Yep every city state has a starting set from 1-15 then it starts to become more "everyone on the same page". having seen all 3 openings and some quests in every city, any character could fit in those stories as long as you make the lore work. Nothing wrong with your character being stuck in Limsa Lominsa but based on what you've said with your lore and the lore of keepers of the moon.... Gridania would server you far better from a lore standpoint but you also end up locked in as a CNJ, LNC, ARC My character is a Hyur whom is from the outskirts of Gridania and her family history is tied to the Archer's guild and Twin Adders... so from a character point she is very dedicated to Gridania and the Twin Adders... Archer/Bard. The game is young, your character can be ANYTHING in the end; but you only have one storyline. Go with what you feel is right / your heart is telling you. You can always roll an arcanist later ^^ or after one of the Guild's allows you to (they actually write into the lore when you get the armory unlocked that you have permission to explore other classes, but you should not forget your roots)

Hiyas - newbie saying hello and seeking advice
Fiona Swift replied to Miseria's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome to the forums!!! As for the issues, I wouldn't worry. Any MMO ends up with Queue issues and high ping /lag at launch and during stress tests. Error 3102 and 90000 were by products of this and hopefully square enix has figured out how to deal with it in a timely manor if they even do show up again. If you eliminate the "load" issues , FF14 is going to launch in a shape that very few MMOs ever launch in. It feels polished, has very few bugs and feels like a game which has had over a year of updates already put into it (which it has, considering this is a rebirth of the original that came out a few years ago) Throw a few patches in, upgrade the server capabilities for each Shard + maybe throw in 1 or 2 extra JP and NA/EU shards you probably won't have nearly the issue you had during open beta. The worst case that happens is the early access ends up a mess; but it does for every MMO. SW:ToR was just about unplayable for 2 weeks for many people due to server problems and load People forget that WoW when it launched was unplayble for nearly a month. Servers would crash easily, huge queue times, corrupt patches etc. GW2 had lots of issues loading you between zones (you would get stuck on loading screens and get something similar to Error 3102 but GW2 has an AFK time out so after 10mins you would be able to log back in) ; ontop of that the lv 50+ content zones in GW2 had been untested and were virtually unplayable on some servers + many skill points and NPCs would bug out and be unusable for days which locked your progress AION at launch couldn't handle high congestion, and when you would enter congested areas the client would crash you out; it made PvP and many PvE hubs unplayable Diablo 3 launch in a nutshell ... (does contain foul language aka.. curses) So don't worry.... it will be fine. All MMOs and "high player count" games have issues at first. Just push through it and you'll be glad you did since you were one of the originals who survived the initial waves of people rage quitting. -
Booo!! then my theory goes out the window... :frustrated: Ehh I just hope the team gets things together. I don't want bad press for the game. Yoshi-P has worked really hard to revive the game and I rather see him get showered with love than people throwing stuff at him From what I played, this game is just amazing. The weather system seemed to be working fantastic this time around; lightning storms, wind, rain, dust storms. I loved how one region has a thunder storm going on(dry storm) and the zones next to it all have this overcast look with wind because there is a storm coming Makes wanting to just run around so much better

well with the numbers the beta pulled I'm not surprised they had server issues. I was fortunate the server reset got me back in game so I could log off in a normal spot + make sure I didn't have the 90000 bug ( I was able to do Leve quests and queue for dungeons so I'm okay ) plus I did a few more bits of testing while I could. As for the #'s Supposedly over 150,000 log-ons at once which is a new record; and the number going around is over 4.5 million beta testers. There wasn't enough servers even with the additional JP and NA/EU servers. 3102 was probably due to massive server overload + the game lacking an AFK time out. odds are they are going to patch a few things + do some serious server upgrades to get those ping times down and server loads in check. 90000 is a different story and hopefully at launch everyone will be out of error 90000; It probably has to do with the server load as well, just wasn't as easy as "restarting the server" They might want to put in some kind of emergency "abandon" button which drops any activity you are in. Basically you can hit this button and after 30 seconds it force quits any "instanced" event you are in... be it a Duty, leve, dungeon etc. In short... it hard boots you back to your "bound(return)" point with all your flags set back to default.

(Balmung) Surprise RP Gathering (08/18/13)

Sorry I couldn't make it, was stuck in 3102 land with a bunch of FC members and some friends. I hope everyone had fun though! -
Yeah that was kind of strange. I saw that in a few places. It looks more like an oversight though since many fates I took part in were quite balanced and a lot of fun! The fates early on though seemed a tad strange , like there is a lv 34 fate which spawns "barely" past a level 10 questing area. Might want to nudge that fate down the path just a bit more to avoid people randomly walking into a lv 30+ mob

they acknowledged it in a twitter post made around 21 hours ago. However they asked that you go to the beta forums and input character name and server and they will see what they can do. People have been doing that since around 6pm on day 1 , and the twitter response went up around 3pm yesterday. Even today as I type this "zero" people have had it fixed. In fact their beta forums don't even work anymore because of the volume of people reporting the problem. From how it looks, they are just going to chug through the final day and leave 3102 as is and everyone will be fine once the servers go up on the 24th again. Problem is once you get load like this 3102 will resurface if they don't 'figure out a fix. From what people are saying here and there... v1.0 had this exact problem and it never was fixed. You had to submit a ticket and wait for them to log you off manually.

got locked out twice, first time I managed to salvage it but now I'm permanently stuck in 3102. I don't mind it really as this is a stress test, but it just shocks me how Square Enix really has no actual form of communication, nor have they bothered to reset servers. They rather just leave a decent % of testers stuck in 3102 than get them back in game to stress test more. Baffles me and this actually is my first beta test where the company test has made almost no effort to resolve log-in issues. Ontop of that the beta forums to report issues has been down for at least 50% of the test ; so exactly how are we even going to report issues? Either Square Enix was seriously thrown for a loop by the amount of people testing and posting (how? They knew the numbers since August 2nd and had 2 weeks to plan... ) or they just flat out didn't do much of anything in that time and under-estimated almost everything. Funny thing is, there is an easy fix for this problem that blows my mind why SE has not done this. It is called an AFK time out you know... something most MMOs have had since ye olde days , just like the ability to hide/show quests  It is what it is though; Guess we shall find out how good Square Enix is at dealing with server load come early access, and fixing problems like this. PS: At least we got "Confirmation" about you know what from this error  That's right Gabe, we're onto you!

I'm loving the game of course. Has a lot of potential and is just a blast to run around and explore in. Only issue I have is the 3102 which has now locked me out, locked two of my friends out It also locked out a few FC members, and it is just rampant on the forums (which now have been shut down for almost 12 hours). The game is awesome, but Square Enix needs to learn customer service. Some people have been stuck with error 3102 since just hours into the test and are now locked out of testing and Square Enix has remained silent for almost everything They are aware of the issue but last i looked it was at nearly 700 pages for people with Error 3102 just in the English section of the forums alone. hard to stress test a game when a nice % of testers are locked out. Outside of that; the game is awesome! Voice acting isn't bad for English, however the Japanese is better I feel.
-
this is because the Japanese preorder codes are 20 characters the North American code is 18th characters... If you go to the beta registration site provided by that link it is actually the Japanese one converted to English It threw off a lot of people early on until people realized it was just Square Enix doing translation

there is a lot of character locks going on with many servers . I suspect square-enix is making room for the new people coming on the 17th before they up the player count on the servers... if not... and these servers are already semi full.... god help them at launch. :bouncy:
-
They are just slowly increasing the server load capacity. If the server is full or near cap during a beta test god help the server on launch day LOL When Balmung went down it had a queue once it came back up for about 2-3 minutes to ease the server back into normal operation. What would Square do if tomorrow when the Open Beta people show up, every server hits max capacity. Do they celebrate? Or go into panic mode trying to slap together more servers ASAP

I've been running about , did not notice anyone but then again Gridania is a sea of people. Either it is empty, or just a huge wall of people depending on where you go. Also when the server crashed that was pretty funny. Once it went back up I had to wait in a queue for about 30 seconds did anyone else notice they took out the ability to show/hide quests in your journal log. Been trying to figure out if it is a bug, or they removed the feature since in Phase 3 you could just click a box next to the quest to toggle it visible or not visible on the HUD

here's some info videos done by Mr. Happy which might help Character Stats and what they do Racial Stat differences From what I understand, stats really don't make a huge difference but it will help add slight improvements which give you a possible edge when it comes to balanced fights. Sounsyy , in my opinion, has almost the same allocation setup that I would use

Thanks as well, even I had it wrong for my Wiki; thinking it was 1577. I get the whole 5th and 6th etc Era's now. Makes sense though. While it is 1577 it could be determined as something like 1577 of the Umbral eras or 5th year of the 7th Umbral era
