  1. Due to recent events I've decided to disband the free company aspect of our group. The Linkshells will remain open and anyone interested in joining the linkshell is encouraged to apply on our website.
  2. Hello World! Just a quick update that we are back more fully now than we have been with the holidays behind us. Recruitment is open fully to all characters in whatever stage of their life they may be in. If you're interested drop us a line in game or on our website : thelantern.enjin.com . Happy new year everyone! -Neka
  3. I suppose I should preface this by saying I am the current leader of an MRP themed LS/FC so my opinion on the subject is quite biased. I will also state this is my opinion and I have not read through the thread and apologize if I restate something someone else has stated more eloquently. However, disclaimer's out of the way, and this will likely be long because I am terrible at keeping things short : It's the subject that's often debated in every MMO that I have currently encountered. "ERP" to me is generally divided in two basic categories. There are those who wish to log in and simply ERP with each other for no purpose other than the scene in question or in layman's terms "Short term RP". To me I generally consider this "cybering" as the sole purpose of it is short non-lasting and often only for the benefit of the people behind the computers for sexual stimulation. It's not -always- the case, but in my experience 9/10 people who practice this are only doing it in place of generic porn. Then there's the second category: those like myself who see life as not being G-rated and figure that their characters lives should also not be g-rated. Regardless whether people will admit it or not, sex has a huge impact on one's mood due to the endorphins released and the events leading up to the act. There's a huge difference between going out to a bar and getting plastered only to wake up next to someone you thought you'd never talk to much less wake up with the next morning and being secretly madly in love with someone only to finally have them notice you and take you out to dinner and things escalate from there. The latter is mostly what I'm going to discuss as the former I prefer to ignore it's existence due to bad past experiences with this particular group. From a character perspective the two above scenarios can play out and affect the character in different ways. It leads to questions, drama, and more importantly -character-. The choices we make in real life tend to shape who we are as people and as such in my opinion it is the only way to shape a character's life. I, like many people, start with a simplistic idea only to build on it through people I meet in RP. Occasionally, like anyone else, I'll have an idea for a story or scene that shaped was significant to the character's history/personality but before they encountered anyone in the game world, however the bulk of my quirks are shaped by the people I associate with. If my character were to be intimate with someone else's character there's always context just like the real world. I think the stigma comes down to the videos or the idea of people playing MMO's for porn instead of the MMO. I think it's fair to say there is more than enough fan art and other forum communities to support this idea. I've learned to look at gaming communities much like high school. Regardless of the actual age of the players, maturity will always vary. Through maturity one broadens their perspective on matters such as sex and context of it all. The immature typically follow the crowd and speak on ignorance because it's considered the "cool" thing to do. I have been on PVE based servers where I have "confessed" to being one of those "faggity role-players" they made fun of all day. I have been teased for it yet on the flip side with full focused RP servers the raider in me has been teased by RPers as being elitist. Players who engage in both aspects of a game or more so in both aspects of RP (Mature and Vanilla) run the risk of being tortured by others who also play said game. The bottom line is generally it's ignorance and a lack of respect for people's play styles both in game and in RP. Life is too short to be held back by people who aren't open-minded enough to in the least respect your choice of entertainment. As an additive on the subject of minors as it does pop up every time there is an ERP discussion, The game is rated T for teen. There is an ESRB content warning essentially absolving SE from responsibility for what players say and do. While I am a full supporter of parents actually parenting their kids instead of letting videogames and TV parent for them, I think it's unfair to think that one who engages in activities such as ERP will not come across a minor at least once in their role-play "career". The truth of the matter is that forum communities dedicated to such discussion are often based on the honor system. Human beings as a whole unfortunately have mastered the art of lying. Many of these websites have a simple question asking if they are over the age of 18 or 21 in some countries. By simply pressing "Yes" you gain access to their registration. There is no sign up fee, nor is there a drivers license check. Even with said information a minor could easily have borrowed mommy or daddy's credit card and license and pretend they are older. Gaming communities simply do not and will never have the resources to keep minors out of the mature circle and to hold them responsible for a parents lack of judgement (ie parenting) is simply unrealistic and unfair to everyone who uses the internet. /2c
  4. The Lantern is still active though pending leadership change. Stay tuned. We are as per usual still recruiting and Rping.
  5. >Has your character changed from beta/release? During Beta I changed her a lot, I toyed with the idea of a single eye color then started working with multi-colored eyes, different hairstyles and color combinations. Skin tones were also very changeable. Heck at one point in beta I actually considered making her a Seeker but it just didn't fit what I envisioned her to be. From beta to release however? Nope. Still the same. >Have your expectations out of the RP community changed? I didn't really have any expectations as I wasn't engaged in the Beta RP community. However from years past I can say the community so far is the best I've come across. It's very supportive and appears to be open to ideas which is essential for a healthy community to thrive and grow.
  6. As I've gotten some whispers about our theme and the types we're recruiting I'll post it here just to clarify. I know I get long winded at times so I'll try to keep this short. We are recruiting: EVERYONE. Yes, Everyone. Every character type, every theme. Our premise for our RP cannot exist in the shadows without the good natured characters covering by serving food and drink for the ones butchering people in the basement. (Not really *shifty eyes* ) If you've got an idea for a character and are just looking for a great home with even better people Give us a try. Toss in an application or speak to myself or Raih'zi Molkoh for more information. :moogle:
  7. I am shamelessly going to post this but my entire free company is based around the criminal theme and we too are on Balmung. Perhaps we should chat a bit in game or via PM.
  8. Of course! We like to think of ourselves as flexible and open to all character types. While criminal types will likely be the most popular due to our running theme, it is not one we solely want to focus on to the point of exclusionary. I envision ourselves as being able to host events from banquets to secret fighting tournaments. (still working out details!) What I can say is that for the basic catering needs of course we will need the "server" types and "chef's" and likely just general entertainment types as well. Every wedding (well most anyways!) has some form of a reception party that includes live entertainment. First and foremost we want to be open to ideas that are within the lore boundaries. As long as there is no current lore that would contradict an idea or the idea is outside of the realm of "plausible" we believe players should be allowed free reign with their characters.
  9. I. Basic Info Characters:Nekada Lusiera Primary character:Nekada Lusiera Linkshells:The Lantern, The Lantern OOC Primary RP linkshell:The Lantern II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium-Heavy Views on RP combat and injuries: Perfectly acceptable as long as injuries do not lead to death or severe permanent incapacitation of my character. (ie severed spine resulting in paralysis) I would prefer a warning for injuries of broken limbs or what not. Magic is a tool for healing and what not but I believe the body would still suffer effects from the initial wound even if magic has healed it. For example a broken ankle that was recently mended may be unstable as the muscles and tendons try to recover from the initial injury. Views on IC romance: Perfectly fine, though Neka being Neka this would be difficult from the romantic view. However while not exactly romantic I'll mention it here, she is the type for drunken nights in taverns resulting in some very interesting situations. I will also note that I'm not looking for anything to extend oocly. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): If it ties into what I have running currently I'm willing to work with it. (Lusiera is not actually her last name, so anyone wishing to be related to her in some shape or form should contact me about it first.) Views on lore: I tend to stick to lore, but "sticking to lore" can be flexible. I think as long as there is no lore counter-indicating something is possible then its workable. However if I feel it's too iffy for me to engage my character in I will speak up. Generally things are more fun when one stays inside of the lines instead of going all part Roegadyn, lalafell, and miqo'te ect. I am also new to lore which explains Neka's history and the way she acts. If I get something completely wrong feel free to correct me in a constructive manner. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Linkshell chat as a walkie talkie system as depicted in lore just simple does not fit my RP style. I am a paragraph RPer that includes multiple details on what may be going through my characters mind at that moment or various actions she may be doing. I am perfectly fine with both IC and OOC linkshell chats but it needs to be clear cut when something is IC or not so I can respond accordingly. /say and /em are generally IC. However I will confess to having some fun with the in game animations for emotes. Those times however are strictly OOC. ^.^() Going to list this here too but a minor pet peeve of mine is quotation use in /say. It's already "say" you don't need the quotations to indicate you're speaking *eyetwitch*. III. Other Info Country:US of 'murika Timezone:Eastern -5 GMT Contact info: In game : Nekada Lusiera Email: [email protected], thelantern.enjin.com (via thread or private message: Nekada ) IV. Roleplay Ideas The Thief Neka as a character has a tendency to have "sticky" fingers. So much so she's nearly made a profession out of it alone. This of course could lead to interactions with multitudes of characters she's managed to 'rip off' in one way or another OR someone looking to hire her for her rumored skills. The Lantern Without turning this into a full blown ad (Seen Here) She is Co-owner of the inn and it’s shadowy dealings. This knowledge could lead one into hiring her ‘special services’ or otherwise attempt to cash in a bounty for past deeds. The Artist As mentioned above, Lusiera is not her true last name but rather the name of her alter-personality. Lusiera herself is nearly completely opposite of Neka in every way including when it comes to combat. Lusiera is the magical half to Neka's brute force weaponry and also the more artistic half. She is almost always short on gil and tends to barter with her art pieces for various goods or to make up for her clumsiness. 10. Updated Recruitment post. <3 Stay tuned, Events to follow!
  11. Linkshell has been disbanded due to inactivity. There was a faint glow of light that lit up a section of the darkened ally way. One of many that filled the slums and back ways of Ul'Dah, the supposed city of Riches and Prosperity. Though this was the case for few, for others it was a hide-away for the dark and demented. A man stood in corner of the light, only the bottom portion of his robes visible through the light. Donning on his own dark robes, Raih'zi approached him slowly with his hands on a bound grimore at his side."Do you have what I requested?" Raih'zi said in a solid, serious tone. The other male didn't make any motions, speaking instead of moving further into the light. "You ask too much, I cannot pay the amount you request…" Raih'zis' eyes narrow upon the figure, ears folding back underneath his hood. Without hesitation Raih'zi reached for his grimore and opened it, and with a simple motion of his finger on the pages, fire erupted from behind him brightening the entire alleyway. Out of the burst, a small primal beast snarled; flames radiating off of him. Slowly it moved around from behind Raih and stood in front of him as if awaiting orders. "I'll ask again, do you have what I requested?" His tone was unmoving, unchanged from before still the cool and collected serious tone that he spoke just moments ago. Though through his actions it was obvious he was very irritated. The other figure stood there in slight horror but stayed in the darkness. "G-Give me one more day... I-I-I'll have the gil then... please..." The man pleaded, begging. With a small grin the Summoner closed his grimoire and placed it back at his side; the small beast fading away into the aether. "You are lucky I am generous.. Nekada would not let you have a second chance. However, if you fail to cooperate this time... Your punishment will be far worse than what she would do..." With that being said he turned and walked out of the dark alleyway, knowing no one would question what happened and that everyone would know to listen to him. Quick Highlights Respect, Equality, Maturity. We're a medium-RP group. We support both RP and ERP. Small, but tight-knit, Our focus is high quality RP. IC and OOC Linkshells available Teamspeak Server available. We are recruiting! All characters and alignments are welcome!
  12. Probably. Though Neka icly wouldn't need a reason to drink. "It's a day that ends in 'Y' " *glug glug* At least there's some good that came out of this. I'd still rather be playing the game though. The only entertaining thing I have at the moment is the mental imagery of a bunch of game devs being screamed at and beaten for shaming SqaureEnix with their stability issues. I know that's horrible. However I'm hoping the realm lockdowns are only a temporary thing till launch. I can't imagine them trying to launch a game in which people will have to immediately pay to transfer to the server of their friends since they're unable to roll there.
  13. *sigh* Yeah still nothing. :frustrated:
  14. Yay. 3102! I have to say I was lucky enough to get my character on Balmung though. Many of my guild haven't been so lucky with constant crashes and what not. Is there anything new regarding the issues? With the main forums down I'm not sure where to look for information. I've checked Facebook and Twitter but nothing recent. Makes me a sad Miqo'te.
  15. I'm sure carriages would have a fee. It's hard to predict an actual cost in terms of purchasing power (for reasons discussed on another thread but basically boiling down to "gil costs do not represent reality"), but any long-distance travel is, I believe, going to be quite pricey and difficult for the average citizen. I'd suggest that, since new adventurers end up in the city-states with little more than the clothes on their back and a head full of dreams, long distance travel via carriage is expensive enough to render average people largely destitute. Informative! Thank you.
  16. Ah! That picture made me giggle. Thanks for mentioning the PC section, I wouldn't have thought to look there.
  17. Thank you! :moogle: It's quite possible! Yes, I agree BC/Wotlk raiding doesn't feel too old school to people who were there. To my credit I did attempt raiding in Vanilla... but wiping on the bat priestess in ZF I don't think counts for much... <.< I'm glad to hear you say that, It'll be great to have a thriving end game RPPVE community. It is one of the many aspects my guild wants to tackle but of course it may help to be capped first. One thing at a time. Phase four can't come soon enough.
  18. I'm glad this thread was made! As a new player I'm curious if carriages would have a fee, and if so how much typically would that fee be? I'm looking at doing a journey of some sort from Gridania to Ul'dah.
  19. It's fine no worries. I know I'm the new kid on the block. :3 Thanks for the link! I will definitely do some reading. :moogle:
  20. Wonderful idea sir! Look forward to seeing this in action and rping with you all. Ma'am* But I too am excited. Ever since WoW fell through I've been hoping someone would release an amazing subscription based game. Thankfully that someone is SE and not Acti-blizz. With Linkshells being akin to chat channels I will likely set one up for potential members (as I think you need to be 20 or so for free companies) and ooc alliances. I will also create a second Linkshell strictly for IC chatter and open to really anyone who would like to roleplay in our setting while leveling or otherwise enjoying the game.
  21. Oh wow Thank you. It'll definitely take me a few hours to absorb all that!
  22. Thank you. It's much appreciated.
  23. As I'm in a posting mood which happens very rarely since I tend to shy away from the spotlight, I figured I would post here and state that my guild is looking to transfer from another game into FFXIV and Gilgamesh as of current is where we are potentially looking to call home. I don't want to step on Lizzo's toes but we too were looking at doing a tavern theme in/around Ul'dah albeit with a more shady theme. Our current setup is mature themed with criminal undertones. The tavern is but a front to fund illegal activity ranging from questionable trades to intimidation and assassination practices. Which semi-works well with what I've learned of the Linkshell/Free Company system. Full lore of course is still being hammered out as many of us are new to the RP community and the game in general. We're experienced roleplayers but that crafty lore is eluding. I will briefly mention it here, we do have a system for bounties we attempted to use... however the lack of bites is rather disheartening so we'll likely do a retranslate of it to FF14 once more is known about the PVP aspect of the game. I would really like to see it take off but I'll need support to fully launch it. In closing I'm looking forward to the chance of roleplaying with you guys. :moogle:
  24. We've been after SE basically since the launch of 1.0 about an official RP server. Kylin's latest questioning of SE about it left us with the usual "we'll bring it up again" thing. SE is well aware that we want a RP server designated and we are constantly bothering them about it, but it just doesn't seem to be happening. Multiple threads created by different people at different times isn't the way to keep on SE about the issue. You need a megathread. Take the limit break mechanic for example. When it was addressed in regards to limit break being made individual over a raid cooldown it had 20+ pages of discussion with around 600 likes before I noticed the response from Yoshi-P. That is what the rp community needs to do. They aren't going to come to a third party site to see what people think. They want to be able to look through threads at a glance and see that "Wow there's a lot of pull for this idea" and that eventually turns into more than just the "Oh we'll discuss it" line before it's swept under the rug and forgotten. If you want something bad enough you fight for it until things change. With a game that hasn't officially re-launched yet I would think now more than ever is the time to start screaming about it. I'll end this train of thought with a quote from the Dalai Lama, "If you think you are too small to make a difference, Try sleeping with a mosquito." As for the topic at hand as to not derail, I'm still largely undecided. As of right now my guild is leaning towards Gilgamesh but it largely depends on what SE does in open beta. A vast majority of us are new players and with the scattered community between three different servers (that I know of) it feels there's a few too many options.
