  1. More friends are good, Josikun! If you have Discord, please, by all means, add me there so we can chat easier ^^ I'm sure we could certainly get something going.
  2. Thanks, Warren. Hope things are still going well for you. ^^ And that sounds like it could be interesting, Deahfel. I look forward to chatting with you on Discord!
  3. I'm bad with this kind of thing so here goooooeeeeeees: I'm looking for stuff to get Andrea involved in. People, storylines, work, etc. RP has gotten a bit stagnant for me, and I'm looking for ways to freshen things up some. Bar/Tavern RP just doesn't do it. So, what's the deal with Andrea? Well, she's a big old Highlander, who only recently found out she was half-Garlean on her mother's side. She's great with chocobos, from having been raised on a farm for the majority of her life; she's recently taken up the axe in her efforts to become a knight, and has gotten steadily stronger with it; she's also been learning how to create magitek technology. As far as her personality goes, she's honest, headstrong, caring, and loyal to her friends. She has the desire, as a self-proclaimed knight, to defend those who can't defend themselves, and is constantly looking for ways to try and better herself. She's a very sociable person and enjoys meeting people, as well as helping where she can. http://imgur.com/P76ct2d If any of that caught your interest, either send me a PM, or add me on Discord and chat with me there. 5. Andrea couldn't have said how long she sat there against the gate, under the umbrella shielding her from the downpour around her, just watching the Wood Wailers practicing with their lances. Time flew for her, and before she knew it the Wailers were being dismissed and each went their own separate way, simply leaving her there with an active, racing mind, and a couple of intriguing thoughts bouncing around her head. She remained still for a moment longer before becoming restless. Deciding a small walk around the city might help her think, she pushed off of the fence and just let her feet carry her forward while her mind traveled elsewhere. The first thing Andrea thought of, was that she'd realized she hadn't seen anyone using those lances while on the back of a chocobo, and she couldn't figure out why. It seemed to her like something that would be incredibly effective, especially with a rider and bird trained well enough together. The second thought she had was that the lance didn't seem all that much different from a pitchfork. It was a long pole, with a metal head on one end. She'd had plenty of practice with them, using them to better clean the straw in chocobo stables. So, she figured, she was already at least somewhat familiar with the weapon. The third thought she had was that she could do both of those things. She could learn to use a lance, and she could learn to use it while riding her destrier. It would be something tailored to her, to encompass both her love for chocobos, and her lack of skill with other weapons. It would be a fighting style that she could make her own, instead of having to rely on what other people told her should be how she should work. These thoughts left her practically shaking with giddiness and excitement as she imagined the many different opportunities that would open up for her, if she could become acquainted enough with the weapon. No longer would she struggle with funds, or have to worry about being bullied into things she was scared to do, or went against her own moral standing. If she did well enough, she began to realize that she'd even be able to start traveling, and see much more of the world that was still foreign to her. Time sped by once more as she let her feet take her wherever they wished to go through the awe-inspiring city, until finally she found herself back at the lancer's guild, and the gate back to the ferry docks. She silently looked between the two directions, torn between simply going home, or heading inside to ask about joining. Finally deciding that nothing better was waiting for her back in the Lavender Beds, Andrea moved to enter the guild so she could join, a feeling of slight anxiousness and uncertainty hidden beneath her excitement to hear what all it would take for her to become like one of those soldiers she had seen an hour or two before.
  6. Late afternoon, Andrea finished the work she'd set out for herself: walk the chocobos the residents around the Lavender Beds that hired her had stabled, feed them, make sure the stable itself was still clean... After that, Andrea always found herself with more free time than she knew what to do with. Leaning against the last of the stables as she stepped out of them, she sighed and ran a hand through her hair, glancing around the area. It was all still mostly clean. There was nothing for her to do now. She wasn't of the mind to begin cleaning up where she wasn't sure she was welcome, so that left that out of the question. There wasn't anything for her to repair or build either. Since she knew really no one there, and she had no real place to call her own, she had no projects. It was take care of the chocobos and their stables, and that was it. Just sit on her haunches until she found something that needed doing, or someone came along to chat with her for a bit before going on their way again. There didn't seem to be anything of that sort today--she'd seen not a single person in the last few hours, and it wasn't typically busy in the few taverns she knew of that time of day anyway so that left her lost, mind drawing a blank on what she needed to do. At least until her thoughts wandered back to Gridania. Ever since she'd first 'stepped through' the aetheryte with the woman that had brought her through, she'd been entranced by the Shroud's capital city. Given it was her first time it was a fairly warranted reaction, but to Andrea, she'd never seen anything more beautiful. To the girl who'd seen nothing but the dreary browns and yellows of Thanalan her entire life, the vibrant green all around her was, at first, a shock, then breathtaking. When she had been lead through Gridania toward the Lavender Beds, she'd been able to do naught but look around in awe, humbled by the city's brilliance. It was much of the same when she arrived at the Lavender Beds, but she soon began to realize she'd not chosen to explore yet. There lay an entire city for her to take in, but she'd done little about visiting it once more. Deciding to change that, Andrea entered the home she had been allowed to stay at and went inside the room that had been given to her for rent, changing out her warmer-climated outfit for something that most in the Shroud might consider better for winter seasons and, remembering also to bring an umbrella to combat the apparently all-too-frequent precipitation, exited the home once more to take the journey back towards Gridania. Despite getting lost briefly a couple of times, Andrea managed to retrace the steps she'd taken to follow her guide through the Lavender Beds and eventually found her way to the ferryman who, after brief exchanges of pleasantries, quickly sent Andrea back across the lake to the city in question. The whole scene, just as everything else had been, was utterly beautiful to her. The lake was almost crystal clear and she felt like she could just reach out and touch the bottom, despite knowing full well she shouldn't even try. The trees on the edges of the lake were ancient but sturdy, and unlike anything Andrea had experienced before. Even as it began to rain--typical--and she opened up her umbrella to keep her dry, it only seemed to add to its beauty. The ripples of the water as the droplets came down hypnotized Andrea, holding her attention until the next thing she knew the ferryman was telling her they'd arrived. Blinking and looking up, Andrea breathlessly took in the view of what of the city she could see from there before nodding her thanks to the man and leaving the boat. Not knowing where to start, Andrea simply walked up the hill, head seeming to swivel every which way--to the brightly colored canopy covering the pier, to the gigantic tree she could see off in the distance, to the seemingly just as large building off to her right... This kept up until she reached the gate the hill lead to, where she saw a small group of green armor-clad soldiers participating in what looked like some sort of drill or exercise. Curious, Andrea took to leaning against the fencing as she watched the men and women swing and thrust their lances in a fake combat scenario, all while the rain continued to pour down around her.
  7. Tbh, I wish I could have AJ be an adventurer! But, for IC reasons (namely that she just wouldn't be able to handle herself in a fight against monsters like most adventurers can), that's currently not possible. Adventuring life would suit her just fine, but she lacks the combat skills to make it happen.
  8. Yeh, I'm not talking about telegraphs of attacks being wound up--or as Warren stated, a chimera casting a spell. I mean more along the lines of, say there's a Garlean airship up above, and it's firing things down below on a group of adventurers or some such. Unless they were constantly moving, it'd be pretty hard to get out of it without a few bumps and scrapes. And, I mean, I know it's a separation of game and story. I'm not saying there shouldn't be. I was just thinking about that whole mechanic in a different light--a light in which our characters might see things in that kind of situation, and how it'd affect events or their battles.
  9. So, recently, I was in a dungeon, going along on my usual merry way, stabbing stuff, Captain America'ing stuff, and dodging stuff... When I started thinking. Telegraphs. We as players see it as a tool, something to help us get to the end of a fight and closer to phat lewtz. But, all throughout the story, the characters are supposed to be seen as really amazing and whatnot, saviors of the world, yadda yadda. However, there are so many telegraphs out there that, when thinking about being in a situation like that, would be near impossible to actively dodge all of them and be as amazing as they're supposed to be. Example, in Dzemael, there's that one boss who summons those adds who throw rocks at you, and you have to move out of the telegraphs. Realistically, it would be extremely difficult in the thick of things to actually notice that, hey, there's a rock that's about to be thrown my way, especially when these extra monsters are at a different altitude. This is a mild example, of course, but I hope the example still sticks. Idk, I'm not really sure what point I'm trying to make--if any; perhaps I'm just throwing it out here because it was interesting to me. Plus, I thought of it particularly amusing when I imagined Hydaelyn being the one putting down the telegraphs and being like: (video not for those with sensitive ears. )

AJ has the appetite of a male Highlander, so she'd probably be around 7-8 burgerocity. Can 7.5 burgerocity be a thing?
  11. Sheesh, you typed all of that on a phone? Kudos to you, as well as +1 rep.

Beh, assuming the schedule is something that allows me to participate (as I work nights and two out of three days on the weekend), I'll toss AJ into the mix.
  13. Heh, thanks for all the responses guys. It's good to know I wasn't mistaken, and that the real group of people that matter don't see it as a problem
  14. So, not long ago, I was participating in some rather enjoyable RP with one other person, while the Quicksand was fairly empty. A couple of other people there, mostly AFK/just listening in as people are wont to do. Anyway, it eventually comes out ICly that Andrea isn't part of the adventurer's guild ICly. This is then followed by this: (sorry for text wall, btw, I just am AWFUL with summarization!) Andrea Jackson: "Heh, s'appreciated, but there's no way Ah'd be able to contact ya if anythin' -did- happen. An' no. Ah ain't new to the Adventurer's Guild, 'cause Ah ain't ever signed up." L_________: What... are you doing in here then? Y_________: "It is a public Inn, and tavern in general. All is welcome." Y_________: "I am no Adventurer myself." Andrea Jackson stares at the man for a moment as if he'd lost his mind before gesturing to _______. "What she said..." L_________: It is the adventurers guild... it has a bar, but it is the guild before. And the inn is only open to registered adventurers. L_________: Has the keeper mistaken you for guildmates? Y_________: "Untrue, sir. While I can understand your ignorance, The Quicksand is for all those who seek respite from Thanalan's harsh deserts." L_________: Errr.... you are mistaken. There is the coffer and coffin a short ways away for civilians. Y_________: "Are adventurers not Civlians? I see no Grand Company rank obvious upon your persons. And that aside, Grand Company ranks are not granted to all Adventurers, just as all Adventurers are not apart of a Grand Company." L_________: I am of the Yellow Serpents division of the Twin Adder. And no, Adventurers are not civilians. L________ holds his ear and speaks "Cousin, you around?" L________: How do you deal with civilians crowding the guild? Y________: "As you have mentioned you struggle with finding purpose, mine has been serving the citizens of Eoreza." She glances to L______. "Adventurers, or not." Andrea Jackson: "Funny, Ah'd think if anyone would have a problem with non-adventurers bein' here it would be Momodi..." Andrea Jackson: "Even then, Ah didn't think adventurers were this prejudiced against non-adventurers." G________: " 'Scuse me lasses, did I just overhear tha' yew two aren't apart of that guild?" K________ carefully watching the two ladies at the bar. "Ye know, most of adventurers don't have a prob'm with civs in their bar. As long as no trouble is cause, no one cares...." Andrea Jackson: "Heh, just confused as ta how Momodi would be against business of any kind, from any customer..." She then looks to G_______. "Ah ain't part o' the adventurer's guild, no." Andrea Jackson: "That's what Ah was thinkin'." Andrea Jackson: "Business is business, right?" Y________: ((because not everyone likes to be the choosen hero of Light.)) G________: "I don't think Momodi would like someone puttin' words into 'er mouth, sir." Y________: "Precisely. This is for any and all whom wish to rest from Thanalan. The Adventurers Guild portion is pretty exclusive." G________: ((That's totally not the point and you know it)) K________ looks at the tan clothed woman. "Aye, business is business." Andrea Jackson: "Wasn't the Quicksand a tavern long before Momodi took up bein' head of the Adventurer's Guild...?" L________: (Forcing the hand of an NPC who can't participate and disregarding the most important aspect of the setting wowie zowie oooooooo) Y________: ((I don't understand the point, I'm afraid. Not from an OOC perspective. It's a bit presumptuous to presume the only tavern of Ul'dah to be exclusive.)) K________ shakes his head. "I'm just saying how business is business an id be surprised to find one in Ul'dah who care more about who the gil comes from than the gil itself." Y________: ((if this is an OOC QQ drama, lemme know. I'll just go to bed. But I do not work as an Adventurer ICer. And not really in the mood to argue it.)) G________: ((It isn't the only tavern in uldah, it isn't even a tavern.)) L________: (The AG is the AG. If you pay attention in the storyline you'll notice that the privileges are granted, rather than inherent) L_______: (Established very very early on) Y_______: ((Very well, sorry to bother you.)) L_______: (Ooooooo biggem biggem scretch) L_______: (Also the Free Paladins hold 0 rank, position, or authority in the Sultansworn oops) Andrea Jackson: ((Greeeaaaattt, let's scare RP away just because people don't want to RP adventurers, and still participate in one of the most active RP spots.)) >>I then walked out, and received this tell, after which I blacklisted the player: G_______ >> ((Please don't try to play the victim when you're clearly in the wrong, I got character whos not an adventurer and I don't bring him around here.)) I'm not trying to stir up anything here but, like, what is the popular opinion towards this? Am I wrong in thinking what I did? Am I supposed to be barred from taking part in a popular RP hotspot like this one because AJ lacks the skill to be even a mildly successful adventurer? I bring this to you guys because I'm confused, and was hoping some light could be shed on this for me.
