SE made the core take theirs down' date=' so keeping this unnoticed might be a good call.[/quote']

If their patcher didn't shunt bandwidth responsibility in such a way that would bar some of their customers from playing, AND didn't result in those at universities from being unable to get the patches themselves, I'd care.

If they tell me to take it down, I will. Until then, I'll keep providing the service as needed. The best thing I can recommend to SE is have an alternative method to download patches. One method does not inherently work with everyone.

I don't mean to sound rude or too aggressive on the matter, Square-Enix as a company has just been bothering me as of late.

Character Creation FAQ

Another âAsk the Devsâ has been posted on SEâs site, this time they answer 4 questions about character creation. Hereâs the basics:

You can only do the quests (story line) for the city you started in.

Weapons for all classes can be bought in all 3 starting cities (with NPC locations).

Your characterâs namdeday currently has no effect in game.

Your choice of guardian currently has no effect in game.

New Patch (2010.10.07.0001)

A new patch was deployed last night. Nothing exciting, mainly just a set of bug fixes. Here are the full patch notes posted be SE:

[*]Made an adjustment to how experience points are distributed amongst party members. Instead of dividing a total number of experience points by the number of players who participated in the battle, it now distributes the total amount of experience points equally amongst all players in the party.

[*]The chat log will no longer close while entering text during the following processes:

[*]When viewing a bazaar

[*]When setting up a bazaar

[*]During gathering

[*]During synthesis[/list:u]

[*]An issue wherein a player would be unable to progress with the quest âFutures Perfect,â if they join a party during the cutscene has been addressed.

[*]An issue wherein a player would be unable to start a levequest if they initiate a teleport at the same time has been addressed.

[*]Implemented a countermeasure for an issue which prevented players from gaining skill points during battle.

[*]An issue wherein the FINAL FANTASY XIV client would shut down when a player adds or removes a new party member has been addressed.

[*]An issue wherein players would take damage when executing a macro command for an area of effect action that is centered on themselves has been addressed.

[*]An issue wherein messages in tell, party, or linkshell chat would not go through properly has been addressed.

[*]Implemented a countermeasure for an issue where an item would not display properly under a certain condition.

[*]A rare issue wherein an item data would get corrupted during a server outage has been addressed.

[*]We have confirmed that if a player attempts to put this corrupted item into their bazaar, it would cause the server to go down. We are currently in the process of addressing this issue, but until then, we have placed a temporarily restriction on these corrupted items which were being sold by certain players. We will be providing an update on this situation once we have a better idea on when the the actual fix will take place. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.[/list:u][/list:u]

An issue wherein the login queue would not work as intended during server congestion has been addressed.

Implemented a countermeasure to prevent server outages under a certain condition.

Other miscellaneous issues have been addressed.

The previously announced improvements to the market system are currently in the final preparation stages and will be ready by the version update next week. Please keep an eye out for future announcements regarding this matter.

Patch Notes (2010.10.14.0000)

[*] Market wards have been modified as follows:

[*] Wards are now assigned specific item categories.

[*] Items corresponding to a wardâs item category will receive lower tax rates than items that do not correspond to the category.

[*] For an example of the new ward names and item categories, please visit the following page: (example here)[/list:u]

[*] Targeting and selecting a retainer will automatically open their Bazaar.

[*] The party bonus system (which awards bonus skill points for battles fought in a party) has been changed so that the bonus is awarded based on the number of fellow party members in the same area who are within the appropriate skill rank range, not simply the total number of party members.

[*] The party bonus system awards more points when there are more party members within the appropriate skill rank range.

[*] In this case, âappropriate skill rank rangeâ means a skill rank no more than five ranks lower or higher than your own.[/list:u]

[*] The maximum numbers of crystals and shards each character and retainer is capable of carrying have been changed to 9,999.

[*] With the maximun numbers of crystals and shards that can be transferred at one time through trade and bazaar will remain as 999.

[*] This is a temporary measure and crystals or shards obtained in excess of this amount will automatically be discarded. The system is undergoing a fundamental redesign and adjustments will continue to be made.

[*] Caution on numbers that can be traded at one time through trade and bazaar has been added at around 2:50 PDT on Oct. 15, 2010.

NPC display priority has been modified. This will ensure that important NPCs, such as Baderon, are displayed first.[/list:u]

[*] An issue where the retainer would not appear when summoned with the Summoning Bell has been fixed.

[*] An issue where the retainer would be visible to other players when summoned with the bell has been fixed.

[*] An issue where text commands could be used to equip items that the player should not have been able to equip has been fixed.[/list:u]

The UI updates not only makes the critical step towards moving Final Fantasy XIV away from feeling like an emulated console title, but also helps critically reduce the amount of time spent in menus. What used to take literally four to seven minutes in gear swaps and unequipped, is now literally 15 seconds. UI lag is most definitely down, though some wait is still noticeable in high traffic areas. This is probably because there is a significant reduction in server-authenticated actions.

Custom chat tabs are now available, though only two will be able to be "typed in", which are the two set on the first bar (IE: "General", and my re-designed "Whisper" tab). So, the second set will have to be used entirely for logging things. This makes stuff much better in the long run though, making it easier to sort out chats with vital combat information.

The SP and XP bars at the bottom make for a much-needed method to track progression without having to always go to the menu. This is most useful during Synthesis and Gathering (such as fishing).

As far as the changes to magic, this has made my (what feels like) neglected Thaumaturge discipline feel like something I can use. Spells are potent, they actually hit and while still have a chance to resist aren't prone to it. Combat feels much more fair in that respect than it used to be. Thaumaturge characters were at best used for spam-healing and Punishing Barb "Lalabombs".

It seems they've done a bit of optimization too. Performance on my machine using the old "max" quality for rendering has gone up while giving those with even stronger CPU and GPUs than mine a chance to really kick in environment lighting up another notch. It sure does look pretty.

Only complaint is that with the XP/SP bar at the bottom, I'd REALLY like to see a "borderless windowed" mode, or at least the ability to alt-tab without crashing.

An important note.

If your FFXIV config utility is crashing, you will need to enable windows fonts, select any one (Arial may be the first on the list). Hit okay to save it, go back and disable the windows font again.

This problem is caused by the new Windows Font option not having a font selected even if it is disabled.

Thought I should let you know that I tried installing "D2010.11.25.0002.patch" the usual way but the game isn't recognizing that I have the patch so is forcing me to go through the normal update process.

Thankfully, it seems to be going faster than any update I have ever seen. Whatever SE did to fix their servers, it worked.

Thanks again for hosting these patches anyway Freyar. They have saved me a lot of time in the past with updates.

I probably didn't preserve the file structure properly. The actual patch is in there, I have a suspicion it's just one folder up.

Patch D2010.11.30.0000 has been added. Changelog on OP.

The file structure for Patch D2010.11.25.0002 has been fixed. It should be able to be extracted like normal.

Those that have already had it downloaded should find the patch itself in ..\Final Fantasy XIV\downloads\ffxiv\48eca647\

Copy D2010.11.25.0002.patch to the proper folder and it should be good to go.
