Greetings! I am a UK player on Balmung, would this hamper my application to join your FC in any way? I am a fairly casual player with my highest class only at Lv28 so far but I have been on the look out for a mature, relaxed and friendly guild that caters for both RP and PvE.

I've always been DPS in every other MMO I've played but I'm pretty keen to end up a Paladin in FFXIV just for the different experience. My biggest problem though is the idea of reading up on fights beforehand. I want to go into a dungeon and be surprised, feel like I'm exploring, etc Doing my homework on the fight mechanics before going in feels like reading a full synopsis for a film before watching it. On the other hand though I don't want to be the cause of my duty finder party having a terrible run.

Still not in, I'm raging! What a weekend this has been! I get my wallet stolen while out on friday night, my 2yo daughter dislocates her elbow on saturday morning so that's about 6 hours in A&E (Thankfully they fixed it like wizards!) and now I can't play the beta I've been looking forward to for ages because I can't get into the server. I second the monitor throwing, desk flipping gifs!

This is torture! I notice that Moogle is back up, do I hang on for my first choice of Balmung or give in and join my EU brothers and sisters on Moogle? It's funny how server choice has such a huge effect on your in game experience but it's often done at random.

EDIT: *sigh* I'm an idiot. Missing the point of this thread entirely by not rating the name above my post! Connal Fearon - I'm gonna go 8/10 It's pretty good, has a bit of an Irish tilt to my ears. It's not just an average name you'd hear every day. Good stuff. I'm really struggling for names I like for my male Wildwood Elezen. Wow, some great info. Which class is getting that awesome gear with the large feathered hat? Bard maybe? I'm still struggling to pick a main job, anything could swing it!

Wow, really interesting thread. I'm looking at this from the other side of the fence so to speak as I'll be making a WW Elezen. I'm not a racist IRL (just to clarify!) and although I knew that there was a degree of bad blood between the DW and the WW I hadn't really thought about what that meant for day to day role play. I understand the need to role play in the world as it is and not treat your character as an island on their own. I had planned to be fairly open and accepting of other races in general as Eisen's life was saved by a Hyur when he was younger. Now I'm thinking that it might be an interesting idea to play with the duality of being quite open with other races but with an ingrained dislike of DW Elezen. Anyway, I don't want to side track too much! My worry of playing out the relationship between the DW and the WW would be that it might reflect on me as the player, leaving people with a potentially negative opinion of me if they weren't aware of the lore surrounding the Elezen or viewed it differently. It might also end up in the strange situation where I actively want to role play with DW characters but they don't want to RP with me because of my characters views. So in a way my character gets what he wants but I don't!

What do you think will happen to models we currently have saved in the P3 client? Will we be able to transfer then over to the new character creator?

Thanks for the replies! Good to hear that I shouldn't have too much of a problem finding people to play with at crazy times. Disappointing that the Arcanist might only be available upon launch, I suppose I'll roll as a CNJ first as I presume that would be handy for some cross class skills on my ACN.

Hello all, So, I started playing FF games when VII was released, I was in my mid teens which will give you a ballpark for my current age Since then I've played and completed most of the other releases and also played many an MMO like WoW, AoC, Rift, GW1/2, etc. I played the last weekend of the Phase 3 Beta and I'm very impressed with what they have done with the game, it seems like a combination of a lot of things I like about other MMOs. I'm just glad they didn't follow GW2 down the path of the action MMO where there are no defined class roles, grouping just becomes a free for all. I've burned myself out on MMOs in the past but I've come to the conclusion that it may be because I always play the same role (caster DPS). I was tempted by going down the route of CNJ and GLA which would give me access to both PLD and WHM but from what I've been reading it seems like a lot of people are doing that. Over the past few days the idea of the Arcanist has really started to appeal to me, it probably fits in more with the kind of character I tend to RP as well. I'm hoping it will be available from the start of Open Beta! I always usually roll the human equivalent but I think I'll go for Elzen this time, I didn't actually seen that may of them in the beta. I'm always torn in terms of server/guild choice as I like to experience both end game progression and roleplay within an MMO. I read somewhere that Moogle may have a small concentration of UK role players but I've also seen a lot of talk about the EU servers having a high number of non English speaking players. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I hope the games takes off as much as possible across Europe, but I'd rather play on a predominantly English speaking realm. That means that I'll probably roll on an NA server despite fears that no one will be playing at the same time as me which would probably rule out ever getting a raid slot or equivalent. I've been looking at Balmung or Midgarsomr but I can't seem to decide between the two, I know that there are a lot of role players on Balmung but I can't decide whether being on a Legacy server will have a positive or negative impact on my experience. Anyway, thanks for reading this rambling wall of text! Any input is welcome and maybe I'll catch some of you in game sometime!
