Nikolai Posted September 21, 2010 Author Share #26 Posted September 21, 2010 It is really, REALLY fun. Like, whoa. I might end up shelfing FFXIV for it! Haha, no, probably not, but it makes for a good LAN game. I have a lot of friends who got it, and I'm really looking forward to this weekend 'cos it looks like it'll be my first opportunity to play a full game with people. Link to comment
Satisiun Posted September 21, 2010 Share #27 Posted September 21, 2010 Got to admit, I sort of miss religion being involved. I mean, don't get me wrong. Civilization IV took it way too far, and if you focused on just gobbling religions up, you were all but assured a cultural victory. Not to mention it was overpowered in other ways as well, ranging from benefits given to units, to all the money you raked in from religious wonders, and so on. But it had its place, and if it had been watered down and diluted a little but, it could have been nice to keep. C'est la vie, though. The demo's been very fun so far, and I have very few, if any complaints about it. Link to comment
Asytra Posted September 21, 2010 Share #28 Posted September 21, 2010 I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one. For those of you thinking of buying... the boxed copy is the same price as the Steam copy and doesn't offer anything you don't get with the Steam version. You can also pay a little more to get the deluxe version on Steam which has another civ but I think I'll pass on that. One really cool thing about buying it on Steam is that they will be donating some of the proceeds to a charity and you can choose which charity you want yours to go to. :moogle: EDIT: Erf... just bought but had no option to choose a charity... MydLyfeCrysis Posted September 21, 2010 Share #29 Posted September 21, 2010 I got my Steam copy all installed (and I was able to choose a charity after installation). But much to my chagrin, there is no Viking civilization. No Ragnar in this one. Oh, well, there is still Bismarck! I suppose in lieu of Ragnar, another Germanic leader will do. Link to comment
Emaraya Posted September 21, 2010 Share #30 Posted September 21, 2010 Guess we all know where Ragnar has been lately... He's already preparing an attack from the inside of the comming expansion. Link to comment

Personally, I miss Joao II of Portugal... he was the most foppish of the dandies. :< However, it looks like Wu Zetian of China shall soon win my heart... I always did love the Great General bonuses. Asytra Posted September 22, 2010 Share #32 Posted September 22, 2010 Slowly building up my empire, for Mother Russia! Unfortunately no vodka as a luxury item. Link to comment
Emaraya Posted September 22, 2010 Share #33 Posted September 22, 2010 vodka as a luxury item. Well... vodka as such is definetly not a luxury item. The only part of it that can be called luxury is the missing of methanol. So keep your eyesight and there is your luxury. Link to comment
Tadir Posted September 22, 2010 Share #34 Posted September 22, 2010 How is vodka a luxury? Everyone knows it is a vital necessity. Link to comment
Satisiun Posted September 22, 2010 Share #35 Posted September 22, 2010 Well... vodka as such is definitely not a luxury item. The only part of it that can be called luxury is the missing of methanol. Asytra Posted September 22, 2010 Share #36 Posted September 22, 2010 How is vodka a luxury? Everyone knows it is a vital necessity. Good man! My trebuchets are getting two upgrades right off the bat from my facility in Moscow. Washington will be sorry he sniped the spot that had iron, gold, and an oasis from me... Link to comment

Asytra Posted September 22, 2010 Share #38 Posted September 22, 2010 My game kept crashing on a certain turn where Napolean and Washington both declared war on me... happened the second time too. Not sure what to do now. Link to comment

Tadir Posted September 22, 2010 Share #40 Posted September 22, 2010 Yup, this kept me up til around 4 this morning. I meant to get to bed by 1... and so it begins. All I can say is thank god for FFXIV. Link to comment
Asytra Posted September 22, 2010 Share #41 Posted September 22, 2010 Not sure what to do now. Declare war on your own? Yeah I am thinking I will war declare America before that turn hits. Yup, this kept me up til around 4 this morning. I meant to get to bed by 1... and so it begins. All I can say is thank god for FFXIV. Hehe... Yes I feel the same way. It's amazing how fast time flies playing it. Just....one....more....turn! Link to comment
Dralid Posted September 23, 2010 Share #42 Posted September 23, 2010 Just....one....more....turn! As much as I love the Civ games, this is why I'll be staying away from the game for a while. "Well, once I get this tech, i'll save and quit" /Get the tech "Awww.. but I want to see the unit it unlocked" /Built the unit "Oh dang! George Washington just declared war! Curse him" /Mobilize the army. "Must.... defend... city...from.. upcoming ...doom" /Play till the city is safe /look out the window "Huh!? The sun is rising! What happened to the night?" Yeah, and it all started with.. one more turn! Now add FFXIV in the mix. Instant-win for a PH.D in Ermit life-style Link to comment
Tadir Posted September 23, 2010 Share #43 Posted September 23, 2010 That was remarkably accurate. Link to comment

Freyar Posted September 26, 2010 Share #45 Posted September 26, 2010 Just bought my own copy. Played a four-hour long multiplayer game against my boss and some of my customers. Four hours long because we had to wait for people to remember that they had to hit end-turn. Ugh. Link to comment
Emaraya Posted September 26, 2010 Share #46 Posted September 26, 2010 Well I got it since two-three days and got some achievements already. But some are just hilarious, "Cat Fight - Win a game as a female leader against all other possible female leaders by war." Link to comment
Zason Posted September 28, 2010 Share #47 Posted September 28, 2010 I added you Tadir. Evil_Zason Display is Z. Im not one to much, but I do enjoy a newb game of Civ4 form time to time. Link to comment
