load relevance, only. You can actually 'meet up' on anyone who is your friend (or in your party) across both servers and instances. The only relevance for servers is where you default, as well as for PVP populations. My main is 'Tatsudoshi', a Dragon member. ;P We don't get a very good representation and tend to have the fewest numbers on most servers. I guess people don't like control through chaos. Either that, or they're too drawn in to Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll of the Illuminati, or the idea that the name Templar puts in most people's minds. Link to comment
Steel Wolf Posted January 31, 2014 Share #17 Posted January 31, 2014 The Dragon's idea of figuring the theory of Chaos Theory is a fascinating field of thought...it just doesn't really gel with my character's concept. ^.^;; Oh, point I should make...I was WAY off on my QL level. I thought I was QL3 or QL4. Turns out I'm QL6. hehehehe.... ;; Regardless, I'm at Blue Mountain, parked currently at the Franklin Mansion. Probably going to have to deal with more of the dffshafj; ak'ab. Link to comment

Probably going to have to deal with more of the dffshafj; ak'ab. Quite a while ago they made a change to the Ak'ab that causes them to chain agro from ridiculous far away, and I have no idea why they did it and the fact that they didn't change it leads me to believe this is what they intended, and it's pretty... pretty awful. I frequently volunteer to help people eradicate the Ak'ab menace, so if you are still having problems with dealing with them and their across-the-map-nearly agro chaining, feel free to give me a poke and I can log in and shoot some bug things up. Dakki Posted January 31, 2014 Author Share #19 Posted January 31, 2014 Servers are irrelevant, you say? Also, my character info in case anyone wants to track me down: Character Name: Vincent "DirtyNeedles" LaCerta (the nickname is purely OOC. But it relates to his background quite well, I'd say. I might have his codename as Needles.<3) Server: Arcadia Society: Illuminati Preferred Weapon: Claws Link to comment
SeijiTataki Posted February 1, 2014 Share #20 Posted February 1, 2014 You simply right click on someone in your party or on your friends list and hit 'Meet Up', and the person on the other side will get a notification that you are trying to meet up with them. Assuming that the instance that they are on is not full, when they accept the game will teleport you to to the same map as they are on, regardless of instanceID or server, so long as you have access to an anima well on that map. (This may have been changed at some point, can't say for certain since I have access to all the wells on all the maps on my characters) What this means is that if you rolled on the 'wrong' server, you can still attend events that are being hosted by people on other servers, provided that the number of people attending doesn't max-out the map limit. Dakki Posted February 1, 2014 Author Share #21 Posted February 1, 2014 That is a very cool game mechanic to have added. :geek: I'm liking this game more and more. Having played last night and now being on Solomon Island (gradually getting to grips with it. Maxed out Illuminati lore pieces and levelling on sidequests before I do too many story quests), it's a really enjoyable occult "APOCALYPSE NOW!" type game. Link to comment
Dakki Posted February 4, 2014 Author Share #22 Posted February 4, 2014 Just an update: I am positively loving this game! If anyone has an interest in it, I would recommend it. Especially if you have an interest in darker MMOs (with the exception of quite frequent comical relief and references, or at least that's what I find playing Illuminati). The PvP system is annoying me as it's rather like the other games. Gear up and jump around in circles around your target. But still learning that aspect! The rest is absolutely great. (Playing an Assault Rifle/Claws healer. It's not a widely used combination until later levels, but I am making it work with custom skill builds. ) Link to comment
Lost River Posted February 4, 2014 Share #23 Posted February 4, 2014 I need to take a break from TSW and SWTOR to play more FFXIV, buuut. What server shard on TSW? Arcadia? Link to comment
Dakki Posted February 4, 2014 Author Share #24 Posted February 4, 2014 Arcadia, yes. Add "DirtyNeedles". My only regret is that in chat you don't come under your 'RP name' DirtyNeedles is my PvP name. (PvP healer, oh yeaaaah... Though, I might make him AR/Claws DPS for PvP. They're pretty devastating.)
