Trying out new things! Hurray!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I finally have a computer that can -actually- run the game, at least so far, so I'm givin' the game at least its 30-day trial and see what all of the fuss is about. Not that I've heard any good fuss about it...

A roleplay guild would make the noobie-times go by that much faster, even if its mostly just for some chit-chat back and forth while I dig into the story, politics, and such of the new world, but I"m not sure who would want to take on a newbie right from the start.

My character's name is Paka Paka, a Plainsfolk Lalafel who's just arrived straight from his island homelands. He gave himself this strange name after running away from his home and needing a cover: "Paka Paka" comes from the sound his sandals makes when he runs around, 'Pa-ka Pa-ka pa-ka.' (And now I wish I spelled it "Pokka Pokka", but meh) The reason why he ran, and where he is running from, is something he keeps to himself, but he's more than happy to talk about things after that point in his life.

He's ended up in Limsa Lominsa much in the way the opening movie plays out. In a desire to see even more of the world, and put more distance between himself and his home, he worked his way onto a boat to the mainland by convincing the head chef he could cook. As a ranger who makes a living in the wilds, cooking is a required skill! And as Paka himself said, "he knows good food." The good food he knows was made by his adoptive mother, however, and not food he himself can make. But the journey had already started by the time the chef (and the patrons) came to realize this, and throwing him overboard seemed too cruel a punishment.

And so, here he is, just off the proverbial turnip truck, knowing little-to-nothing about the politics and locales of this 'new world', but far too eager to see as much of it as he can before the sightseeing gets around to killing him! He is a light-hearted, energetic, eager, if naive companion, willing to do what he can to get a job done. He prefers to avoid a fight if he can, and would rather negotiate his away around a conflict. When it does come to arms, however, he prefers a bow...because it keeps him further away from the trouble, too. Paka always does his best to repay the favors given him, however small or insignificant they may seem to others, and he is always willing to dispense whatever advice he may have -- sometimes even when it isn't asked for. In his downtime, he prefers working on making his own arrows and bows (I'll be working on carpentry, I figure, since it will help an archer out more), and, after meeting a very pretty lady while pretending he was a chef, he has a sudden keen interest in the culinary arts, though he's mostly a miserable failure.

In general though, I'll probably spend the first week or so learning where everything is, how things work, and doing noobei quests, like "My Very First Adventure" which I just started. =P I'll be willing to chit-chat with the other roleplayers, but I'll try to stay out of the way until I learn how the game world works, much less the dramas and storylines of the roleplay group. Would anybody want to take a new guy on? ^^
