IC Advertisement Moogles make amazing messengers. Hand them a letter, and the recipient finds it waiting for them the very next instant. But what if you’re not good friends with the recipient? Well, then you’re just out of luck... Or are you? Diamond Dog Couriers was founded to help the adventurers or Eorzea circumnavigate the problems inherent with moogle delivery services. Unlike moogles, anyone can see our couriers. The members of DDC are adventurers, just like you, and they’re dedicated to making deliveries, great or small, in a safe and timely fashion. Discretion is valued by DDC, even more so than gil. Each of our couriers are bound to secrecy on the contents of every delivery. How is that possible? Magic! The acting Service Coordinator of DDC is Sygrina Drysfolgwyn, a humble Salt Witch who uses her magic to personally, irrevocably—and, above all, harmlessly—bind every courier to secrecy in regards to their deliveries. Note that this service is completely optional, but adds an extra level of insurance should it be desired. The degree of secrecy couriers are bound to is decided by the client. The most basic level is refraining from revealing a package or message’s sender, such as sending a rose as a secret admirer, or an anonymous threat to a hated enemy. Whatever the contents, we ask that you please not attack the messenger in return. The maximum level of spellbinding forces the courier to forget a message the moment it is successfully delivered through whispers. While this assures the security of your communiqué, it also makes it necessary for the recipient to listen very carefully. Should someone attempt to force a spellbound courier to reveal the secret of their delivery, they will instead recite unrelated poetry, shanties, or a string of elaborate profanity—it depends on the nature of the courier. Rest assured, your secrets are safe with us. Diamond Dog Couriers: Our Service Shines! To inquire about a delivery, please contact Sygrina Drysfolgwyn, Tausenadel Geispyrsyn, or Dhemgeim Shyrdoenwyn. The same goes for inquiries on joining DDC as a full-time or freelance courier. We’d be happy to serve you, and even happier to have you with us! OOC FAQ Who are you people? DDC is primarily an EST based Medium RP FC focused on acting as a delivery service, but we’re also a casual PVE guild on the side. Our founding members are all adults with jobs and other responsibilities, so we understand the importance of keeping the game a fun thing to do on our off hours. FC chat is IC as much as possible, but ((OOC chat like so is still okay as needed)). We even do dungeons IC from time to time. Do I have to join the FC to be a courier? Not necessarily, which is why we have the option of being a freelancer. The same rules of secrecy still apply, though. Do you have a public LS? Of course! IC it's known as our Diamond Preferred Linkshell. Just inquire about a pearl IC and we'll shoot you an invite. You can use the LS to ask about deliveries, request RP, or just chat amongst yourselves IC. How do deliveries work? First, you contact one of our officers (Syg, Tau, or Dhem) IC about the job. It could be delivering an item, sending a message in person, or both. If it’s a message, please PM it via the forums so we can be sure to relay it exactly correct. A meeting will be arranged, and you’ll either trade the item to your designated courier, or act like you’re handing over the message you PMed us IC. Once the hand-off is complete, we’ll go the person designated to receive the delivery. Typically, to make things easier, we’ll whisper them OOC to pin down where they are and meet up. Once the delivery is made… Well, who knows? All sorts of role-playing possibilities could be sparked. Is there a fee for these services? Not really, but tips are appreciated, especially if your courier needs to teleport across the continent to make the delivery. I received an anonymous delivery! Will you tell me who sent it OOC? Nope. We’re not kidding about secrecy. Do you do IC events? We have some ideas. Keep watching the calendar for more details.

That was pretty much Syg's RP debut, and it was awesome. Thanks to everybody who chatted and added me as a friend.

I like your style, it's very striking. I look forward to seeing more.

I found out how terrible Digital River is only after I ordered from SE. The funny thing is I ordered from them directly specifically because I've had problems with Amazon and GameStop in the past. Not only did I find my 2nd key in my spam folder, they resent a second e-mail the next day, which didn't end up in spam, but by then I had already entered the code from the first e-mail. Guess there's still problems with their mailing system. I hope you guys get it resolved soon.

I aim to put the L in LGBT. I'll bother you folks in game for an invite sometime.

I'm indeed on Balmung as Y'el Vhez, and yes, we should definitely RP, though Y'el's not one to talk much, let alone about her messed up branch of the tribe. I'm really looking forward to meeting other Miqo'te and seeing people's takes on things in play... Just as soon as logging in no longer requires me to watch TV hitting 0 until I get in the queue.

I've always thought of Seekers as being like prides of lions, with the dominant males still depending on the females that support him and bear his children. A Nunh in a leadership role would have twice the amount of looking over his shoulder to do, given he'd have to protect both his position as a leader and as a Nunh, so I don't see that being very desirable. Though a badass mofo of a Nunh could probably handle it, I think Tia have the advance when it comes to holding other positions of power, seeing as they don't have to worry about the duty of siring. In Y'el's story, her father was pretty much only good for pumping out kids, and kept his position more through guile than brute strength... Something else to think about. Her retainers are with her thanks to a desperate ploy by the elders of her branch of the tribe (it's important to note I don't necessarily think the rest of the Jaguar tribe is like them; just her immediate family) to force her to stop adventuring by having two wanna-be Nunhs get her pregnant. They're still technically Tia, but were promised they'd become Nunh officially if they knock her up. The thing is they're not worthy, and would lose the title in a hot second if challenged. This is just me playing with the politics of gaining power. The elders of Y'el's family are particularly manipulative like that, given their desperation to assure their particular bloodline doesn't die out since Dalamund decimated it. When it comes to tribes, I don't think there's really a right or wrong way to play it. What really matters is the particular branch/familial circle your character comes from. That's where you really have the freedom to do as you see fit. Some branches are going to allow their men more power, others will use them only as breeding stock while the females do all the heavy lifting. The members of the same tribe might also balk at the practices of their cousins. We have the lore as a guideline and foundation to build upon, no one has to play it exactly the same. As for the differences in naming, I see Seekers being named after the male who sired them because a male could potentially sire a lot of children in his lifetime, so it helps to keep track of who came from who. Keepers, with their much smaller tribes and smaller number of males, instead go for taking the names of their mothers, and the numbering of males is because they're just so damn rare, so each number is its own little badge of honor regardless of the actual value. I see both as matters of practicality, not something that lends more power to either sex.

Good things are worth waiting for. With any luck, the improved server infrastructure will make all these log-in woes go away.

Is there a way to change your appearence without deleting your character?

I hope they add new hairstyles in the future. As nice as it is that females have different options with styles that have bows and headbands, I want more! More variety! More accessory colors! Actually, having as many options for hair accessories as you do for hair and eyes would be really nice. But in the meantime, you can always wear a hat if you're bored with your current look. -
People are jerks, especially in /shout. I tend to have it muted for that reason. If all else fails, just walk up to people and start RPing. You'd be surprised at how often you can meet new people that way.

I'm looking forward to this, even though my character is going to be a bit out of place in polite company. Weekends are generally clear for me, so I should still be able to make it even if server issues necessitate pushing it back.

That brings up an interesting question. How do you think the familial relations look among the miqo'te? They're not exactly monogamous creatures, and according to the lore the rites and rituals regarding who can and cannot be a Nunh is to ensure that the offspring are of the finest stock. That seems very detached and practical. It doesn't sound like love ever enters into it. Not romantic love anyway. Could it be that since the Nunh is just a breeding male, he is expected to sire many children, and thus would be too busy to take part in raising any of them? And so, perhaps strong familial bonds would only exist between the mother and the child, and not the father and the child. That's kind of how I play my Seeker. Her father banged out a lot of different kids with different mates, so there's a lot of siblings out there, but Y'el only really connected with her mother.

It's ultimately up to the moderators either way.

I already posted my feelings on this in the last thread, but I had several friends who were scattered across other servers until I said I was playing on Balmung. All of them had chosen servers based purely on their names, like Cactuar and Ultros. They were very recognizable things from FF, so it was a snap decision. And all of my friends from those servers, to a man, remarked on how Balmung had significantly fewer people with names like "Kitty Mewmewmew" or "Siton Miface". Yeah, it has its share of those names, plus Strifes and Leonhearts, but apparently there was enough of a difference that they were shocked by all the "real names" on Balmung. My fear is that any server named after a recognizable villain, monster, or whatever, is going to draw a lot more people who go for "lulzy" names and griefing RPers. Gilgamesh has appeared in several Final Fantasy games, and may even appear in XIV given all his dimension hopping, so its a pretty recognizable name. Balmung, being a weapon that's not named Excalibur or Masamune, isn't. Yeah, I know you're gonna have people stripping naked and dancing in front of you no matter which server you're on, but my friends hadn't even looked at Balmung until I told them I was playing there. You might think this will negatively impact the server's population, but the 1.0 players who are gonna transfer have transferred, and all that remains are new players. When you google "FFXIV roleplay", this is the first site that pops up, and then you see Balmung is the primary RP server. So really that's more wheat for the server as a whole, so to speak, and less chaff with Lalafell named "Pedo Bait." I'm also really glad character gen randomizes the list of servers it suggests, as that also rules out people just picking the server at the top of the list. That was a problem when Secret World's first RP server was renamed from Faerie (after many complaints about the implications) to Arcadia, as the server quickly filled up thanks to people just picking the top choice.
