Lio Shirazumi Posted February 24, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2014 ... Not entirely sure what the significance its there. Hi all! I am Bex, a hardcore RP'er who recently came from WoW. Honestly i'm still learning the game mechanics and at the time I write this only made it to level 20 on a different character. That said I write in paragraph style and very much would enjoy any invitations where I can RP freely without having to worry too much about game progression. That's not to say I wont be progressing, but i'd rather do it IC. _____ This character here is Lio Shirazumi, if you know the character hes from Kara No Kyoukai and i'll be using him as if his death in Japan sent his spirit here. Lio is by all rights evil, he eats people and pretends to be the woman hes obsessed with in order to frame her for all his criminal acts. For more information on him, simply look up the name. Since they don't really have a "rogue" class in 14, my class is not accurate to my characters fighting style in the least. _____ And, that's all. Hope to RP with you all soon. Link to comment
Dogberry Posted February 24, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2014 Hi, Lio, and welcome to the RPC and the Final Fantasy XIV community. I hope that you're able to find welcoming, like-minded people with which to RP. I feel like I should warn you though, that most of us who RP in Final Fantasy XIV like to RP with people playing characters from Eorzea, and not pre-existing characters from manga or anime. Your character concept may be met with some derision, and if you're comfortable with that, and want to take that concept and run with it I don't think anyone here is capable of stopping you, but they sure are capable of blacklisting you. I fear that by playing this character you may be limiting the amount of people willing to RP with you. Again, if your heart's set on it, by all means, go ahead. Maybe there are people out there who won't mind. But I know for a fact that many will. Also, if I'm not already "that guy", then this will probably solidify my place in "that guy"-dom. It's spelled cannibal. Link to comment
LandStander Posted February 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 24, 2014 While I think the cannibal thing is interesting and I wonder where it will go. Especially if this character had friends and they found out that they were dining on people. I would like to warn you about using characters from manga or anime in this universe. If you want to base a character off of an anime; I think that is perfectly fine, but when you start doing the whole "this character came from another place" thing...then you are sort of asking for trouble. As a suggestion, I would come up with a more lore friendly back story if I were you ^^; Link to comment
Lio Shirazumi Posted February 24, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted February 24, 2014 You can't be "that guy" for constructive criticism. You're more like the guy saying "duck" when a boulder is thrown toward the victim. "That guy" is the one at the theater telling the person next to them whats about to happen, or has a neon light flashing from their phone while they text in the middle of said movie. I believe RP is all about fun though and finding people that can accept your style. If my style doesn't suit someone, then they probably wouldn't enjoy themselves around me and should avoid interactions with me so neither of us end up down that awkward road. Also I am helpless without spell check, I couldn't use it on the title portion. Though I think FF broke that rule already when they dimension hopped Lightning for the latest festival event. That all said, the whole "based on" concept may be the safer route. Though being new to FF14, constructing one will take a lot more understanding of the world then I currently have. Thank you both non the less. Link to comment
Kage Posted February 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 24, 2014 There are a few judging people out there but I would say that if you're set on trying to RP as Lio then I won't begrudge you. I'd say just find like-minded RPers (however few or many there may be) and ignore those that would just as likely ignore your RP. If they don't like it, then they should not RP with you and just ignore you. Link to comment
Dogberry Posted February 24, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 24, 2014 Yeah, SE's done us no favors with that. There are still people (and I'm among them) that don't count the Lightning event as canon. It's not that it's automatically a bad character angle, it's that it's so often done in the worst possible way. There are people out there that just won't give you the chance. Like you, I believe that you should RP about what's fun for the people involved, and the haters can just not get involved and do their own thing, and certainly in a perfect world that would be the case. Like I said, nothing's going to stop you from playing the character you want to play exactly how you want to play them. Given the stigma that a dimension-hopping character has, though, my concern is that you might not find the community as welcoming as you might hope. That said, we have all manner of character based on others. My own character has a menagerie of characters in other media that inform him and have inspired me to play him. Few here would consider that controversial. I really do wish you the best and hope you have a blast RPing in FFXIV! If you see me around, feel free to say hi! Link to comment
Dakki Posted February 24, 2014 Share #7 Posted February 24, 2014 *Rolls up in his RoeMobile* Oh, look. You get three grumpy Roegadyn! Hehe. I will start off by saying I -love- the cannibal concept. It's something that is very rarely explored outside World of Warcraft (Troll RP, mostly. The race, not the douche variety) and I would love to see how you portray it in the Final Fantasy universe. Now, not to regurgitate what the other two said, but I have to agree that it's safer to play a character that is "like so-and-so", rather than being flat out from another universe. I mean, your character could be like him in every single way possible (mannerisms, appearance, bits of human between the teeth...) but for it to be considered more widely accepted, I would suggest you do not make the character a direct reincarnation of said anime character. By all means, have your character go around shouting "I AM LIO SHIRAZUMI!" but the people of Eorzea would likely take your character as an extreme eccentric and reply "Um... Hi. I am "Insert name here*..." or treat him as though he has a few bolts loose in the ol' noggin. Also, there is always the risk with taking a character directly from another game where people will refuse to hear you out, will get butthurt and will refuse to roleplay with you. Likely whilst badmouthing you to everyone they know. Rest assured, these people are few and far between on FFXIV, but some do exist! Though I think FF broke that rule already when they dimension hopped Lightning for the latest festival event. Now, I found the above to be a very interesting point. Whilst, typically, yes it is true they broke that ruuuuuule... Yes and no. Sure, Lightning dimension hopping was a bit of a "What the-?" moment, but let's look at a few facts: - Lightning comes from a dimension far in to the future, far more advanced than Eorzea. Kinda a null point, but you'll see where I'm coming from soon. - The Fal'Cie are almighty beings, each with different unique skills as well as the conjoined ability to create l'Cie. Who is to say that at least one Fal'Cie does not have access to dimensional shift magic (effectively advanced Time Magic, a form of magic seen in the Final Fantasy universe). - Lightning isn't exactly liked among the Fal'Cie. Put two and two together, they wanted to "test her" AKA kill her in a twisted, evil Fal'Cie way. - This has happened before in FFXIII. Think the re-make. - Lastly, Lightning is from the Final Fantasy universe. Now, the guy you want to bring to Eorzea has no connection to the Final Fantasy universe. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that a mirror dimension of his is one with Hydaelyn inside. So, by my thinking, it is near impossible or at the very least infeasible to see that his spirit would jump to Eorzea. The again you could and likely would be able to find a like-minded community to roleplay him in. If that's the case, best of luck to you and that is awesome! However, for the ability to integrate your character in to the general FFXIV RP circuit, I would suggest the "is like so-and-so" route. Kudos on the concept! :moogle: Link to comment
