1. While I come here not as a Mentor character by any stretch, I'd like to ask if I can bring C'io over to share this journey with Z'tehra -- to whatever mentor she decides on (so this is a plea to the mentors in here as well) and beyond! C'io is character of strong and high ideals always struggling to reconcile her beliefs with the realities of Eorzea. She can speak in Library, which I'm sure will help, and while on the magician spectrum now, grew up as a hunter and sword-fighter, skills she is at present seeking to return to and polish. Having another character along on that journey would make it much more special for me, definitely. Additionally, as a researcher, C'io's studies are into public attitudes and policies on "Taboo Magics" and whether such beliefs are deserved or mistaken -- she is someone who may eventually be turned to should Z'tehra's heirloom weapon turn problematic. C'io also has her own causes, which she believes in fervently, so any interaction between the two could eventually lead to your second ask -- a cause to serve. Feel free to PM me or poke at me here! I look forward to hearing from you and to seeing your story and concept develop!
2. Ah haha, oh no -- I'm too late! I think it is fantastic that you've gone out and offered to do this for others; I know many people whose stories would be greatly augmented by the appearance of a family member like this, myself included. I wish for the best in your collaborative family tale, Mana! If you ever have space in your journeys for our characters to meet, particularly because C'io was once that sprightly young desert bumpkin of a miqo'te, I'd love to work together and make that happen, . All the best!
3. I just want to throw in that Rhaya'li is super fantastic both as a player and as a character. He has strong ideas on the storylines he wishes to pursue and works hard to actualise them both in networking with others and in facilitating adventures related to his character's goals. Don't let Rhaya'li's IC prickliness fool you; here is roleplay of the highest calibre, sadly sequestered to an abominable (for our purposes) timezone. Also, I'd be more than happy to add myself (as GMT+8) to busybody in on any additional connection Rhaya'li manages to snag here!
4. C'io would loathe to label herself as an expert, but given what I know of the circumstances surrounding the killings, she could be called upon for an expert testimony on the magical aspects of the case -- or driven to help in any investigations that the barristers need to conduct. Her logic and expression are also strong enough that she could possibly be a barrister, but without a license and without a formal knowledge of law, particularly Ishgardian law, she might make a poor advocate. Her hat's pretty cool, though. Possible spoilers: A note on the Judges of the Tribunal. Given the alterations to Ishgard's government, would it not be, at this point, mixed with at least one non-noble judge appointed by the House of Commons? One noble, one clergy, one common, or a mix of the above?
5. Haha, and just to exhibit Sounssey's philosophy on that, C'io's Coeurl tribe is totally different from the one C'kayah linked, and that's all perfectly okay, . A fun place to look for tribe/sect personality is the Xaela tribe list. When it first came out, I tried to see what people's fun headcanons were for their own Seeker tribes here -- -- Seeker Tribes with Fan-Made Xaela-Style Lore Have fun with your Vulture. Maybe, like the comprehensive Coeurl page, you'll find others wanting to use your interpretation in future. And even if they don't, being an outlier can be fun too!
6. Our initial interviews will be because we need extra hands. The Guiding Light is only officially, in-character, at around 4 members, and it needs more to complete the following task to help us pay the bills: DOCUMENTING THE SILENT KING Thursday, March 16 @ 9pm EST The Thaumaturge Guild normally catalogues annual changes to Belah'diah ruins, but this year they are fed up with the ruins popularly coined "The Silent King" because of anomalies on-site; the thaumaturges would rather be conducting "more important research" for some upcoming bragging meeting, so they put in a request with us to complete documentation on the site. Apparently, the situation at the Silent King is that the data keeps changing: inscriptions have now altered to no longer match the years worth of archives, and markings and weathering that are present and noted down one hour are gone by the next. "Figure out what's mummer's farce is going on and we'll throw in a bonus, but if you can't just leave that Twelvesdamn place be. We can go back to it after our conference of we have to.” We also have an additional in-house request from Syhrwyb: “Cast some lines down by Crescent Cove, will ya, and bring back what you catch, even if it is just boots.”
7. Hurray! Ok, so despite a week's delay from sickness (me, >_>), The Guiding Light is now officially open! Our story together starts here, which of course means we have to be together, so to facilitate that, here are the in-character interview/induction times (open by appointment) for new recruits! INTERVIEW TIMES (All times in EST) Sundays 9pm - 2am Mondays 8pm - 12mn Tuesdays 8pm - 12mn Thursdays 9pm - 12mn VENUE The Hooded Lantern, Goblet Ward 1, 23. or elsewhere by request
8. Hi Koen! I'd also like to sign up my character C'io to learn from Koen's long years of experience. Are you setting this up as a class/squad training or individualized instruction? C'io's martial experience is mainly in monster hunting as a pack, so she's good at guerilla fighting and the pile-up of many vs one, but not at regimented warfare or multiple foes. She's also becoming too reliant on her magic to deal with scenarios of conflict outside of what she is accustomed to, and her weapon arm is growing soft. I think she'd benefit greatly from learning a career soldier's perspective and fighting techniques. Her preferred melee weapon is the sword, but she would be willing to learn using what Koen feels most appropriate to teaching good soldiery. Looking forward to your reply, and will keep an eye out for you in the game too!
9. Hi! Welcome to Balmung, Maeve! Sorry I missed this earlier; EST Fridays are big workdays for me, so I always get scarce. I saw your post on the The Guiding Light's page, and I see Kasi mentioned us here (thanks Kasi, ) ). I totally don't mind helping you get comfortable with this beautiful game! As a bonus, I was also a long-time roleplayer in WoW, though I stopped just after Wrath of the Lich King, so we have that in common, . However, I do need to correct that, as of yet, my FC does not have much of a presence that corresponds with normal EU times. Some of our NA players come on early enough, but for those of us in Asia, I think your prime times are our sleepy times. (If this were a game of rock paper scissors, EU would beat JST, JST - NA, NA - EU.) That said, we can still try make something work, and I'm still very open to talking this out with you to see if we can't find a common time-ground!
10. I am excited about this post because the concept sounds like amazing potential fun -- and also because I am a fellow social studies teacher, hello! Welcome to the profession! It is less time consuming than being a researcher was, but the kids find ways to fill your schedule up all the same, haha. This is a quick reply as I have to hurry and set up the classroom for the day, but what I can offer on a personal and FC level is the specialist angle! My FC, The Guiding Light, has its headquarters in Ul'dah and is focused on the use of knowledge to serve the Eorzean people. If we don't have the skill or expertise you are looking for, we are willing (I am willing) to go out into the RP world and find someone with it! Then drag them over to you. Personally, C'io herself was once a tracker for the Flames, and now conducts her own research into various ancient magics and the social and otherwise reasons for why some of those magics are cast as "forbidden." For antagonist coordination and criminal informants, while they are Shroud-quartered, I highly suggest talking to The Mischief's Coven, an FC that is built to help connect and OOC coordinate the criminal element to those in the community looking to use it in their stories!
11. Hi! Welcome to the site and to the roleplaying side of the game! I play C'io, who is now assistant director of The Guiding Light. Sorry about the dearth of information on TGL on the RPC; while I have made the page for it recently (it's in my signature), I can't seem to figure out how to make the RPC actually display it on the Free Companies listings. I'll let you go read the link yourself, but the short of it is is that The Guiding Light is a nascent Free Company dedicated to knowledge and how its study and dissemination can benefit the realm, particularly against the Garlean Empire which is a superpower whose strength lies in aggressive archeology and research. It is to our detriment to become slack in that department. Of course, we're not that grand yet. Not close. Right now we're still finishing construction, still getting the group together, and just beginning our first project into Eorzean Attitudes on Refugees, which should be a fun piece to work on together. Let me know what you think once you go through it! If not the FC, we can at least discuss ways for Albus and C'io to become contacts, . I see on the Welcome Desk that reaching out and forming contacts is something you're working on, which is true for me also, but I'm building my network steadily! We can build ours steadily together, haha. (I have discovered why Azeyma's Oath is apparently on site and The Guiding Light appears to not be (though it is): there is a second page(!) to this FC listing where all the T's hang out! Long mystery solved )
12. I am here because of the words Miqo'te Summoner, >_>. But I am guilty of being the opposite of what you are asking for, although perhaps with a little dash of salt. Hear me out! Before C'io fulfilled the requirements to even being aware of her capacity for Summoning, she was a tribal monster hunter-type miqo'te who had traveled to Ul'dah chasing stories of the valiant Warriors of Light and was instead faced with some of the worst facets of a city whose primary obsession is coin. She worked jobs of heavy labour to avoid more compromising employment, and still performs all manner of simple tasks because she understands the value of small gestures -- especially after working and living among Ala Mhigans, whom she tried to help but ultimately could not beyond day-to-day subsistence. She had to learn that the problems between Ul'dah and its refugees were too far beyond one person to alleviate, and re-calibrated to simply touch what lives she could. Sometimes, that feeling still drowns her in helplessness, though not as often as it used to. These are experiences C'io can use to help Tali'ra figure the balance between his own ideals and capabilities. Plus I'm pretty interested in having her interact with another summoner, if you're up for that, .
13. Ahhh! Oh no, I didn't quite mean that so strongly as to say they wouldn't match up so well. Of course, if you are alright giving a really, really new and tiny start-up a chance, I would be totally open to it; I just worry about how pulling you over when I don't know if I can really guarantee something yet. It'd be a fixer-upper, to be sure, but you'd also get a pretty good stake RP-wise on how we proceed through inception and our early days. (See the How to Join Disclaimer in my Guiding Light post, haha.) Which characters in particular did you have in mind? We could try brave the Timezone Adventure together, see if it works for us. Regardless of your choices, though, I'd like to try find those intersections between your time and mine! Hahaha, the interaction with Ysolda would be interesting! I'm not sure if C'io would describe magic in quite the same way as other scholars given that she's a jock turned to magician. She actually quite resists the nerd stereotype, even if she has adapted far too well to its diction-abusing ways! Could you give me an idea as to what hours you are on? Leave the timezone math to me, .
14. Okay, I was hanging back a little to let the shier people who haven't been able to dig out some good roleplay in the game yet take the stage, but the mention of world RP and fluid, adapting walk-up RP caught my attention. I want to work with you on that, on bringing it back. I'll admit that I don't know how it works now that roleplay has become more paragraph-y and less quick bursts of dialogue and action (anecdotal, so may not describe the whole population), but I'm willing to learn insofar as it brings us back to the open world!
