I think that someone already mentioned this, but it's unnecessarily humankind-centric to assume that all of the races have similar signs of ageing. The lack of faces is analogous to the lack of body types. There aren't a lot of body type options, either: e.g. you can't make a fat character. You are allowed to choose from a spectrum of chiselled to lean. This should not lead to the assumption that fat people, skinny people, emaciated people, or apple-, hourglass-, pear-, or etc. shaped people do not exist in the world. Therefore, surely older and younger folks of every race exist, especially with their own physical characteristics indicating as much. The relevant question of the thread is how old terms "older" and "oldest" indicate for each race. The arguments based on character creation aesthetic have little basis and seem to have caused a spot of digression from the original topic.

This is such a cool idea! I'd like to make one if I felt like I could put the effort/time into it (I'm not already a tumblr user). Really enjoying looking through other people's, also, so thanks for sharing.

I'm similarly open to RP if you see me around or shoot me a PM/tell! My character's name on Balmung in Halpask Zwelfsyn. See you around & welcome to the community.

Nice to meet you! I'm Time Tyrn on Gilgamesh, so likewise if you see me around feel free to chat me up. I'm always looking for friends for PvE, too, so whether it's RP or otherwise I'm friendly. As far as tips or help, I'd recommend this thread.

Hi! Nice to meet you. I'm not an artist myself but I do like to draw on occasion and would be up for an art trade if you fancy! I've mostly been on Gilgamesh these days but if you're ever interested in roleplaying, I'm happy to hop on Balmung or otherwise we can find a cozy spot in the forums. Have a nice stay, hope the community treats you really well!

I've wondered this myself! I've never found anything either way, though, so I've just assumed they were parallel to human lifespans. Hopefully anyone can provide some fresh information.

I don't have a Miqo'te character myself, but I can see the appeal of making a Keeper due to the lore & of making any Miqo'te for their ability to be just barely more androgynous than other races (second to Lalafell, considering). I'm from a moon-lovin' culture, like tribal structures, and also like matriarchies/women-led societies. The rest of the qualities about Miqo'te—other aesthetics, & seeker lore—are secondary to me, but I can see why anyone would be appealed to just based on different intersections in their own life.

Nice to meet you, friend! I have a character on Balmung and Gilgamesh each, but of course that isn't relevant if you're ever interested in forum roleplay. Feel free to send me a message in-game or here for any reason! I'm always excited to see people post their characters on the wiki, so hopefully you get around to that.

I would avoid putting a house in the same ward as them. Several of RareX's members have been griefing roleplayers on Balmung recently, several days in a row. I'm not usually much for mentioning stuff like this, but this is severe/recurring enough to validate a heads up, imo Doesn't surprise me much. What ward did they buy it in? First, I suppose? I love how the only ones who can afford a roleplayer's dream are the rp haters I do not understand the purpose of FC housing for non-RPers. ???

I'm really tentative to mention this as I don't know how interested people would be in this, but what if Balmung roleplayers and FCs worked together with one FC at a time? I know a lot of people might feel like it's problematic as it'd be an honour system driven manoeuvre, but it's something communities irl here do a lot—large families move into one home, then all save up so that they can split, etc, repeatedly, rinse, lather, repeat, all the while working together for the next monetary goal even after they've moved out—and it might make things feel as if they are moving faster. Otherwise, smaller groups could band together to do as much. Two FCs who want to be neighbors might consider pooling resources until they have enough for both neighbouring houses (a slower reversal of the above mentioned concept), or might work together to save up for one for both of them until they can save up enough for a second. I don't feel that I have a dog in the fight either way, I was just reminded of this useful practise while reading through this thread. Anyone who is worried about such methods should not participate in them.

Hi! Nice to meet you & welcome to the community. You seem like a swell person—if you've ever looking for some guidance (I'm fresh, too, but I'll try!), companionship, or roleplay, feel free to send me a message! Neither of the characters that I currently roleplay right now are archers so we won't have any ICly traumatising problems.

That isn't what Fenrir is saying. This is what Fenrir is saying: The content of this thread has travelled very far from the source.

I really like this idea! I'm a bit too timid and feel too new to the game to feel like I could pioneer it, but I'd be behind anyone who wanted to make it into something. I think the best motion would be to start as a linkshell and then, if that grows quite large, to create a free company.

I only just joined Gilgamesh, but this sounds like a pretty cool idea that I could second. The character I have probably wouldn't be suited to it, though. Edit: I only just saw that Xefjord made a new post about it—my mistake! Didn't mean to derail the original topic of the thread.

Seeking: characters to be involved in a character background

Great. When I catch you online I'll add to flist—having her witness him sparing someone would be a really cool addendum. -
Seeking: characters to be involved in a character background

I'll add your wiki to the original thread so that people see it even if they don't read all of the posts! -
Hello, all! I just polished the beginnings of a character on Gilgamesh, finally. Regardless of server, I'm looking for anyone who's interested in having some pre-existing character relationships. I'm open to anything at all: acquaintances, allies, enemies, family, friends, past rivals, romances, shopkeeps that saw him around frequently... anyone! His very concise wiki page is currently here: Time Tyrn Just about anything that I've written there is flexible to change, if it so suits you. I'd just rather he has a background with actually people in it instead of nameless third person pronouns. If you want to do some "flashback RP" to create the relationship (e.g. our characters meeting and becoming friends or otherwise), I'm up for that, too. I'd prefer it on the forums or in PM rather than in-game. I'm quite fresh to all of this (character building, FF, the game, roleplaying), so please send any critique, suggestions, etc my way so that I can improve and have a character worth interacting with! Thank you in advance. :cactuar: Edit: Xerys is looking for the same as far as his own character, please see his wiki here!: Xerys Phen

Additionally, any seemingly bizarre age difference can be explained away from the context of constant warring and the Calamity—low mortality rates & lots of orphans. However, I bet your daughter would really appreciate if you went with her idea, and I wouldn't feel disinclined to roleplay with any of y'all because of it, but I ofc can't speak for everyone. In conclusion: maybe your characters ICly act like it was a standard adoption, but there's a secret kept about her ~true origins~. It could lead to some small humorous scenes, e.g. commentary that she's just like X parent in a physical way (e.g. eyes) and then an outsider character confusedly responds, "that's some coincidence, considering she's adopted!"
-
I'm in love with the flux capacitor idea hahaha. At any rate, an option to consider if you're ever waffling about whether or not to utilise the time travel or not is adoption. A lot of characters on RPC have adoptive back stories, so it's just as likely for you and your wife's characters to be adoptive parents.

I second this idea! Great thinking.

Welcome to the forum! I'm in the process of creating a character for Gilgamesh so I'm looking into FCs and linkshells as well. I'll update you when I've got an in-game name and then you're free to send me a message either here or in game for some sweet, sweet roleplay.

Thanks for the critique! & Don't worry, I won't take this as some kind of invitation to tear at your wiki page for some reason. I know you mentioned that the potential for that existed among people earlier haha. & Thank you also for the profile image compliment. :V I agree that there ought to be more facial hair options, the one I have on Halpask is from/inspired by a cinematic Roegadyn IIRC. -I'm guessing you mean Combat → General! If you mean the first General then I haven't set any specs about it. I went ahead and removed the width contraints that had been there at default for the tables. Let me know if it looks better/worse. I also took out a couple long bullets. This makes me feel a bit like I need to edit the table below it so that it has similar formatting, what do you think? -changed wording from ", uncalled for" to "randomly" -You've got an eye for details! Added that colon. I like keeping the wiki as a central little hub of all of his information, especially considering I might send off my laptop soon for maintenance and who knows what I'll forget to take off of it for my own reference. I keep a note pad, myself. You're right! No down time images. I'll put some up on the need-to-draw list. I've had ideas in my head for as many, especially since he's such a fan of reading and I'll surely never get a screenshot of him doing as much. I think you're absolutely right about job level & class being not very relevant ICly. I had started him as a PGL and so have being a good PGL in his backstory, but when I rerolled him I made him start as lancer for the sake of starting in Gridania and now I'm in a rush to "catch up" to where I was. I suppose I put it there for my own self reference (I see myself in the future having not touched FFXIV in years and looking back nostalgically at my first character only to not remember what level he was in any of his classes!? a nightmare most certainly). I'm going to delete it for now until I can find a way to incorporate it better. Valid side question. I had not intended to thumbnail them; I had intended to create a window that could be clicked through. Need to get on that coding! Edit: I can't seem to find the coding for such a thing anywhere... if anyone knows where to look or what it is please let me know. Thank you very much!

Nice to meet you, mate! Out of curiosity, do you feel that heavy roleplayer implies you prefer forum while light might imply something in real-time like a chat client or the game itself? I've never qualified myself as a certain heft of roleplayer so I don't have experience with such weight terms, I'm just calibrating. Character development is a very cool focus, in my opinion. There are plenty of people around out to push plots but their characters don't change (not as if to imply that's worse, only different and multitudinous), so I'm excited to see what your writings look like. I feel like all of my roleplay experiences are so short term that I have pretty little character development experience myself and a lot to learn. My only character on Balmung so far is Halpask, who you can find out more about on the wiki. I'd encourage you to add a wiki for easy access, too! I like your character's surname, has a nice sound to it. We've got a bit to connect on in character because Halpask is military, himself! Feel free to send me a PM or a tell any time you'd like to RP. I prefer something like the forum to something like the game since then I can get around to it whenever it suits my convenience and fancy rather than having a sense of immediate time constraint. As far as Free Companies, as well as linkshells, you can find a bundle of the Balmung roleplaying ones here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15&filtertf_srvr=Balmung
